"Israeli Apartheid" In Action

Try as hard as they might, the Jooos can't seem to get the hang of that apartheid thing:
...Israel’s Supreme Court unanimously rejected an election committee’s attempt to disqualify an Arab lawmaker from running for parliament again next month because she took part in a flotilla that tried to breach Israel’s naval blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
The lawmaker, Hanin Zoabi, enraged many Israelis in 2010 by joining the Turkish-led Mavi Marmara flotilla, which was stormed by Israeli naval commandos who clashed with pro-Palestinian activists, killing nine. The Israeli military says the soldiers acted in self-defence after being attacked on the deck.
Zoabi was nearly assaulted in parliament by another lawmaker and subsequently was stripped of some of her parliamentary privileges.
Earlier this month, an Israeli elections committee voted to disqualify her from running in next month’s election. She appealed that decision to the Supreme Court, which overturned it, as it has rejected the committee’s attempts in previous years to bar other Arab candidates from running.
“I welcome the ruling,” Zoabi said. “I hope this ruling will put an end to the political witch hunt.”
The Toronto Star, on the other hand, has long had the hang of that anti-Zionism thing.

Ikwan So Hateful It Hertz

Who rates (and rants) as this year's biggest purveyor of Judenhass/Zionhass? And the winner is...
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood produced the worst anti-Semitic and anti-Israel slurs this year, according to the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

The center topped its annual "Top Ten Anti-Semitic/Anti-Israel Slurs" list with a quote from Mohammed Badie, the Muslim Brotherhood's supreme guide, who lamented "Jewish control" and "spreading of corruption on earth," and recommended "holy Jihad" as a remedy.

Also quoted in the entry was Futouh Abd al-Nabi Mansour, a cleric affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood who called on Allah to "destroy the Jews and their supporters" in a sermon delivered in the presence of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in October.
Second on the list was the Iranian regime.
Which makes the Khomeinists Avis to the the Ikwan's Hertz (the reason why the former try so much harder?).

Meet the New Islamist Sponsors, Same as the Old Islamist Sponsor

So IRFAN-Canada, the Muslim charity which was stripped of its charitable status because it kept sending shekels to Hamas, the Gaza branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, is out as the one and only sponsor of the Reviving the Islamist, oops, Islamic Spirit conference. Luckily, others have stepped up to shoulder the burden, including two sponsors which place sharia front and centre: Shariah Program, which seems to be like a Rosetta Stone course with a zany supremacist vibe; and Ijara Canada, a sharia finance effort whose slogan--"Bringing Families Home - The Sharia Way"--about says it all re its worldview.

Those two are the "gold" sponsors. The confab's "platinum" sponsor is Islamic Relief Canada, a charity associated with the Muslim Brotherhood; idiotically, the Canadian government is involved with IRC via CIDA, which, a few months ago, signed a deal to give it mucho taxpayer dinero.

And, yes, Justin Trudeau is still slated to give the keynote address at this sharia-fest.

Obama Set to Appoint "Ferociously Anti-Israel" Senator as His Next Sec'y of Defense; Ironically, His Name Rhymes With "Bagel"

Why would Obama tap Senator Chuck Hagel for the job? Mincing no words, Caroline Glick 'splains it like this:
Obama wants to hurt Israel. He does not like Israel. He is appointing anti-Israel advisors and cabinet members not despite their anti-Israel positions, but because of them.
Meanwhile, pseudo-Zionist outfit J Street high fives the selection, prompting this wry quip over at The Corner:
If there were any questions remaining regarding his fitness for Secretary of Defense, JStreet’s endorsement should be the final strike against him.
Care for a "hagel" and lox? Um, no thanks!

Maclean's Magazine's Premature Morsi Pronouncement

In its December 10 & 17 special issue, Maclean's cited Egypt's Mohamed Morsi as one of the NEWSMAKERS 2012. The magazine hailed him as--get this--"An unlikely peacemaker" who "positions post-revolution Egypt as a model of regional stability."

