Dissing Mister Steyn

As an unapologetic Canadian Steynophile (some years back I even won the Free Mark Steyn contest), I've been watching the anti-Steyn backlash that's been brewing south of the border with a mixture of puzzlement and bemusement. Out of the blue, and for some strange reason, a slew of right wing pundits have begun to bash Steyn for--get this--"doom-mongering."

Funny, that's why I enjoy reading him: because he doom-mongers so consistently--and so amusingly.

Here, for example, is a riff selected at random from his "doom-mongering" book, After America:
For decades, western elites have been bored by their own traditions and festishized the exotic. Obama was both the beneficiary of this syndrome and its apotheosis. He was living his own COEXIST sticker: his parents were Kansan and Kenyan, as if paired by an alphabetically minded dating agency; he was Hawaiian and Indonesian; for white liberals he offered absolution from racial guilt, but he wasn't one of those in-your-face types like the Reverend Al and the Reverend Jesse yelling grievance jingles all day long; he was a community organizer from the mean streets of Chicago, yet he was also by some happy if vague process an alumnus of half the schools in the Ivy League, and he had the great good fortune not to live in any of the "communities" he "organized" but instead in the more salubrious Hyde Park, a community organized by John D. Rockefeller's money; he embodied "change," but he peddled the same reassuringly shopworn bromides ("America, this is our moment") whose woozy evasions liberals chose to regard as the second coming of Cicero; he was kinda Christian (albeit of the paranoid, neo-segregationist, Afro-nationalistic branch) but sorta Muslim (from a Jakarta madrassah, but don't worry, not one of the heavy-duty kind); he had a white grandmother but also an undocumented auntie served with an unenforced deportation order. If that's not the all-American resumé for the twenty-first century, what is?
Okay, maybe it wasn't picked at random, but so what? It's merely one example from a book replete with such deliciously "negative" flights of prose.

I submit that, in the wake of the ObamaCare rollout debacle, Steyn's "doom-mongering" is not only appropriate, it's freaking prescient. I further submit that what's really gotten these dissers in a snit is pent-up frustration over the fact that they can't do what Steyn can do, and that Steyn can do it with such grace and apparent ease.

In other words, jealously over Steyn's peerless wit and way with words is what has sparked the backlash.

With No "Genocide" Label Forthcoming, Canada's "Human Rights" Mausoleum Invites Aboriginal Youths to Create "Spirit Panels"

Seriously, how much is that going to cost us?
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Oct. 29, 2013) -
Aboriginal youth from every province and territory in Canada are contributing their human rights visions to artistic "spirit panels" being created for an Indigenous Perspectives gallery in the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR).
The National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) today signed a partnership agreement with the CMHR to host youth workshops with First Nations, Métis and Inuit Elders and artists in 13 communities from coast to coast to coast. The resulting artwork - intended to portray human rights concepts from the diverse perspectives of Canada`s Aboriginal youth - will adorn a unique circular theatre inside the Museum, which opens in Winnipeg in 2014 as Canada's newest national museum.
"The perspectives of Canada's Indigenous Peoples are an integral part of the human rights narrative within the Museum, expressing a strong sense of responsibility and connection to community and the environment," CMHR chief operating officer Gail Stephen said at a news conference held today with NAFC representatives at the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre of Winnipeg, where youth engaged in a workshop with Anishinaabe artist Louis Ogemah.
Stephens noted that stories related to human rights issues of Indigenous Peoples will be found throughout the Museum, in every one of its galleries.
What are some of the "human rights" issues the young "spirit panel" creators be discussing?
Kat Fiddler, president of the NAFC's Aboriginal Youth Council, said the young people bring a fresh perspective that has spurred discussion on issues ranging from right to water, community, gender and equality.
Swell.  I have a feeling, though, that it won't compensate for the mausoleum's refusal to cough up an official "genocide" designation.

Nice try, though.

Barack Battles the Horrifying Middle East Monster!

In  trying to account for her boss's baffling foreign policy M.O., flunky Susan Rice said this to the New York Times:
The president’s goal, said Ms. Rice, who discussed the review for the first time in an interview last week, is to avoid having events in the Middle East swallow his foreign policy agenda, as it had those of presidents before him.
“We can’t just be consumed 24/7 by one region, important as it is,” she said, adding, “He thought it was a good time to step back and reassess, in a very critical and kind of no-holds-barred way, how we conceive the region.”
Sounds like a low budget horror flick, no?--The Beast That Swallowed the Foreign Policy Agenda!

