Two Vastly Different Explanations Re the Coinage of the Term "Islamophobia" (and Never the Twain Shall Meet)

First, the Ontario "Human Rights" Commissions':
In contemporary usage, the term “Islamophobia” dates from the 1990s. The British Runnymede Report of 1997, titled Islamophobia: A Challenge for Us All, defined Islamophobia as “the dread, hatred, hostility towards Islam and Muslims perpetrated by a series of closed views that imply and attribute negative and derogatory stereotypes and beliefs to Muslims” (Kalin, 2011, p. 8). After 9/11, the term was used in a 2002 report published by the European Monitoring Centre on Xenophobia and Racism (EUMC), documenting incidents of violence and discrimination against Muslims in Europe (Cesari, 2011, p. 21). Although contested, the word has come to refer to both anti-Muslim (group of people) and anti-Islam (the religion) sentiments. These may overlap with racism, xenophobia, anti-religious and anti-immigrant views as well (Cesari, 2011, p. 24). Islamophobia does not stem only from the events of 9/11, but is part of the pre-existing ways in which Muslims are perceived as “different” from the larger society.
Second, Discover the Networks':
The term “Islamophobia” was invented and promoted in the early 1990s by the International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT), a front group of the Muslim Brotherhood. Former IIIT member Abdur-Rahman Muhammad -- who was with that organization when the word was formally created, and who has since rejected IIIT's ideology -- now reveals the original intent behind the concept of Islamophobia: “This loathsome term is nothing more than a thought-terminating cliche conceived in the bowels of Muslim think tanks for the purpose of beating down critics.” In short, in its very origins, “Islamophobia” was a term designed as a weapon to advance a totalitarian cause by stigmatizing critics and silencing them.

This plan was an outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood's "General Strategic Goal for North America," by which the organization aimed to wage "a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands ... so that ... God's religion [Islam] is made victorious over all other religions." To implement this plan, the Brotherhood enlisted the help of 29 likeminded "organizations of our friends" (one of which was IIIT), whose task would be to depict themselves as civil-rights groups speaking out on behalf of a Muslim American population that was allegedly besieged by outsiders who harbored an illogical, unfounded fear of them -- i.e., by a society replete with "Islamophobia."

Although the term was coined in the early 1990s, “Islamophobia” did not become the focus of an active Brotherhood campaign until after 9/11. Since that time, Islamist lobby organizations (including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR) and Muslim civil-rights activists have regularly accused the American people, American institutions, law-enforcement authorities, and the U.S. government of harboring a deep and potentially violent prejudice against Muslims. The accusers charge that as a result of this "Islamophobia," Muslims are disproportionately targeted by perpetrators of hate crimes and acts of discrimination.

But FBI data on hate crimes show that the foregoing accusers are wholly incorrect. The incidence of anti-Muslim abuses nationwide has actually declined since September 2001...
See what I mean about existing in alternate realities?

Update: Pat Condell has a few thoughts on the subject.

If You Look at the World Through Rose Coloured Glasses, You May Not Notice All the Blood That's Being Splattered by Jihadis

E'er determined to espy a silver lining in the darkest of clouds, Rabbi Donniel Hartman, an Israeli whose guru status rivals that of Deepak Chopra in terms of the ardency of his acolytes, sees something positive coming out of the recent Gaza kerfuffle. No, not the efficacy of Israel's Iron Dome, which managed to protect Israelis from up to 90 per cent of incoming missile fire from Hamas. Donniel detects something far more heartening--Bibi's supposed change of heart such that his thinking more or less mirrors, well, Donniel's:
For some, the central question surrounding Operation Pillar of Defense is who won, whose truth prevailed. For me, the central question is what have we learned, and what can we adopt as we construct our future foreign policy. Before the operation, Israel's policy and public assumptions were founded on a number of beliefs and "truths": we are alone and can count only on ourselves, the world is against us and public relations is useless in an anti-Semitic universe, in the Middle East the lingua franca is power and compromise is weakness, for all of Israel's challenges a solution can be found in the use of power, fear must guide our policy while hope is naive, and once Islam enters into the equation the conversation is over, (sic)
All of the above have dominated Israel's discourse, both when it comes to a nuclear Iran, as well as with the stalled peace process with the Palestinians. None of the above, however, shaped Israel's actions in Operation Pillar of Defense. Quite to the contrary, Israel tried out a new set of assumptions and was surprised by their efficacy. It refrained from an extensive ground campaign, not only because it believed that such an operation would not result in additional gains, but also because it would undermine the opportunities made possible by this new set of assumptions.
What have we learned? First, we are not alone. When our actions are grounded on a strong moral foundation and our response commensurate to our legitimate rights, there are many who are willing to stand on our side and by our side. Second, in such a reality public relations are beneficial, but PR can never be a substitute for good policy. Third, Israel's world is most secure when it works in close cooperation with the United States administration (and not merely the Congress), and when it does so, new avenues become possible.
"We are not alone"--true enough, Donny. Why, just yesterday a whopping nine--count 'em--nine countries were so impressed by Israel's "strong moral foundation/response commensurate to our legitimate rights" that they voted against Mahmoud Abbas's PLO/PA at the UN.

