"Son" on the Money Re the Root Cause of Arab Rejectionism

There's some controversty surrounding Mosab Hassan Yousef, a.k.a. "Son of Hamas." Walid Shoebat insists he is not what he seems, and is not to be trusted, but these words, quoted in the Globe and Mail (Yousef spoke at a Jewish function in Toronto last night), sound pretty kosher to me:

The issue, he stresses, is not merely radical Islam, of the kind practised and preached by al-Qaeda, Salafists, jihadists, the Muslim Brotherhood or hard-line factions in more than a dozen Arab and Muslim states. The issue is Islam itself.

“The root of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict does not lie in security or politics,” he has said. “It is a war between two gods, two religions. The Koran,” he maintains, “applies a death sentence to anyone who does not believe in Islam. This is not the idea of a radical Muslim. This is the ideology of the God of Islam himself.”

In his lecture, Mr. Youssef expanded on these themes. He said it makes no sense for Western nations to be embracing the Muslim Brotherhood as a responsible actor in the unfolding drama of the Arab world’s upheaval and to simultaneously outlaw Hamas as a terrorist organization.

“Hamas is the legal daughter of the Muslim Brotherhood. They share the same ideology and the same culture of shame, guilt and intimidation.”

I don't know what he's saying in Arabic, but his English stuff seems totally on the ball.