If that's really his goal (and if he isn't winging it/making it up as he goes along), then why, but a few short weeks ago, was he so intent on getting involved in the Syrian mess?

Snubbed by Obama, Wiesenthal Hits Back

Actually, it should be honoured that it didn't make Obama's cut of approved Jews:
A leading Jewish human rights group called out the Obama administration Wednesday for its recent efforts to block new Iran sanctions legislation, and urged the senate to “immediately adopt the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act, which earlier passed the House with broad bi-partisan support.”
“We respectfully disagree with the White House’s push to give the Iranians more time,” said rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, who also called on the President to sign the bill if it is ratified by the senate.
The criticism comes only a day after Jewish leaders were urgently summoned to the White House to discuss sanctions on Iran. Although Jewish leaders touted the meeting as a “constructive and open exchange,”  it was described by the Jerusalem Post as “an effort to dissuade them from lobbying the Senate towards passing harsh new sanctions against Iran.”
The Simon Wiesenthal Center was not invited to participate in the meeting.
I'd wear that with pride, Rabbis.

Looking for Their "Crown Heights Moment" NYC Muslims Taking Their Cues From Jews

Since they now have formidable numbers, they're looking to become a formidable voting bloc:
Indeed, on Oct. 16, Muslim activists appeared with de Blasio at a rally in downtown Brooklyn, where he vowed to have the NYPD’s new inspector general review the department’s surveillance program, known as the Zone Assessment Unit, which maps Muslim residents at their places of worship and leisure—just one step in a long process, but another sign of change.
De Blasio’s GOP opponent Joe Lhota, on the other hand, has declined to meet with Muslim groups like Almontaser’s, she says—a sign of how far Muslims have yet to go in terms of convincing political elites they are an indispensable constituency. Complicating the organizing process is that imams are simply not politically involved in the way many rabbis in the ultra-Orthodox community—who often oversee religious service or welfare organizations, rather than pulpits—have been. Many imams working in the city are temporary stand-ins traveling from abroad and do not take a prominent role in local politics, leaving the political work to community leaders—people who don’t have identifiable constituencies they can promise at the polls on Election Day.
“There’s no convenient way for outsiders to define the Muslim community as a bloc,” says Democratic political consultant Hank Sheinkopf. “Unfairly, Muslims are still being tarred with the 9/11 brush, and politicians are not afraid of them.”
And yet, it’s possible to imagine de Blasio appointing a formal liaison to the Muslim community—an equivalent to the Jewish community liaisons whose presence in city offices is now almost a given. Muslim leaders hope that this is their Crown Heights moment—that those unfamiliar with the mechanics of American democracy will be inspired to figure it out—but know they have a long way to go.
I have faith that soon enough they'll figure it out.

Canada Sucks Says Canada's Pre-Emiment Feminist Legal Historian

Of course, she didn't use those exact words, but it's implicit in her comments:
OTTAWA — It can be sad work in some ways, says Constance Backhouse, to uncover historical discrimination against women and racial minorities and dispel myths that Canadians hold about the country’s past.
“We have such a lovely sentiment — Canadians think of ourselves as a nation of fair people, promoting equality and diversity and multiculturalism, and in fact when you probe down into our history, you see some pretty bad laws, really bad governments, people who were really discriminatory against women, against racial minorities, against gays and lesbians, against people with disabilities. There was a wide gamut in which Canadians are very blameworthy,” said Backhouse, a University of Ottawa law professor who is considered Canada’s pre-eminent feminist legal historian...
The reason she's very busy uncovering historical discrimination is because in the equity/diversity/multishmulti-mad Canada of today there isn't any discrimination to speak of. For leftists, though, that doesn't matter. Nor does it matter that we've come so far since those bad old days. What matters is that once upon a time there was lots of discrimination, and we must all hang our heads in shame in perpetuity because of it.

