From the way he looked and sounded when he gave what turned out to be his farewell speech, I didn't think he was going to make it. Still, today's news comes as a shock.

Update: It's too bad he died. Really. He was much too young. That said, the media is already going overboard in its lugubrious Princess Di-ification of the man in a way that is really quite unbearable.
Update: Despite the fact that Jack shared the "Palestine"-loving proclivities of his ilk, imbecilic Official Jewry has jumped on the lugubrious bandwagon by announcing it will fund a "Jack Layton Scholarship for Social Justice" (h/t BCF). Something we Jews need like, well, a hole in the head.