I realize that hindsight is 20/20, but whoops!

Shrewd Analysis of America's Financial Woes from a Member of Egypt's MuBros? Now, That's Scary!

MEMRI focuses on this Egyptian bloke's kooky Zionhass. But what I find far more compelling--and more than a little unnerving--is that, irrational Jew-hate aside, he has a much better handle on what ails America (i.e. that it cannot thrive and is fated to sink under the weight of its' humongous national debt) than the American president does.

Irrational Jew-hate as well as an obvious predilection for the totalitarian niceties of sharia aside, dare one see him as an Egyptian version of Mark Steyn?

So Much for "Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen Friendly Old Girl of a Town..."

These days, writes Bruce Bawer, the girl is likely to be stuck in a burqa, as, bit by bit, the burg submits to Islamization.

Worst. School. Assignment. EVER

Adolescence is a tough enough slog without teachers giving you lame brained assignments such as this:
A TEACHER has been suspended after giving 13 and 14-year-old pupils a suicide letter to write up as homework.

The man, a French teacher at the college in Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard, south of Angoulême in Charente, had asked the pupils to “imagine you are 18; you have decided to end your life... you decide at the last moment to give the reasons for your actions. In writing your self-portrait, you describe all the disgust you have for yourself”.

Suicide is the second cause of death in young people and parents and the parents’ federation FCPE reacted angrily after learning about the assignment. They called the education authority; who knew nothing of it, as it was not any part of the curriculum and the teacher had done no preparatory work. The authority has started an inquiry.

The task was handed to the pupils towards the end of October but the pupils had thought it was just a normal part of school work and said nothing to their parents, with many of them learning of it only when they read the homework notes from the teacher.

On one pupil’s essay the teacher had written in the margin: “Not enough detail”.

One parent asked if the next essay would be on how the pupils felt as they shoot up drugs, while the head of the school’s FCPE parents group criticised the assignment, saying it was virtually an invitation to suicide.

FCPE president Jean-Jacques Hazan denounced the assignment as “completely crazy” and said it was even more dangerous for any youngsters who had already had such thoughts.

This Is Where Zionhass Leads--To British Authorities Knee-Capping Jewish Schools by De-Listing Hebrew as an Acceptable Language to Teach

I'm sure it's completely coincidental that in the U.K., where Islam is said to be the fastest growing religion, Jews are being treated with a complete lack of consideration bordering on barely disguised contempt:
The British government is planning to exclude Hebrew from a list of recognized languages in the education system. According to a report by the 'Jewish Chronicle' the Board of Deputies of British Jews warned this week that this could damage Jewish education in the country. Education Minister Elizabeth Truss announced plans last month to make it compulsory, from September 2014, to teach a foreign language to children aged seven to 11. Schools would be required to offer at least one of only seven recognized languages, excluding Hebrew, the paper reports.
Many Jewish primary schools, which have to fit in Jewish studies alongside the national curriculum, currently offer Hebrew as their only foreign language. According to the Board of Deputies, they would find it impossible to continue teaching it if they were compelled to offer another foreign language as well...
I have a hunch authorities aren't demanding the same of schools currently offering, say, Arabic or Urdu as their only foreign language. In which case, this is out-and out bigotry that's both shameless and shameful.

Are Hamas and the PA Inching (Lurching) Toward a Reconciliation?

Could be. The Jerusalem Post reports that last week
the Palestinian Authority permitted Hamas to celebrate its 25th anniversary in Nablus, Hebron, Tulkarem and Ramallah. This was the first time that Hamas held public rallies in the West Bank since 2007.
Hamas was so pleased by the gesture that "it has given Fatah permission to hold rallies in the Gaza Strip marking its 48th anniversary."

Ain't that sweet--a bunch of implacable Zion-loathers momentarily setting aside their differences in order to scratch each others' bee-hinds.