And while it's nice to have Micronesia and the Marshall Islands (also Canada and the U.S.) on our side, it seems that the rest of humanity, 138 nations, including the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, the UN's largest voting bloc, decided to go with the guy who wants to end Israel's occupation--of Israel. For starters, though, he hopes to soon see the flag of Palestine "wave" in East Jerusalem.

Can't hardly wait for that!

I would say that that has a lot to do with might making right at the UN, and the fact that Islam more or less steers the conversation there. But since, clearly, Donniel and me dwell in alternate realities (and since in his, Islam/jihad/sharia have next to no meaning or impact), there's little point in telling him that his worldview is seriously askew due to a dangerous--and dangerously blinkered--"social justice" Utopianism.

Mahmoud "Maria" Abbas Sings a Song From "West Bank Story"

I feel lucky,
Oh, so lucky.
I feel lucky, and plucky and wise.
And it's ducky
That the world has fallen for my lies.
I feel puissant,
Oh, so puissant.
It's quite recent
How puissant
I feel.
And so lucky
That an end to occupation's real.
See the white-haired bloke in that mirror there?
Who can than well-coiffured man be?
Such a perfect time,
Such a perfect plan,
Such a perfect scam,
Such a perfect me!
I feel giddy,
Oh, so giddy,
Feel like grinning;
I'm winning again!
For I got approbation at the UN!

R.I.P. Free Speech on Campus

Michael Barone nails it when he says that post-secondary school
institutions that once prided themselves as arenas for the free exchange of ideas — and still advertise themselves as such — have become the least free part of our society.
The least free part of our society, eh? Obviously, Barone isn't familiar with Canada's "human rights" system. ;)
The briefest guide ever?

Now, That's Using Your Noodle!

The following correction is appended to a hagiographic NYT article about Yoko Ono (who is apparently the height of cool these days, and who, with her son Sean, has started an anti-fracking organization because, says Yoko, "Basically, if we don’t do something about it, we’re all going to die"):
Correction: November 29, 2012

An earlier version of this article misspelled Doreen Remen’s surname. It is Doreen Remen, not Ramen.
It could've been worse. They could have wrongly called her Doreen Semen.

It's "Remen," not "ramen"

Homage to (a Scatalogical) Catalonia--Defecating Figurines

Next time someone tells you that Europeans are so much classier and more sophisticated than we rubes here in North America, send 'em this link from a French website:
OUR Spanish neighbours have given an irreverent twist to French politics – with President Hollande proving one of the most popular “caganer” (“crapper”) santon crib figures there this year.

According to www.caganer.com, which specialises in the figures, they have been made in Catalonia (north-east Spain) since the 18th century. The area shares the santon tradition with Provence, but the bare-backsided caganer is a Catalan speciality.

The site says it used to be believed that “the caganer’s fertile deposits will make the soil of the crib rich and productive for the coming year” and putting one in the crib would bring “luck and happiness”.

A spokesman said Hollande was new for this year and was selling well.

“The caganers are most popular in Catalonia and it’s become a habit to have them during Christmas Eve as a sign of good luck – it means the Earth is going to grow and the seeds will do well and the weather will be good. It’s a very positive thing.”

