USA Today Notices 'Shiksa' Fracas But Misses the Point

Missing the point entirely, USA Today's Faith & Reason blog takes note of the Toronto "shiksa" kerfuffle. The blog comments, accurately enough, that "Calling 'shiksa' a 'hate crime' is no Jewish joke to some"--i.e. to the Ceej:
The Canadian Jewish Congress however, has written to the police complaining that the 2009 "shiksa incident, classified as "mischief,"" should not be dignified with a listing as a hate crime category.
However, by focusing exclusively on the effervescent silliness of it all (and, hey, who can really blame her?), the blogger loses sight of the real story and its larger meaning. The real story is that "shiksa" is only one of several groups ("Nazis" being another) that has been accorded official victim status, which, in airline terms, is like being bumped up from "coach" to "first class." And that means that the whole Canadian "victim group"/"hate crime" thing, as the Ceej chief has rightly and insightfully observed, is now too ridiculous for words.