John Ralston Saul's Curious Ethics

Mr. Smartypants has no problemo with the "ethics" of appearing as a token infidel at an Islamist confab. He has serious reservations, however, about describing Canada's oil industry--and Canadian oil--as "ethical."

CAIR Launches "True Jihad" Campaign

You may have heard that "jihad" refers to a holy war waged against infidels until such time as they capitulate. No so. According to Muslim Brotherhood-linked CAIR, it's a personal, internal "struggle," and has nada to do with all that messy holy war business. In an effort to persuade Americans that jihad is a good thing, CAIR has embarked on a new obfuscation P.R. campaign:
“The MyJihad campaign is about reclaiming Jihad from the Muslim and anti-Muslim extremists who, ironically but not surprisingly, see eye to eye on Jihad,” Ahmed Rehab, Executive Director of the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago), said in a statement obtained by OnIslam.net.
"Jihad is a term that has unfortunately been widely misrepresented by the actions of Muslim extremists first and foremost, and by attempts at public indoctrination coming from Islamophobes who claim that the minority extremists are right and the majority of Muslims are wrong.”...
Hands up all those who believe that two waves of holy warriors (first Arabian, then Ottoman) conquered great swathes of the planet via a personal, internal "struggle," or who think that "jihad" today means something different than it did back then.

I don't see any hands.

Update: BCF fixes the bus ads here.

CAIR's is a "cuddly" jihad

Hell, Connecticut

John Podhoretz tries to put yesterday's horrific events into some sort of context.

"Sharia Is Here"

That chilling pronouncement comes courtesy Andrew McCarthy. He's speaking about Obama's laissez-faire approach to the issue of blasphemy, one of Islam's biggest no-nos:
About three weeks ago, another Egyptian court sentenced seven people to death after convicting them in absentia on blasphemy charges. Most of the seven are in the United States. Most of them are Coptic Christians; one is a Florida-based pastor who is a blistering critic of Islamic scripture. The charges relate to the defendants’ alleged involvement in “Innocence of Muslims,” an obscure amateur video that Islamists have frivolously cited as a pretext for their latest round of international mayhem — and that the Obama administration has fraudulently portrayed as the catalyst of a massacre in Benghazi in which jihadists killed four Americans, including our ambassador to Libya.
So how has President Obama responded to the Egyptian government’s human-rights violations, its failure to protect the Copts from persecution (indeed, its willing participation in that persecution), and its provocations against Americans — which now include ordering their killing, through a kangaroo-court process that flouts our due-process standards, over their engagement in activity that is expressly protected by our Constitution?

Well . . . the president has announced that not only will he continue funding Egypt’s Islamist government, but he intends to include in that U.S. aid the provision of 20 F-16 fighter jets. Moreover, Obama is continuing his administration’s collaboration with the 57-government Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the “Istanbul Process.” That is the OIC’s campaign to impose sharia’s repressive blasphemy standards.
This just in: Barack Hussein Obama is not, I repeat not, a Muslim. He is, however, a big fat dhimmi.

Dear Justin: The Muslim Brothehood is Using You. It's Best to Bail While You Still Can

Beryl Wajsman sets it all out here:
Liberal leadership candidate and Papineau MP Justin Trudeau will be giving a keynote address at the “Reviving the Islamic Spirit” conference taking place in Toronto Dec.20-23rd. Trudeau’s address is scheduled for December 22nd. The Conference’s lead, or “platinum” sponsor (website description), is an organization named Islamic Relief, and its “diamond” sponsor is an organization called IRFAN. Other featured speakers include Tariq Ramadan, Jamal Badawi and Mustafa Ceric. All have significant ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood’s first elected head of government, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, has recently introduced constitutional changes that would give him unprecedented power answerable to no authority not even the judiciary. The past two weeks have seen large-scale demonstrations in Cairo between the secular liberals who drove the Arab Spring and the supporters of Morsi and the Brotherhood who back a system based on adherence to Sharia (Islamic religious law). Sources close to the Conference expect up to 20,000 participants. The Conference website features a video trailer with martial music playing as background to slogans such as “This is our time, this is our moment.”
On Nov. 16 nine people affiliated with Islamic Relief were charged with organizing activities for the group which the Russian Interior Ministry lists as a terrorist organization.
Earlier in November, 18 people were detained under suspicion of being members of Islamic Relief and are accused of possession of explosives, ammunition and weapons.
“Five of the accused are leaders of the Russian and Moscow-based cells of the organization,” the Ministry stated on Voice of Russia. Russia also lists the Muslim Brotherhood itself as a terrorist organization...
No, no, no. Everyone in the know knows that the MuBros are--now, what was that adjective the leftist media obsessively and reflexively uses to describe 'em again? oh, yeah--"pragmatic."

