Canadian Islamic Congress Looking Forward to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's New, Ahem, Peace-Making Agenda

In other words, it can't wait until he throws Israel under the bus:

“We sincerely congratulate Justin Trudeau,” [CIC chief Elsho] said in today’s press statement, “and hold great hopes for the re-emergence of a party whose past policies in government were built on the strengths of our multicultural democratic tradition and our international reputation for peace-making and diplomacy.” 

Dr. Elshorbagy noted that under the previous Liberal governments of prime ministers such as Lester B. Pearson, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin, minority communities – including Canada’s estimated 800,000 Muslims – made steady progress in a society where their issues and concerns were heard and supported. 

“There is much building and rebuilding ahead to bring Canada back to the esteem it once received from the rest of the world, as well as to regain ground that some Canadians might have lost in terms of their rights and social equality,” he added. 

In past pre-election studies and surveys, CIC research has indicated that a politically active Muslim community could generate major voter support for a party built on pro-multiculturalism policies at home, and foreign policies built on peace-making, humanitarian aid and social justice. 

“Canadian Muslims will not simply be watching the next election, whether it comes in 2015 or sooner,” he concluded. “We will be part of it.”
