TLF Misjudges the ObamaCare Ruling
NYT sage Thomas L. Friedman commends Chief Justice Roberts for "taking one for the country":
IN my mind, there are two lessons from the Supreme Court’s 5-to-4 decision to support President Obama’s health care plan: 1) how starved the country is for leadership that puts the nation’s interest before partisan politics, which is exactly what Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. did; and 2) the virtue of audacity in politics and thinking big.
In my mind, the job was to rule on ObamaCare's constitutionality, not to finesse its patent non-constitutionality by rebranding it as something else. As for "audacity and thinking big," after four years of Obamaudacity plummetting the nation into a hole it may never dig out of, the concept has rather lost its charm.
