"A Cartoonist Should, Above All, Provoke a Reaction"

I'm sure that PEN Canada scheduled its co-sponsorship of a screening of the documentary Cartoonists: Foot Soldiers of Democracy way before one of its most revered members, novelist Michael Ondaatje, decided to boycott a PEN event that will be honouring the provocative--and now dead--'toonists of Charlie Hebdo. You must admit, though, that in light of the snub, PEN Canada's timing here is serendipitous--and impeccable.