Other options include such figures as Carla Bruni, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, the Pope and a souvenir “Royal Wedding” collection of Kate and William and a guardsman in a bearskin.
What, no James Caganer? (I loved him in Yankee Doodle Dandy.)

The Worm Turns

Shine, little Yasser, like a glow worm.
Their conclusions re your death are firm.
They'll say your bones have loads of polonium
As they recite another encomium.
Who did you in? They'll claims it's Zion.
Injected you while hardly tryin'.
You will go down in infamy
And harm Jews posthumously.

Due Process Under Sharia Law: Egypt Sentences "Innoncence of Muslims" Director to Death

Granted, the U.S. prez stood up at the U.N. and proclaimed that the future does not belong to those who "slander" Islam, and, granted, he gave that infamous "Cairo" address that set the so-called Arab Spring in motion. But not even his nibs BHO would allow Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood-helmed Egypt to hand down sharia-grounded death sentences to American citizens, would he?

Would he?

Morsi a "Pharaoh"? That's Just Silly Jahilyya

I keep reading the "p" word in connection with Egyptian rapper DJ Mo Morsi, but given his sharia proclivities, surely he's more sultan/wannabe-caliph, no?

An Obvious Case of Pathological Projection

Iran's UN ambassador, a rather testy bloke, blasts Canada for being "racist."

This from a rep for a bunch of religious thugs who long to finish what Hitler started, Jew-wise.

It would be funny if it weren't so sick-making.

Song for an Exhumation

Well, hello, Yasser.
Down below, Yasser.
It's so nuts of them to dig you up today.
You're lookin' dead, Yasser,
Like they said, Yasser,
You're still crowin',
You're still glowin',
You're still gamma ray'd.
I hear the hate surgin'
And your peeps urgin'
Ev'ryone to blame the Jooos for your demise.
Lies.
It's a wrap, Yasser.
Golly, they're full of crap, Yasser.
Yasser, it's clear you're dead and gone.
Yasser, your hate will carry on.
Yasser, you are their sin qua non,
You con.

Yet Another Foreign Policy "Success" (in the Benghazi Sense) For All-Seeing, All-Knowing Barack O.

Way to go, Barry! Looks like your legacy is assured:
Sudanese strongman Omar al-Bashir has launched aerial bombardments with increased frequency in the oil-rich Nuba Mountains, where Muslims and Christians alike are being targeted with “tremendous” force, experts told FoxNews.com.
The attacks led by al-Bashir, who remains wanted for genocide by the International Criminal Court, have reached their highest levels in the past two months since the conflict began in June 2011. And while it remains very difficult to estimate how many people have died, more than 300,000 people of indigenous ethnic groups known collectively as the Nuba peoples have been displaced in South Kordofan, a province of Sudan, according to Ryan Boyette, a former American aid worker who lives in the region.
“What we’re seeing here is the Sudan forces are getting weak, the morale is down, so they’re doing more bombing,” Boyette told FoxNews.com. “They are trying to demoralize the people within the region by just doing a tremendous amount of bombing.”
Boyette — who runs Nuba Reports, a website dedicated to covering conflict in the Nuba Mountains — said bombing in the region by the Sudanese regime had decreased slightly when South Sudan suspended oil production in January after it accused Sudan of stealing its crude. Sudan, for its part, said it was taking the oil for unpaid transport fees.
“The United States pushed very hard for the north and south to let the oil flow again,” Boyette said. “Immediately after that agreement was signed, we started to see a massive amount of bombing. So now that they’re financially backed and able to back up their operations, I think we’ll see these bombings continue. I don’t see any reason why they’d let up.”...
Me neither. But don't blame al-Bashir, a.k.a. the Butcher of Khartoum. I hear his nose is majorly out of joint because of a youtube trailer insulting Mo the pro.

Canadian (Male) Muslims Launch "White Ribbon Campaign" to Raise Awareness About/Help Prevent Violence Against Muslim Chicks

Of course, since they seem loath to admit that Islamic doctrines are often implicated in "honour" crimes (see these no-Islam-here-move-along-now-people "articles" posted on the campaign's website), they've got their work cut out for them.

Beware of Islamists Bearing Platefuls of Tasty Samosas

It's so easy to bamboozle Jews via the "interfaith" scam.