Quebec Women's Group Denounces "Honour Crimes"--Then Completely Undermines the Denunciation Via Mealy-Mouthed Political Correctness/Moral Equivalence

Sounds to moi like they need to do a bit more research into the matter:
Quebec's Council for the Status of Women says groups that deal with children and families should be given better tools on dealing with cultural differences and so-called 'honour' crimes.
The Council studied 26 instances of honour crimes that have taken place in Canada since 1991, with the four murders of the Shafia women in 2009 being the worst case.
In fact it was the Shafia murders that prompted the provincial government to ask the Council to examine honour crimes and see what could be done to stop them.
The analysis says in many ways honour crimes are similar to conjugal violence, except that instead of just one person attempting to control a woman, with honour crimes members of an extended family can seek to exert control over a woman or girl.
Honour crimes can consist of confining a woman to her home, forcing her to wear certain clothing, arranged marriages, genital mutilation or murder.
"These violent acts are not exclusive to any one culture or religion," said the President of the Council on the Status of Women, Julie Miville-Dechene. "It wasn't that long ago that in Quebec underage and unmarried women were sent away from home if they got pregnant," and often forced to give up their children.
Maybe so, but they weren't freaking murdered by their dads and brothers to restore the family's honour. The fact that this chick can equate the two situations shows an unwillingness to deal with the real issues of power, control and female subjugation inherent in "honour" crimes. For starters, she and other Council members could read Phyllis Chesler on the subject

Kathleen Sibelius: Arrogance Personified

Jonathan S. Tobin writes:
ObamaCare was a bill that was rammed through Congress on a partisan vote in which the normal legislative process was ignored and questions were swept under the rug. It was sold to the public with lies and it is now being implemented in a fashion that is hurting at least as many citizens as those it is supposed to help. But at no point in this process has the administration shown itself willing to listen to the people being inconvenienced or harmed or even, as Sebelius repeated today, to give an exemption or a delay in the personal mandate as a result of the website debacle.
In a perverse way this makes sense, since it is in keeping with the top-down spirit of this attempt to have the government begin the process of taking over American health care. In the view of the president and Sebelius, the lies and the failures are mere details that are insignificant when compared to their ambitions and what they believe are their good intentions.
These days I'm disinclined to believe any free-spending leftist politician named Kathleen.

Buh Bye, IHMC 2013!

As another Islamic History Month Canada is put to bed, Tarek Fatah has a question for some of its celebrants:
All this month [the Ottawa police] have been celebrating Islamic History Month with a banner strung up across their headquarters, declaring their partnership with Islamic groups.
I am told Chief Charles Bordeleau has gone out of his way to learn the history of Islam and the Muslim community.
Perhaps one question that should be asked during Islamic History Month is why so many Muslims leave Islamic countries to live among non-Muslims, while so few non-Muslims apply for citizenship in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Iran, the triad of countries that runs modern Islamdom?
Good question. You can be sure, though, that the police, "bridge-builders" that they are, are among those would never dare ask it.

Barry Puts Jewry in the Twilight Zone, Commanding Them to Say That His Iran "Diplomacy" Scheme is a Good Thing

Cue the TW music:
The participants in the off the record discussion included leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee, and AIPAC, key communal bodies that have all taken vocal positions on Iran’s nuclear program.
They “agreed to continue the consultation to enhance the prospect of achieving a transparent and effective diplomatic resolution,” they said.
The carefully worded statement made no reference to the current public points of disagreement between the United States and Israel over both the approach, and the desired outcome of the ongoing nuclear talks between six world powers and Iran known as the P5+1.
On Sunday Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu dismissed discussion over how far Iran should be allowed to enrich uranium, and insisted that Iran be denied nuclear breakout capability.
“Iran is willing to give up on enriching uranium to 20% and therefore a discussion on this issue is unimportant. The importance of the issue became superfluous in the wake of the technological improvements that allow Iran to enrich uranium from 3.5% to 90% in a number of weeks. Pressure on Iran should be increased because it is continuing enrichment even as it negotiates,” he said.
On Monday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that “the US would not ‘succumb to fear tactics,’ of those who oppose diplomacy,” with Iran, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The post said that the remarks “could be construed as a reference to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s warnings to the world not to fall for the ‘charm offensive’ of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.”
I think I saw that episode. It's the one where the mishpacha tells the all-powerful, freckle-faced moppet, "It's a good you thing you did, Barry" so he won't banish them to the cornfield.