CAIR-CAN Defends Islamist Confab, Condemns Bloggers Who Exposed It

The infidels have shone a light on an annual Islamist event, so CAIR-CAN has raced into the fray to do major damage control. Here's some of its presser:
(Ottawa, Canada – December 12, 2012) – The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN) today condemns the attempts of anti-Muslim bloggers to smear Canada’s largest gathering of Muslims at the annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Conference.
“With 30,000 attendees last year alone, the RIS conference has become one of the leading events of its kind, anywhere in the world,” says Ihsaan Gardee, CAIR-CAN’s Executive Director. “To suggest that there is something untoward about a conference that invites leading thinkers like John Ralston Saul and Karen Armstrong to speak on topics such as inter-faith dialogue and mutual understanding is ludicrous. This is yet another example of Islamophobic vitriol aimed at marginalizing and vilifying Muslims.”
Point-de-Bascule describes itself as a “non-partisan” website that “defends our liberties by educating people on the Islamist threat”. However, its Islamophobic bias regularly takes aim at Muslims using misinformation to foster fear and suspicion.
The blog’s attempt at using scare tactics in calling the conference ‘Islamist’ in order to prevent guests like Liberal MP Justin Trudeau from addressing thousands of Muslims, many of whom are young people, should be rejected, says Mr. Gardee...
Reality check: Karen Armstrong is one of the world's foremost apologists for Islam; Point-de-Bascule has been doing yeoman's work exposing sharia creep in Canada; Justin Trudeau is an airhead opportunist pandering for votes; and P-d-B is far from the only one who describes this confab as "Islamist"--the Muslim Canadian Congress does, too.

As for Mr. J. Ralston Saul--there's no accounting for him.

Uber Useful Idiot Justin Trudeau Makes an Islamist Confab Sponsored by a Hamas-Supporting, Ahem, Charity Sound Like an Old Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland Musical

What's the problem, sez youngish Justin?:
"It's a group of young people who've pulled this together. Most of the organizers are young Muslims who are looking at trying to bridge the gap between the reality for Muslim Canadians and mainstream Canada and I'm very proud to be able to contribute."
Gee whiz, Justin (as Mickey might have said way back in the day), let's put on a show! Look again, though and you might glean that this "impromptu" event has been "thrown together" by a bunch of spunky young'uns--under the auspices of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hee Haw

Jonah Goldberg's post in The Corner about a man with a hankering for inter-species shtuppery reminded me of a favourite limerick:

There one was a girl from Madras
Who had a magnificent ass.
It was not round and pink
As you may think
But was gray and had ears and ate grass.

Useful Jewish Idiots Spew Zionhass on Shia TV

New U.S. Army Manual Advises Don't Let's Be Beastly to the Taliban

Or words to that effect:
The draft leaked to the newspaper offers a list of “taboo conversation topics” that soldiers should avoid, including “making derogatory comments about the Taliban,” “advocating women’s rights,” “any criticism of pedophilia,” “directing any criticism towards Afghans,” “mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct” or “anything related to Islam.”

Giving the Keynote Speech at an Islamist Convention? No Biggie, Says Justin Trudeau

He may be no rocket scientist--or for that matter a Michael Ignatieff. But even youngish Justin knows where the votes are these days--and he's determined to go out and get 'em.

