Have You Heard About the Khomeinist Who May Have Walked into a Wahhabist Trap?

No? Neither have I. That's because our media are still completely flumoxed as to why a nice imam from Edmonton would have been waylaid during Hajj by Wahhabi religious police. No need to dig now, however, since he's been released from jail due in part to the intercession of a London-based outfit called the Islamic Human Rights Commission. And since, going strictly by the name, that must be a ripping organization doing all sorts of wonderful human-rightsy things, no need to ask any questions about what it's up to, right? So when a cursory Google search turns up a piece in the Telegraph informing us that
The IHRC is a Khomeinist group. It campaigns for imprisoned extremists such as the "Blind Sheikh", Omar Abdel Rahman, currently serving a life sentence in the US for his part in the first blowing-up of the World Trade Centre in 1993.
The IHRC's chairman, Massoud Shadjareh criticised the prosecution of Abu Hamza in 2006, claiming that the conviction created "an environment that can only further alienate the Muslim community". The IHRC also organises the annual al-Quds day parade in London – an event instituted by that well-known champion of human rights, Ayatollah Khomeini.
I suppose it behoves us to ignore it. In the name of puppies and bunnies and rainbows and unicorns and all the other cuddly things that "human rights" means, I mean.
