If you're an al Qaeda member from Pakistan who's simpatico with jihad and who'd like to see the infidel get his comeuppance once and for all, you'll be able to stay in the U.K. because to send you back might compromise your "safety." But if you're a Lesbian actress from Tehran who is not a jihadi, who poses no threat to society, and who is facing certain death if forced to return to Iran, British authorties evince not a scintilla of concern for your safety.
Not that there's a pernicious double standard or anything.