Update: In the trailer for the event, the CN Tower looks an awful lot like a minaret.

How perfect! They say it became extinct every single one hurtled pell-mell and lemming-like over a fiscal cliff. ;)

And the Winner of This Year's Nobel Peace Prize Is...

EU leaders?!! The same folks who are sinking the continent in debt and hyper-regulation? The dudes who've been appeasing the Ayatollah even as he creeps e'er closer to nuclear blastoff?

Those guys?

Wait...is this another one of those Australian DJ jokes?

Cute Video of the Day Features Singing Dog, Chattering Baby

Hamas "Moderate"?

That's the fantasy, at least. The reality is that it's about as "moderate" as a rattle snake.

Song for the Fiscal Cliff

Busted flat in Washington,
Headin' for a cliff.
Feelin' nearly Swedish and EU.
Barry wants to soak the rich
Make 'em really pay.
Thinks that that is what he's s'posed to do.
He pulled a second term
Out of a history of failure
And now he's on an endless spending spree.
With the Arab world in tumult he's
Doing 'zactly as he pleases.
He sang ev'ry screwy song he knew.

Freedom's just another word for
Everything we'll lose.
Nothin's left, there's nowhere else to go.
Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when U.S. paved the way.
Hey, feelin' good was good when we had dough.
Good for us, but not for Barry McO...

Justin Trudeau Acting "Wisely, Shrewdly"? Now, THAT'S Funny

If one were asked to come up with two adverbs to describe the modus operandi of youngish Justin Trudeau, those are not the two that would immediately spring to mind. Off the top of my head, "cluelessly, haplessly" seem far more apropos.

Dare 2 Indoctrinate, More Like

From the Toronto District School Board site comes word of a hard-fought dance competition--and the eventual winner:
And the Winner for the TDSB Dare2Dance Challenge Is...
Westview Centennial SS!...
Westview Centennial SS took home first place with their dance “The One Percent” performed by Dynamic Synergy, Yassine Fathi and Nathaniel Mitchell...
Ironically, considering how much the TDSB pays its lavishly reinburshed unionized repair people, more than a few of them have probably made it into that much-despised demographic.

A Title That Tells You Pretty Much All You Need to Know About Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood

The party has a "Supreme Guide":
Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie has refuted claims that the group's supporters initiated the attack on President Mohamed Morsi's opponents Wednesday in a deadly confrontation between the two camps where at least six protesters were killed.

"We have eight martyrs and 1439 injured. All those who died [in Wednesday's clashes] are members of the Brotherhood. We also suffered the burning of 28 of our headquarters, apart from the Muslim Brotherhood's main Cairo headquarters. The headquarters of the Freedom and Justice Party newspaper has also been torched," he said.
"Supreme Guide," "Freedom and Justice Party"? Okay, the MuBros have officially jumped the Orwellian shark.

Canadian "Human Rights" Mausoleum Told to Continue Accentuating the Negative

There's growing conflict at Canada's money-hoovering "human rights" mausoleum over what is--and is not--appropriate for the museum to emphasize. On one side are those who realize that the museum's emphasis on competitive victimhood is a major downer, and would like to see "positive stories"--whatever the heck they are; tales of those who are happy and content because they have all their "human rights." On the other side, those who are determined to compel visitors to wallow in the awfulness. Case in point: University of Manitoba law prof Karen Busby:
Busby, director of the university’s Centre for Human Rights Research, said the board’s call for more positive stories about immigration and refugees is troubling.
“That’s the kind of direction that shouldn’t be coming from the board,” she said.
“Actually, Canada has a lot of terrible immigration stories," she added. “The lessons to be learned are from the mistakes we have made — the stories of who we turned away when clearly they were facing humanitarian crises in their home country.
And let's not forgot those dreadful First Nations "stories," right, professor?
“In my view, it would be a tragedy, though, if they don’t tell the stories of mistakes that Canada has made. And that’s my fear — that they won’t tell about atrocities that have occurred on our own soil for which we can learn many valuable lessons going forward,” she said, referencing the wrongs done to First Nations people.
"Those are the stories we need to tell. And we need to tell those stories because we repeat the same mistakes today."
I wouldn't fret too much if I were you, professor. There's little chance that a museum that has a "mass atrocities" zone is likely to overlook any of our "wrongs".

