And Then I Turned Off the Radio

John Oakley is seriously entertaining the question of whether Canadian judges should give those who commit "honour" killings a break because they have different "cultural practices" and may not be aware of our norms and laws; defence attorney Lawrence Ben-Eliezer thinks judges should take these differences into consideration because we have "multiculturalism". (Meanwhile, by a huge margain, a poll on the Oakley site disagrees with B-E.)

  2. In fact, "the feminists" wouldn't dare pile on him, because, P.C.-befuddled souls that they are, they've decided that any bad stuff that happens to their Muslim sisters is okey-dokey since it's part of their "culture," and is therefore beyond reproach. In that way, their thinking isn't all that dissimilar to Aqsa's father and brother.

  3. I think multiculturalism should be designated a hate crime.

  4. Me also. These idiots are living in opposite land.

Honor killings should be viewed as an especially heinous affront to our Canadian values and compassionately generous immigration system.

Perpetrators should receive automatic maximum sentences.

There are no "mitigating circumstances" for strangling or stabbing or drowning your own daughters.

  5. What these judges missed is that Aqsa's mother - in the 'Star' article, is quoted as saying that when a daughter shames a family, they 'only' have TWO options: to kill her or to TURN HER OUT!!!

She openly admits that kicking the daughter out is just as 'culturally acceptable' to this family as murdering Aqsa was....

What I mean is: NO - there MUST NOT be fewer protections for our young women, just because their parents hold on to freaky 'cultural practices'. BUT - even for those soft-brained enough to think so, in this case, it could not possibly apply: the father had a perfectly acceptable course of action open to him according to 'his culture' which did NOT involve harming Aqsa in any way, shape or form.

'His culture' says he would have redeemed himself if he had simply kicked her out!!!

No sentence is harsh enough for this father-and-son murderers!

  6. I don't think so Tim,

because they will fear someone will call them racist if they say it's bad for womens rights to kill women.

did you forget to turn off the /sarc tag?

  7. Sharia sharpened the knife; the sharia-besotted men conspired to murder the sharia-balking girl, and one of them deployed the weapon; multiculturalism aided and abetted the crime.

  8. I guess one could just cross one's fingers (if that isn't too Christian...) when repeating"

"I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen."

Or is this another example of willful ignorance parading as culture?

Say, do you think we'll ever have a Human Responsibilities Commission and Tribunal?