Irony Alert: Daniel Pearl Jazz Festival at Corcordia U

Given that Montreal's Concordia U is a hotbed of Zionhass (it once went wild for Bibi Netanyahu--and not in a good way), and that Daniel Pearl was decapitated by a jihadi for the "crime" of being Jewish, this, a jazz festival at Concordia in Pearl's name, is awash in irony:
MONTREAL - Even the most ardent believer in music’s healing power will acknowledge that the greatest sax solo in history can’t stand up to the thunderstorm of horror and evil in the world.
But that horn’s wailing might remind us of a human connection we share. And who knows what that kind of mindset can accomplish — particularly when it pops up in patches all over the planet.
That, in essence, is what those involved in a Concordia University jazz concert for the 12th annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days event will tell you.
Pearl, working as a bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, was kidnapped and beheaded in Pakistan by al-Qaida in 2002. From that year on, Daniel Pearl World Music Days have been held every October, the month of his birthday. To date, more than 11,000 performances in 129 countries have taken place in honour of the journalist, who played violin.
The Daniel Pearl Foundation, which also sponsors lectures, a journalism fellowship and an international news website for secondary school students, describes its stated mission as “(promoting) tolerance and understanding internationally through journalism, music and dialogue.”
According to trumpeter Charles Ellison, Concordia’s coordinator of jazz studies, Thursday’s concert by members of the university’s music faculty was already scheduled when the department was approached by the United States Consulate to make the performance a Pearl awareness-raising event...

Ellison said he hopes people will gain an “elevated appreciation of jazz and of the oneness of humankind” from listening.
Tell it to the Jew-despising decapitators, Chuck.

Loony Lefty Lawyers Want Local Officials to Arrest Richard (Dick) Cheney

They wrote them this letter:
Dear Toronto Chief of Police William Blair and Attorney General John Gerretsen;
Re: Duty to arrest Richard Cheney as a person suspected on reasonable grounds of authorizing, counseling, aiding, abetting and failing to prevent torture.
Richard Cheney, former Vice President of the United States of America is scheduled to speak in Toronto Ontario on 31 October 2013 at the Toronto Global Forum, hosted by the International Economic Forum of the Americas at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
Once Richard (Dick) Cheney enters Canada:
• All of the torture alleged against and admitted by Dick Cheney, is deemed to have taken place in Canada, pursuant to (s. 7(3.7) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
• criminal proceedings can be commenced against him in Toronto Ontario BC (CC, s. 7(5);
• Canada must ensure that Dick Cheney is either investigated and prosecuted for the indictable offence of torture in Canada or extradited to another country willing and able to do so (Convention against Torture, Art. 7);
• Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers are duty bound to arrest and detain Dick Cheney for investigation on suspicion of torture as part of Canada’s mandatory legal obligation to prevent and
punish torture globally;
• TPS officers are duty bound to arrest Dick Cheney to ensure the proper conduct of his investigation and prosecution for torture in Canada or his extradition to a country willing and able to prosecute;
• TPS officers are duty bound to arrest Dick Cheney to prevent him from escaping to the United States or some other jurisdiction where he will have ‘safe haven’ from prosecution for torture;
• the arrest of Dick Cheney can be carried out without warrant in advance of the commencement of criminal proceedings in Canada.
As you are aware, the common law duty of police officers including TPS officers to investigate and prevent crimes such as torture, have been enacted by statute. TPS officers also have a mandatory duty to prevent offences against the administration of justice such as enabling a torture suspect (in this case a person who has admitted to authorizing and failing to prevent torture) to escape prosecution.
The duty to investigate and prevent torture also arises from the Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes Program (War Crimes Program), established to meet the challenge of investigating crimes committed  outside Canadian territory. The mandate of the War Crimes Program is to “…support Canada’s policy to  deny safe haven to suspected perpetrators of [torture]… and to contribute to the domestic and international fight against impunity.” 1
The Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes Section has received and is reviewing a request from Lawyers against the War to ensure that Dick Cheney, if he enters Canada, is prosecuted for torture...

