Oddly Enough, It Does Not Taste Like Chicken

This is rather stomach-turning:
As part of his research in preparing to write Eat Me: A natural and unnatural history of cannibalism, the zoologist Bill Schutt flew to Texas to the home of Claire Rembis, a provider of placenta-related services. There, Rembis’s husband William took a bag from the family freezer, removed his wife’s placenta from it, and cooked up strips of the organ along with vegetables and beef stock. Tucking into this dish – placenta osso buco – Schutt encountered a consistency like veal and a “strong but not overpowering flavour”.
