The tone of this paragraph seems intended to dismiss the results of the survey by besmirching the professionalism of Nanos Research while mocking our efforts to determine what the public wants in a national museum that taxpayers are being called upon to sustain, in perpetuity.Stand back because dude's head is going to 'splode when he finds out that the taxpayers are going to have to pony up for an entire museum devoted to the Holocaust.
You have reported that 60.3 per cent of Canadians, men and women of all ages, from all regions and of all political persuasions, rejected (in the Nanos poll) the notion of a gallery being set aside permanently to cover just one genocide. Yet the editorial questions why we did not specifically reference the Holocaust as such a gallery's subject.
The reason we did not was simply because, as stated above, the association's position has always been, and remains, that no one community's suffering, however great, should be elevated above all others in a national museum funded by all taxpayers, which includes the Holodomor.

When Ethnicities Collide
The head of the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association responds to the Winnipeg Free Press editorial criticizing its survey of Canadians' views re "genocide equity":
Interesting link to the Ceej site. I am a bit confused though because I don't see any reference to a museum, rather it seems a monument to the Holocaust is beig erected.

ReplyDeleteWho could have imagined that his "monument" was actually an edifice?
Sorry I don't follow. Your link leads to a twitter account that also talks about a monument. I don't see museum anywhere.
ReplyDelete"CJC is thrilled that Bill C-442, An Act to Establish a National Holocaust Museum, has been enacted into law by receiving Royal Assent this morning."

The press release I read on their site says nothing about a museum. Check for yourself

"Canadian Jewish Congress Delighted at Royal Assent for Holocaust Monument Bill
TORONTO—Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) is thrilled that Bill C-442, An Act to Establish a National Holocaust Monument, has been enacted into law by receiving Royal Assent this morning. Canada is virtually alone among western countries not to have a national monument to the Holocaust. This anomaly will now be rectified."
The Ceej created the confusion, not me.
ReplyDeletePerhaps so but the only press release I have seen from CJC is on their site and it is far from confusing. No mention whatsoever of museums.