Maclean's and the "Misquotes"

Canada's national magazine gets on Suzanne Somers' back for misquoting two famous statesmen:
Former Three’s Company star, ThighMaster maven and self-help writer Suzanne Somers has waded into the U.S. health care debate, penning a critical Wall Street Journal op-ed that’s prompted its own criticism for some famous misquotes and inaccuracies.
“Medical care will be degraded, the costs will skyrocket, and most frightening of all, your most intimate and personal information is now up for grabs,” writes Somers, in a piece that bears the title ‘The Affordable Care Act Is a Socialist Ponzi Scheme‘ (Tell us what you really think, Suzanne!). Somers also cites, semi-accurately, a 2008 Maclean’s cover story.
Somers’ op-ed was taken to task by writers at The Atlantic Wire and New York magazine (“Whatever she lacks in traditional analytic skills, she more than makes up for with a strong love of freedom,” writes Jonathan Chait), but what garnered the most attention was a pair of quotes attributed to Vladimir Lenin and Winston Churchill — erroneously, it turns out.
The WSJ correction, subsequently appended to the piece: “An earlier version of this post contained a quotation attributed to Lenin (“Socialized medicine is the keystone to the arch of the socialist state”) that has been widely disputed. And it included a quotation attributed to Churchill (“Control your citizens’ health care and you control your citizens“) that the Journal has been unable to confirm.”...
What Lenin actually said was, "Medicine is the keystone of the arch of socialism," which means pretty much the same thing as the misquote.

As for the Churchill quotation, I wasn't able to find it, either. I was, however, able to find these ones:
  • “If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law.”
  • "Socialists think profits are a vice; I consider losses the real vice."
  • "Some see private enterprise as a predatory target to be shot, others as a cow to be milked, but few are those who see it as a sturdy horse pulling the wagon."
  •  “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
And my own personal favorite:
  • “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
Exactly.

The World Council of Church's Misplaced Priorities

It's Zionhass first--and uber alles:
The World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva claims to represent and serve 345 churches worldwide. What has it done to help the persecuted churches in Iraq, Syria and Egypt? Or the flood of Syrian refugees into Jordan and Lebanon? Answer: it has devoted the whole of 2013 to promoting a World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel (September 22-28). That is, it has poured its Swiss francs into stirring up the one corner of the area that is currently almost calm.
Easily explainable. It's far easier to try to tackle eee-ville Zionists than it is to have to deal with the Arab world's endemic Christianhass.

Pro-Assad "Syrian Electronic Army" Says It Has Hacked Obama's Facebook, Twitter Accounts

Looking on the bright side, I think Obama may have finally found the folks who can fix the be-glitched Obamacare website.

Update: In today's Obamacare song, the website with all the snafus sings:

I'm down again.
You frown again.
Obamaniks look like a clown again.
Beglitched, bungled and boondoggled
Am I.

I'm s'posed to work
Without a quirk.
Obamacare, swear, is a wondrous perk.
Beglitched, bungled and boondoggled
Am I.

Cost a lot,
So what of it?
It's a bust?
No, not true.
Ev'ryone has to love it,
And the last laugh's on you.

Exchanges here.
(Derangement here.)
And most of all, doll,
Hope'n'change is here.
Beglitched, bungled and boondoggled
Am I.

As a Canadian, I'd Like to Thank President Obama for Obamacare!

It has made Canada's socialized health care system, with all its inherent "glitches," seem relatively sane and beneficent when compared to the madness that you and your retinue of well-intentioned central planners have foisted on the U.S.

On the 10th Aniversary of Jihad Watch, Robert Spencer Explains Why His Website Is Still Needed

The anti-jihadist/exposer of the Islamist agenda writes:
Their Big Lie is designed to obscure the Islamic motivations behind jihad terror, and to disarm resistance to jihad and Islamic supremacism, by blaring the Big Lie everywhere.  But there is one thing they will not do and could not do even if they wanted to: they will not stop jihad terror attacks committed in the name of Islam. They will not stop people from waving Qur’ans and shouting “Allahu akbar” before cold-bloodedly murdering innocent people, including children.
That is why their campaign, for all the money behind it, is doomed to fail: they will never be able to stop people from seeing that there is something violent, something supremacist, something that needs to be reformed and rejected from within Islam, but that Muslim organizations are dissembling about instead of confronting. Every day the truth comes out, somewhere, in the form of mangled bodies, terrified children, and horrified bystanders suddenly awakening to reality as they make their way on a ground slippery with blood. Every day people die not because of “Islamophobia,” but because of Islamic jihad. And every day, media and government elites cover for that jihad and do everything they can to shift the focus away from the real cause of the violence.
That’s why Jihad Watch remains necessary.
Happy 10th, Robert! Any many, many more.