Hamas's Khaled Sings Lenny (Cohen)

They sentenced us to years and years of torment
For trying to claim the land and all its goods.
We're coming back,
Our hatred's never dormant.
First we take Ramallah.
Then we take Al Quds!

We're guided by a signal in the heavens.
We're guided by the words of our Koran.
We're guided by the beauty of our weapons.
First we take Ramallah.
Then we take Al Quds!

We really hate to live beside you, Jewry.
He hate your people, and your plenty, and your crimes.
Now you see those missiles moving north from Gaza.
We'll 'splode you, we'll 'splode you, we'll 'splode you,
 Many, many times.

We don't like your funny business, Zion.
We don't like the trees in your Jew woods.
We don't like the way that you've been lyin'.
First we take Ramallah,
Then we take Al Quds!

Few Takers for Doha "Hot Air"

This bit, from a Beeb report about the Doha climate conference, gave me a chuckle:
Under the Kyoto Protocol, Poland and Russia were handed free carbon permits to allow their heavy industries to continue to operate. But when Eastern European industry collapsed, the permits - which have a financial value - were not needed. At this point they became "hot air", with the potential to be sold to other nations. This undermines the regime of cutting emissions overall.

Poland has refused to surrender its permits. The EU has been heavily criticized for allowing this loophole but it's also been trying to avoid any more internal diplomatic crises. So it looks to be moving towards a compromise which will restrict the future sale of "hot air".
They'd get just as far moving towared a compromise which would restrict the future sale of snake oil, no?

Funny, But I Don't Remember the Part of "Red Light, Green Light" Where Jihadis Screaming "Allahu Akbar!" Interrupted the Game

In a reductio ad absurdum, a noted Israeli pundit reduces Israel's problems, both external and external, to old timey kiddie school yard game, Red Light, Green Light. In case you're not familiar with it (or to refresh your memory), it involved a kid saying "green light" (for "go") or "red light" (for "stop"), until one of the other kids won by crossing the line or tourching the wall at the other end of the yard. The smartypants sees this game as a metaphor for Israel's experience:
Israel was founded on a noble and large dream. Our future will be secured when we stay loyal to our foundations and aspirations. As in Red Light, Green Light, we have to move cautiously. If we want to win, truly win, however, and by that I mean to create a viable, productive, prosperous Jewish, democratic state at peace with our neighbors, we are also going to have to keep our eyes open for opportunities to dare, when a bold move can change the outcome.

Let’s play this game. Let’s play it well. Let’s always remember our true goals. If we do so, we will continually progress is the right direction.

There will be stops and starts, and at times we will be sent back to the beginning. But at the end, we will touch the wall together.
No you won't. And to think you ever will is moony, and, yes, dangerous Utopianism.

Update: While one noted pundit finds himself lost in childhood reveries, another notices a distinct deterioration in the school's neighbourhood.

TV Show Glee Displays Egregious Bigotry

Oh, not against any minority, of course. As per usual, the show goes out of its way to make members of every victim group appear as saintly as possible--especially the insufferable Kirk. No, the bigotry on display in recent episodes is against one of two groups that can be acceptably reviled--Christians, especially those of a fundamentalist bent. (The other group it's acceptable to hate: rich people--right, Ed?) For that reason, the show has tapped a fundamentalist Christian chick as its villainess du jour. She's so horrible, so obviously malevolent (a function of her belief system, the show implies), that she's tricked the "new" Rachel, a guileless sweetie burdened by a morbidly obese mom who works in the school cafeteria--into becoming bulimic.