Bad Bad Robbie Ford

In the south side of Toronto,
Lives a man that's been deplored.
And if it's there you steer,
You know you're bound to hear
'Bout a man name of Robbie Ford.

You know Rob was quite corpulent,
And he's a true right-winger, too.
You put the two together
He would face bad weather
No matter what that man would do.

And he's bad, bad Robbie Ford.
Fat right-winger bien pensants deplored.
Wanted so to make him bleed.
Got a judge to do the deed.

Now, Robbie got in trouble.
He took some moolah for his team.
And he allowed his haters
For to seal his fate
By comin' up with a crafty scheme.

Well, they cast their eyes upon him,
And did their best to bring him low.
Robbie Ford learned a lesson 'bout a-messin'
With those who wanted him to go.

Well, he's bad, bad Robbie Ford.
Fat right-winger the NOW crowd deplored.
Wanted so to make him bleed.
And got a judge to do the deed.
Wanted so to make him bleed.
They got a judge to do the deed.

Can't Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Eh?

Well, it's finally here. The day when Yasser Arafat's mouldering remains are exhumed so Arabs can try to blame Israelis for killing him via their nefarious Zionist radiation scheme. Or something like that. Who thinks that even if they find nuthin', they'll still claim the Jooos done him in? (Speaking strictly from the standpoint of cui bono--who stood to gain the most from his demise--I'd suggest they take a gander at Suha, his very merry widow, now kicking up her heels in Paree as the beneficiary of an immense inheritence.) Oddly enough, I feel a song coming on...

Arafathead's body ain't a-mould'ring in its grave.
Arafathead's body ain't a-mould'ring in its grave.
Arafathead's body ain't a-mould'ring in its grave.
They've dug the sucker up.

Gory, gory, same old story.
Gory, gory, same old story.
Gory, gory, same old story:
Let's go and blame the Jooos!...

How's That Extreme Social Engineering/Gender Blurring Working Out for You, Sweden?

As Thomas Pascoe writes in the Telegraph, not so well, really, especially for the chicks:
The point is not that the Swedish experiment of treating women as men has been a failure, but that it has succeeded. As Natasha Walter argued persuasively in Living Dolls, the result of stripping women of their social roles as mothers has not been the development of a new balance in society which still respects women, but rather a sexual nihilism with which most women are instinctively uncomfortable. When all other points of differentiation are stripped away, what is left between the sexes is purely physical. As a result, we see a rise of a tits-and-ass culture that emphasises the physical because there is nothing else left. Women should have no doors barred to them in life, but a relentless focus on image does them no favours.
You mean to say that blurring gender lines has had the effect of turning chicks into sex objects?

Rather ironic--and instructive--that, no?

Nitwit Elizabeth May Bemoans Canada's Pariah Status for Nixing Kyoto

What a ninny!:
Of all the delegations in the room in Doha, the Canadians adopt the lowest profile. Some question whether they should be there at all: The country's first and only Green party MP, Elizabeth May, said: "Having Canada in the room negotiating to weaken the second Kyoto, when we have already signalled that not only will we not be participating in taking on new targets in the second period but we're legally withdrawn from the protocol, should make us pariahs."

"I can't imagine how anybody would want us in the room."...
That's the difference between Lizzie May and me. She's mortified by Canada's pariah status while I cheer it for being brave, intelligent, principled and economically sound.

UNRWA Underwrites the Jihad--With Israel's Tacit Approval

Time to change its name to the United Nations Welfare Agency for Hamas (UNWAH) or, alternatively, to get rid of it altogether, no?:
The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has transferred $13 million in cash to Gaza in order to pay its employees, Kol Yisrael radio reported on Sunday. According to the report, the money was transferred with Israel’s approval.
The approval to transfer the money was given after a security check, noted Kol Yisrael, but sources familiar with the matter expressed concern that Hamas will use the money to finance the smuggling of goods and weapons from Egypt through the smuggling tunnels...
So why approve the money transfer (is the logical question to ask)?

G&M "Debate": Is a Grand Ayatollah With Nukes a Threat to Humanity?