Satan the Zionist Reigns at York University!

When Blogwrath went to hear a speaker at York University yesterday, he saw an official-looking press release plastered all over the joint. Actually, it wasn't a genuine communiqué. It was a revolting piece of satirical Zionhass supposedly penned in homage to that great Jewish philanthropist, Satan. It reads, in part:
“Satan has donated $25 million to York University and is being celebrated at the Schulich School of Business with his name on the Donor’s List on Monday.
“I was so pleased to see my good work being continued at York,” said Satan. “The administration’s outstanding efforts to exploit contract workers by introducing more teaching stream appointments, their investments in military corporations, their eradication of frivolous rights as free speech, and their unwavering support for Israeli apartheid are consistent with my vision as one of the world’s great philanthropists."
That's right. Hades' Big Kahuna is a filthy (rich) Jew who supports Israeli apartheid!

Who knew?

Of course, saying so isn't the least bit hateful, because it targets Zionists, not Jewry. And everyone in the know knows that Zionists are the quintessence of evil and, yes, Satanic, while those who oppose them are good and fair and brave and pure and true.

And any resemblance between that and Medieval Jew-hate/blood libel, or, for that matter, the sorts of things the Nazis said, is strictly coincidental. ;)

Politically Correct Londoners Sign Pro-Clitorectomy Petition

Proving that one woman's horrifying brush with misogynistic savagery is another (politically correct, usefully idiotic) person's exotic but perfectly reasonable cultural practice.

Mental Health Crisis at OCAD

In what broadly speaking sounds like a dog-bites-man story, there's a report that university students attracted to a career as an artist are extremely sensitive and therefore don't handle stress all that well:
The National Collegiate Health Assessment research has measured that stress. It surveys university students across North America. It found that 66 per cent of OCAD students said they'd felt hopeless at some point in the past 12 months. Fifteen per cent said they'd seriously considered suicide.
Yikes. Hope they don't go and do anything too drastic.

"Where is the Suspect From? What is His Name?"

Dunno. Such questions are unasked and go unanswered in this and every other news report about a chap whose "suspicious" package (it wasn't a bomb per se but seemed to include the fixings for a bomb) shut down Montreal's airport yesterday.

Update: "The man has a criminal record. His past convictions are not related to terrorism." Good to know. But where is he from? What is his name?

Update: His name is Antony Piazza. Of course, that's not the name he was born with:
Piazza, born Houshang Nazemi, legally changed his name in 1986.
His lawyer said that Piazza was sentenced to 10 years for drug trafficking in 1985, under his former name.
No surprise, police are completely flummoxed by the former Houshang's antics:
"This is still a mystery for us. Why was he doing that?" he said.
You got me, officer. I have a feeling, though, it has nada to do with anything Italian.

Update: Ex-Houshang's lawyer says his client "was holding the carry-on bag for someone else."