I'm not sure if the villainess is rich as well as devoutly Christian. But, on the theory that it's more efficient to get two birds with one stone, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she were.

The malicious Christian is the blonde seen on the left; her "victim" is the brunette on the right

Toronto Star Op-Ed Piece: No "Honour Crimes" to See Here. Best Move Along Now

In an op-ed piece about why immigrant women are at risk of domestic violence, one finds this startling paragraph:
Recall the case of Rona Amir Mohammad, the first wife of Montreal’s Mohammad Shafia. She came to Canada on a visa as a domestic servant of the family and found herself trapped in an abusive marriage. With the renewal of the visa hanging over her head and at the mercy of the Shafia family, Rona was too afraid to flee. She ended up becoming one of the murder victims of Shafia, who along with his son drowned Rona and his own daughters.
In recalling the case, one recalls that Mohammad, wife number one in a polygamous marriage, was murdered along with three of the Shafia daugthers, a crime committed for reasons of "family honour" by the girls' father, brother and mother. That takes it out of the realm of "domestic violence" and puts it into the category of "honour crimes," which are very different, for reasons Phyllis Chesler, the go-to expert on the subject, outlines here. If the authors of this op-ed, a trio of women with expertise on the subject of immigrant women and the violence they face, aren't willing to factor in the "honour" component when relevant, how can they ever hope to help other Ronas and other Shafia sisters? (In recalling the case, one recalls that social service agencies were no help whatsoever, likely because they, too, refused to acknowledge that the complaints of the abused Shafia sisters were anything other than garden variety "domestic" issues.)

Ceeb Touts "Virtuous" Presents for Xmas

This is just sooo Ceeb:
Some Canadians plan to celebrate the season a little differently, such as buying only Canadian-made gifts, purchasing presents that benefit charitable causes, or by not shopping at all.
How selfless, noble and altruistic of them (is what the Ceeb, pushing the religion of leftism, wants you to think).

More Quixotic than Quixote: An Ecologist in Iran

From the L.A. Times:
TEHRAN — His son is named after the river born where the Tigris and Euphrates meet. His wife once complained that he loved a rare species of yellow deer more than her.

His realm runs from sprawling salt deserts to the snowcapped peaks of the Zagros Mountains, from southern marshes along the Persian Gulf to damp northern forests known as the "cloud jungle."
Mohammad Darvish, 47, is Iran's green gladiator, engaged in a quixotic, often lonesome quest to elevate his homeland's environmental IQ. In a nation where security and economic concerns overshadow threats to a varied and fragile ecosystem, he even dares to oppose nuclear power, sacrosanct to Iran's leaders.

"It is budding, but it is far from being a movement," the indefatigable Darvish says of environmental consciousness in Iran. "But I am sure the environment will be a full-fledged movement one day, and Iran will have Green [political] parties that will send members to parliament."...
To dream the impossible dream, eh?

He's flying under the mullahs' radar for now. I predict, though, that if keeps tilting at the Ayatollah, his days are bound to be numbered.

An Ironic Lesson From Nature That's Lost on Obama

Via Diana West, here's an amusing/mordant annecdote:
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people. Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us: "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." The stated reason for the policy? "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."
Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Bob Rae's Priorities--Ensuring We Contintue to Pony Up the Shekels for "Palestine" AND, Even More Crucially, Halting Israeli Construction

The interim Liberal leader is pleased by government assurances that we won't summarily stop the money flow, but is far more concerned about Jews building stuff:
Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae said he was reassured by the decision, but he criticized [Foreign Affairs Minister John] Baird for not speaking out against the new Israeli settlement plan.

“I’m not sure we needed to go to all the trouble of recalling all the four ambassadors to come to that very simple conclusion,” said Rae.

“I think the issue of the day now is what is the position of Mr. Baird with respect to the decision of the government of Israel to go ahead with the construction of 3,000 new homes on the West Bank,” he added.