In the annals of bad ideas, allowing fanatical, Zion-loathing 12ers to acquire A-bombs is self-evidently bonkers, ranking right up there with, say, the appeasement of Hitler. Period. End of discussion. The powers-that-be at the Globe and Mail, however, think the subject is eminently worthy of "debate".

Post-Ceasefire, Gazans Give Their Newborns Killer Names

What was that you said, Golda? "Peace will come when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us"? How right you were, sister!:
Less than a week after the declaration of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Operation Pillar of Defense has already left its mark on the people of Gaza, in a rather unexpected way.

Some parents from the Strip have decided to name their newborn babies after operation-affiliated icons – from assassinated Hamas commanders to long-range missiles fired at Israel.

Muhammad al-Shafi'i Abu Nassat named his son, who was born Friday, after the Fajr missile. Naming his baby Fajr, Abu Nassat told Gaza media, was his way of expressing his gratitude to Iran, which was responsible for supplying Gaza with rockets that, according to Abu Nassat "struck the enemy for eight days."...
Aw! How adorable is that?

Canadian "Human Rights" Cases a Matter of "Common Sense"? As If!

The Ceeb's Michael Enright considers the case of the chick who was denied a "businessman's cut" by a Muslim barber, along with several other "human rights" cases, and concludes--laughably and bafflingly--that determing the outcome of these complaints boils down to "common sense."

If only it were so.

Anyone who's been paying attention to the weird and wacky complaints that get adjudicated in/by Canada's plethora of "human rights" bodies (Ezra Levant and Kathy Shaidle each wrote a book about some of them, and Mark Steyn detailed his surreal encounter with the British Columbia branch of kangaroos in his book Lights Out) would know that "common sense" in those precincts is most uncommon indeed. Truth be told "common sense" is rarely even in the same room, and complaints are decided by faux-judges who make up the rules as they go along, and whose rulings are often redolent of the same sort of capriciousness and totalitarian "logic" one finds in the pages of Lewis Carroll and/or Franz Kafka and/or Milan Kundera's The Joke.

It's nice of the Ceeb to finally notice the fact that there's a "hierarchy" of rights in Canada--and completely in character of it to take up the cause/case of the Muslim barber who, for religious reasons, cannot and will not cut the tresses of women to whom he is not related. And if you don't think that's what Enright is doing in his radio essay, consider this: never once does he mention the fact that the woman who was denied service is a lesbian (even though one can infer it from her customary choice of cut), because to do so would boost her standing in the pecking order of victimhood.

Another Song for the Season--The Man With the Clout

Old Mr. Morsi,
Jihadi, of course, he
Wants people to bow to sharia, m'dear.
Everybody's shouting 'bout the man with the clout--
Autocrat is here.
He's out to rule ya,
Get Obama's moolah,
By brokerin' calm there in Gaza this year.
Everybody's shouting 'bout the man with the clout--
Autocrat is here.

He'll be there
With his Allahu Akbar prayers
Linking him to the past.
Judges swear
He'll be much worse than Hosni,
Because he's Ikwan, see?

Old Mr. Morsi
Steers Egypt off course, he's
Determined to install sharia, m'dear.
Everybody's shouting 'bout the man with the clout--
Autocrat is here...

Elshobargy on the Argy-Bargy

Man, is the latest Canadian Islamic Congress chief cheesed off about Gaza. Here he is, working up a headful of steam--and rushing frantically to Hamas's defence--in the CIC's Friday Magazine:
Another pervasive mantra going around sounds like: “HAMAS – the terrorist group controlling Gaza – is responsible for the escalation of violence.”
Phrases like these are already sounding depressingly familiar in the current crisis.
Do we really need our leading diplomats or a Secretary of State to say these things? If I were new to politics, especially to the Middle Eastern scenario, I would be left with the impression that the entire conflict was initiated by a bunch of thugs born to be terrorists; hooligans seemingly allergic to peace and reverence for life; bad actors who get their kicks from disturbing, even traumatizing, their peace-loving neighbours!
But such an idiotic perception of the world’s hottest conflict, a conflict over the only remaining army-occupied land in the region, cannot possibly be true. Those who cling to this perception urgently need to read the history of the conflict and educate themselves about the real facts – the “facts on the ground” as politicians on all sides are so fond of saying. In this article, I do not endorse one “side” over another, but rather urge all – in particular our governments – to take it seriously.
Once again we are trapped, intentionally or unintentionally, in a vicious cycle of incidental violence and unnecessary killings. Yet these tragic elements are but symptoms of the deeper disease and it is long past time that we come to terms with the roots and causes of such a persistent recurrence. First of all: those who are chronically deprived of water, electricity, basic rights of mobility; those who have lost their homes, ancestral lands, employment and loved ones; and those continually besieged by a foreign army cannot be expected to digest yet another lecture about their occupier’s right to defend itself.
Yeah, those recurring "lectures"--they really suck, eh?

Um, the Big Kahuna knows that Gaza is Judenrein and Hamas is firmly in control there, doesn't he? Because from the sound of it, he thinks it's still Israeli "army-occupied." Also, I seem to recall hearing something about Hamas firing hundreds upon hundreds of rockets into southern Israel. But then I guess Mr. E. wouldn't see that as a provocation so much as part of the "resistance" to the non-occupation "occupation".

Update: Here's a seasonal song for Mr. E.:

Missiles fling: see 'em flying
As the Jooos they're decrying.
A terrible sight
To give 'em a fright.
Rockets in a Gaza hinterland.

Go away, all you Jewry.
Here to stay: jihad's fury.
Such devil-may-care,
They don't want us there.
Rockets in a Gaza hinterland.

In the secret tunnels they will smuggle
All the shiny weapons from Iran.
It's to help Hamas pursue the "struggle".
Remooovin' all the Jooos is what they plan.

Later on they'll perspire
As they restart their fire.
They'll keep keepin' on
Till Israel's gone.
Rockets in a Gaza hinterland.

Truth-Teller Salim Mansur on the Real Age and Source of the Israel-Palestinian Conflict

The learned professor, who visited Israel not too long ago, observes that the impetus of the "decades old conflict" is very, very old indeed:
Sitting in the shadow of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem one evening when visiting Israel, it became strikingly clear to me, as it is to most Israelis, that the ground zero of the millennial conflict between Islam and the West is right where I sat.
Islamists have made it amply clear, and the vast majority of Muslims support them, that this millennial conflict will not cease until Israel is annihilated.
Those Muslims small in numbers who repudiate such obscenity are in turn repudiated, ostracized, or killed as apostates from Islam.
Kudos to Mansur, a gentleman who has repeatedly shown that he's unafraid to speak truth to "the vast majority" within his faith. Would that we Jews gave honours and prizes to him instead of to, say, Tarek Fatah.

Update: Tragically, this is Mansur's final Sun column.

"Forbearance"? Tell It to the Banu Qurayza, Mr. U of T Muslim Chaplain

Interviewed by Toronto Life, University of Toronto Muslim Chaplain Amjad Tarsin expatiates on the subject of an offensive film and reactions to it (my italics):
I’m sure you’ve heard about the people who want to screen Innocence of Muslims here. Should they be allowed?
I haven’t seen the film, but my understanding is that it’s an unfortunate, unproductive sort of expression. You know, the Prophet lived with people who mocked and ridiculed him, and he was forbearing and patient and didn’t respond in a negative way. That’s my inspiration.
Actually, chaplain, he gave orders to chop off the heads of the men of an entire Jewish tribe (who declined his kind invitation to acknowledge him as "the seal of the prophets"). So much for his "patience" and "forbearance."

Yasser Arafat for President!

You don't really believe that, even dead and dug-up, he'd be any worse than Hamas, do you?

Hamas = Jihadis

I prefer that plain and simple characterization to "a grassroots Islamist cult," which is what this otherwise praiseworthy NatPo editorial calls 'em. The grassroots business makes 'em sound far too wholesome, too crunchy granola, if you will (when these hardened, genocidally-minded, death-worshipping holy warriors are anything but).

Is that you, Hamas? Not so much...

Guess Who's Delivering the Keynote Speech at This Year's "Reviving the Islamic Spirit" Confab in Toronto? None Other Than Pierre's Lad Justin

While Justin "Bieber" Trudeau is addressing the multitudes/shilling for votes on December 22, I wonder if he'll be at all bothered by the fact that another of the event's speakers at the confab, Dr. Jamal Badawi, has, among other things:
Call me crazy, but that doesn't seem terribly--now, what was that word Justin's pappy liked to use?--oh, yeah, multicultural of him.