“This clearly represents a problem. It is not within the policy framework that Canada has had since 1967 under Mr. Mulroney, under every Liberal and Conservative government since that time.”
High time for a change, then, no? (Funny how those on the Left are so gung ho for "change"--provided it's the sort of "change" they want to see. Otherwise, they're as gung ho for the status quo as it gets.)

Hashemite Horror Story

The Muslim Brotherhood has put Jordan on its hit list, and Ryan Mauro says it'll be no surprise if Jerry-Mathers-as-the-Beaver lookalike King Abdullah caves.

The king? Fooled ya--it's the Beave

Jingle Bell Hell

Dashing to the end
At a frantic, futile pace.
O'er the cliff they go
Kvetching as they race.
China holds the deed.
See them as they speed.
The point of it is pointless since
It's big spending cuts they need.

Oh, fiscal cliff, fiscal cliff,
Fiscal cliff's a go.
Oh, what fun it is to spew b.s.
And shovel snow.
Oh, fiscal cliff, fiscal cliff,
Fiscal cliff's no joke.
Voted for Obama
Now the country is flat broke.

"To Be Frank, You Can't Be Sure of What Hamas Wants," Says Tony Blair

It's easy-peasy, Mr. Blair (who's sounding more Neville than Frank): it wants nothing less than Israel dead and gone and Islam calling the shots everywhere, forever.

How's That for a "Rite of Passage"--a Lap Dance From Hugh Jackman?

The NatPo's Rebecca Tucker describes a "charming" showbiz custom:
Amanda Seyfried may have starred alongside Hollywood heavyweights Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson in Chloe and held her own against Meryl Streep in Mama Mia!, but everyone knows you only really come of age in Hollywood once Hugh Jackman has given you a lap dance — which, finally, is exactly what happened to the Les Miserables star on the occasion of her 27th birthday.
Jackman, who plays the father of Seyfried’s Cosette in Les Mis — “It’s one of those father daughter relationships,” he apparently joked while gyrating atop the 27-year-old actress — did the deed onstage at Porter House, in New York City, where the cast of the upcoming film were celebrating an early screening. “Tonight is a special night, and I am going to sing one song,” Jackman said before calling Seyfried onstage, commanding her to sit down, then getting all up on her...
M'kay. From where I sit, though, it appears that Hugh's the kind of cheapskate who would sooner flap his goods in his co-stars' faces than to buy 'em an actual present.

What say you to that, Mrs. Hugh Jackman?

UN Palestine Vote Exemplifies How the "International Community" Puts the Diss in Dysfunctional

Smart cookie Jennifer Rubin writes:
Last week's vote to extend non-member observer status to the Palestinians at the United Nations was a virtual primer on what is wrong with the U.N., the European Union, the Palestinian Authority and the United States when it comes to the Middle East.
One hardly needs to note that the U.N.'s Israel obsession, which takes up more of its time and elicits more Human Rights council resolutions than any issue or country on the planet, comes at a time the body can't bring itself to move against Bashar al-Assad in Syria, religious oppression of Christians in the Middle East or, goodness gracious, anything regarding the authoritarian revanchism in Georgia. Nothing to see there. Keep moving on. (This, by the way, is the "international community" in all its glory that President Obama so diligently courts.)...
And soon enough, Abbas's complaints about Israel will likely be considered the International Court in the Hague (something that could only occur as the result of the UN upgrade).

Talks 'Tween Israel and the Palestinians Fated to Fail Due to Irreconcilable Differences

Wesley Pruden, the anti/non-Buruma, articulates them pithily here:
The Palestinians won't settle for anything less than all Israelis dead, or shipped off to somewhere far away. The Israelis, unreasonable as they may seem in the salons of the West, are determined not to settle for anything less than survival.

Who Are You?

Pete Townsend 'fesses that he's "a bit of a Neocon," an admission that's as shocking in our time as the line "Hope I die before I get old" was back in its day.