Update: Also on the bill--Imam Zaid Shakir, a radical sort of chap who:
  • Contends that Muslims cannot accept the legitimacy of the existing American order.
  • Criticizes the U.S. for its “pattern of demonization, destabilization, and the invasion of hapless Third World nations.
  • Claims that organizations such as Hamas and al Qaeda are pursuing manifestly legitimate objectives.
Nice company you're keeping there, Justin.

OHRC Chief Commissar Hall's Explanation (Re Why We Need Her Crappy "Human Rights" Outfit) Lacks "Creed"ence

As she 'splains here, we need her/it to act as an intermediary between individuals (you know, like Big Brother, or in Babsy's case, Big Sister):
...As Canadian society becomes increasingly diverse, there is potential for tension as creed issues play out more and more often in the public sphere. Should religious organizations be allowed to have a say on the sex lives and life choices of their employees? Are veganism, ethical humanism or pacifism creeds? Can a school tell a student he or she can’t bring a same-sex partner to the prom?
Recent cases coming before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario include a religious woman who was told by her boss that she wasn’t allowed to pray because it was embarrassing, a Jewish man who was mistreated by firefighters because he was burning ceremonial candles, and a Mennonite man who was assumed to be part of drug culture because of his long hair.
We also see cases where religious rights and freedoms of one group seem to be in conflict with the rights of another group. Examples are a marriage commissioner refusing to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony, or a cab driver refusing a blind passenger with a service dog because of his religion.
Human rights principles help move us away from “us versus them” attitudes to an understanding that all rights matter. Part of what we do at the OHRC is respond to changes in society by regularly updating our human rights policies to help prevent and resolve conflict before it flares up...
"Human rights principles" help move us away from individual freedom and toward the enforced collectivist bollocks of Marxism. I have no doubt we Ontarians, whatever our "creed," could muddle through without these sanctimonious Virtue Police/school yard monitors mediating between grown-ups and helping "resolve" their conflicts. (In reality, what the OHRC and and its judicial adjunct, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, do is ensure that members of certain designated victim groups receive extra-special rights as a means of giving them a leg up--sort of a "human rights-y" version of Affirmative Action). And, as a bonus, think of all the money we'd save if we mothballed busybody Barb and Co.

CIJA Chair Urges Hamas to Become More Like--Wait for it--Anwar Sadat

Sometimes I wonder what sort of pixie dust Official Jews have been inhaling; the sort with hallucinogenic properties, no doubt. Asking Hamas--Hamas!!--which is in the midst of waging a jihad against the Jews, and whose Egyptian branch bears responsibility for murdering Anwar Sadat, to act more like the dude one of its like-minded brothers assassinated is like asking a leopard to change its spots, a zebra to change its stripes, or the Toronto Star (where this "brilliant" idea appears) to sack Harpoon Siddiqui for flagrant Zionhass.

In other words, it's an exercise in foolishness and futility.

In a word: nope

George and Ira Roll Over in Their Graves as Musical Nincompoop Matt Lauer Introduces Their Song as "S" Wonderful

As in: "S" wonderful/"S" marvelous/You should care for me.

"S" embarrassing how musically illiterate some people are.

Did Harpoon Siddiqui, the Toronto Star's In-House Shill for Islamism and Islamic Triumphalism, Just Call Hamas "Indispensible"?

Why, yes; yes he did. (Isn't it long past time that the Star started including barf bags in the paper version of its paper?)

Update: Just dashed off this letter:
Grand Ayatollahs, who delight in supplying Hamas with missiles with which to terrorize Israeli civilians, may see Hamas as "indispensible." So, too, may pundits such as the Toronto Star's Haroon Siddiqui, who had the chutzpah to employ the "i" word in connection with an organization that somehow manages to pledge allegiance to two of the most anti-Jewish regimes on the planet--Iran and Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. But for those who yet dream of seeing a genuine peace come to pass in the Middle East--one that, contra Ayatollahs, certain newspaper columnists and Muslim Brotherhood members, includes a Jewish state with secure borders--Hamas is the opposite of "indispensible."
Which is to say, it and its odious ideology are about as dispensible as it gets.
Update: Harpoon croons a Nat King Cole tune to Hamas:

Indispensible,
That's what you are.
Indispensible,
So you'll go far.
Resolute Hamas, you're doin' fine.
One fine day, you'll make it Judenrein.
Just once before,
Has someone done more.
Indispensible,
I like your work.
Indispensible,
Bibi's a jerk.
That's why, Hamas, it's defensible,
Why I find you indispensible,
And think Zion's reprehensible, too!

In a Shocking Acknowledgement of Reality, a Mainstream Media Outlet Drops the "P" Word in Favour of the "F" Word to Describe Egypt's Ikwan

A few short months ago, media outlets were almost unanimous in declaring Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood to be paragons of "pragmatism" (see, for instance, here, here, here and here). Today, though, another more accurate word is being deployed: fundamentalist, as in
The top cleric from Egypt's fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood has denounced peace efforts with Israel, urging holy war to liberate Palestinian territories.
Much better.

A Window Into the (Tortured, Skewed, Out to Lunch, West-Loathing) "Progressive" Mindset

Chris Hedges (possessor of said mindset) writes:
Gaza is a window on our coming dystopia. The growing divide between the world's elite and its miserable masses of humanity is maintained through spiraling violence. Many impoverished regions of the world, which have fallen off the economic cliff, are beginning to resemble Gaza, where 1.6 million Palestinians live in the planet's largest internment camp. These sacrifice zones, filled with seas of pitifully poor people trapped in squalid slums or mud-walled villages, are increasingly hemmed in by electronic fences, monitored by surveillance cameras and drones and surrounded by border guards or military units that shoot to kill. These nightmarish dystopias extend from sub-Saharan Africa to Pakistan to China. They are places where targeted assassinations are carried out, where brutal military assaults are pressed against peoples left defenseless, without an army, navy or air force. All attempts at resistance, however ineffective, are met with the indiscriminate slaughter that characterizes modern industrial warfare.
In the new global landscape, as in Israel's occupied territories and the United States' own imperial projects in Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and Afghanistan, massacres of thousands of defenseless innocents are labeled wars. Resistance is called a provocation, terrorism or a crime against humanity...
Actually, Chris, "resistance" is called--and is--jihad.

What's Up Doc? The Toronto District School Board Does Its Best to Mould Impressionable Kids (and Sink Western Civ.) Via Carrots and "Trans" Chatter

David Solway writes:
Like many school boards across the nation, [the Toronto District School Board] attempts to regulate everything from the traditional usages of the culture to the sexual identity of its students. The TDSB swims with the sewage, not only in the washrooms, but, for example, in renaming Hallowe’en as “Black and Orange Day” in order not to offend wiccans or immigrants for whom the custom of trick or treating is foreign or potentially unsettling in some way. But the TDSB is merely a symptom of the age in which, as I have written elsewhere, “the individual is no longer understood as a nexus of thought, energy, moral conviction and spiritual autonomy, with a biological identity furnished by Nature, but as a malleable lump of helpless suffering and justified desire to be pitied and served.” Our schools in particular have succeeded in turning us into creatures of ideological fashion rather than autonomous agents capable of self-reflection and resistant to social and political manipulation. Forget about math, science, literature or history; it’s all about social activism now. The signs of cultural decadence are everywhere around us, and the educational system has become one of the principal engines of moral and intellectual decay.
One learns from the TDSB site that the Wiccan New Year, celebrated on October 31st, is called "Samhain". It's
considered the last of the three harvest festivals. In times past, this would have been the 'meat' harvest, one in which the livestock that was not going to be able to be fed and sustained through the winter was slaughtered for the communities food supply into the coming months. It is the formal beginning of the 'dark' half of the year which ends on Beltane (April 30th-May 1st). This association with death continues today with many Wiccan groups gathering together to celebrate their ancestors and the gifts that they have given them in the form of family lore, skills, and wisdom. Candles are lit to call their souls back for the night and a feast is held with plates prepared of food for the honoured dead.
"Plates prepared of food," eh? What a way to put it that's awkward ;).

Update: In case you missed it, here's a recent Maclean's piece re carrots, Wiccans and the perils of a "social justice" edumacation.