Meet the Founder of Sabeel. He's an "Ecumenical" Zion-Loather

Gotta love how he gives traditional anti-Jewish tropes a zingy anti-Zionism update:
TORONTO - To most Israelis and most of the world’s Jews, Rev. Dr. Naim Ateek wields a theological cudgel that threatens their very existence.
Ateek is the Anglican founder of the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre in Jerusalem and a leading exponent of campaigns of boycott, divestment and sanctions aimed at Israel. He has called the establishment of Israel in 1948 “a relapse to the most primitive concepts of an exclusive, tribal God.” He has accused the Israeli government of crucifying Palestinians in the occupied territories, writing that “the Israeli government crucifixion system is operating daily.” He has compared Israel to the Nazis and accused Israel of committing a Holocaust against Palestinians. He sent out a Christmas message that likened Israel to Herod and the occupation to the slaughter of the innocents.
When Canada’s former foreign affairs minister Jason Kenney went to Israel to accuse the Canadian ecumenical social justice coalition KAIROS of anti-Semitism in 2009 it was because KAIROS supports Sabeel. When the Canadian Jewish Congress suspended Christian-Jewish dialogue in 2005 it was because Anglican and United Church groups had participated in a Sabeel conference advocating sanctions against Israel.
Who better to comment on Sabeel than Mr.--or rather, Rabbi--Interfaithinesss himself, Baruch Frydman-Kohl? (You may recall him in his guise as the head of the Toronto board of Rabbis which condemned a talk in these parts by Pamela Geller). What say you, Baruch?
“Sabeel has actually been very negative toward Israel,” Toronto Rabbi Baruch Frydman-Kohl told The Catholic Register. “Its theology has not been a theology that has encouraged dialogue but a theology that has ignored Jewish history in the land of Israel. It’s a theology that paints Israelis as terrible oppressors. We’re all in this together. The Palestinians and the Israelis have each contributed to this. They have to get out of the blame-the-other mode and into how do we find ways to work together.”
How very, er, inclusive. Alas, Ateek seems to be stuck in that blame-the-Jooos-exclusively mode:
Ateek isn’t backing down. Using a Christmas message to accuse Israel of a Herod-like slaughter was the right thing to do at the time, he said.
Maybe Ateek should accompany Baruch and Co. on their next "Abe, Our Common Patriarch" visit to the Holy Land. It seems to do wonders for local pass-the-tasty-samosas types looking to ignore the fact that the Koran is substantially structured as a polemic against the Jews transcend that pesky blame game.

A Speedy Victory for Toronto Mosque Mural Assured Courtesy Gullible Infidel Officials and Disingenuous "Experts"

There's a mural painted on the outside of a Toronto mosque--and paid for with city funds no less--that quotes a famous line from the Koran. The line, and mural, read (in Arabic): "Help from Allah (is near) and a speedy victory (is assured)." Don't worry, though. This message, which seems to be a call for the faithful to wage jihad, and which continues to inspire holy warriors around the world, can be interpreted in a number of ways.

Who sez so? Why, one of those wonderfully helpful "experts," of course:
Tarek Fatah, a Toronto Sun columnist and founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, complained about the mural to Councillor Paula Fletcher, sparking the review by city officials.
[Toronto City Manager Joe] Pennachetti wrote to Fatah on Friday, saying that the city’s office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights was involved in the review and that the mural’s creator and Islamic law expert Anver Emon, a professor at University of Toronto, were consulted.
“We are satisfied with the responses that have been provided during our preliminary inquiries into your concerns and do not believe that the mural is contrary to City policy or Canadian law,” writes Pennachetti.
“There are various ways by which to determine what these words mean,” wrote Emon in his assessment of the mural. “Can they be made to valorize militancy? Sure. Can they be a source of comfort for people suffering economic hardship as they struggle to feed their children? Sure.”
Is Joe Pennachetti one of those "useful idiots"? Sure.

Is the head of Toronto's office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights a Zion-loathing Islamist named Uzma Shakir? Sure.

Oh, and Islamic law expert Anver Emon--he claims that those dhimmi rules are subject to interpretation, too, and he interprets them as being "tolerant" and "pluralistic." Which tells you pretty much everything you need to know about his pro-sharia worldview.

Ceeb Pundit Neil Macdonald: Obama as a "Big Spender" Is a "Myth"

Not only that, it's a meme, too. And just because Obama's the prez who threw away kajillions on non-stimulating stimuli and on whose watch the national debt has gone stratospheric (unlike Obama's NASA, it's now halfway to Mars), that doesn't mean that the man in the Oval Office is to blame. (Teflon BHO is never to blame for anything, ever: not for Fast and Furious, or Benghazi, or the NSA scandal, or the IRS scandal, or the Obamacare rollout fiasco, or anything else that may happen to arise during the remainder of his historic presidency.)

That's the sort of "reasoning" that gets people working in the private sector fired--and pundits working for Canada's taxpayer-funded national broadcaster a big fat raise.

Hey, Macdonald, this one's for you:

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)

The only song to ever make it into a Canadian "human rights" complaint.

Oooo. Scary

The Harper endgame is the replacement of the onetime Liberal culture with a conservative one — that can’t be dismantled

As if. So far this covert agenda has yet to manifest itself in any substantial way. And since time appears to be running out for the Harper Tories, they'd better get cracking if they want their undismantle-able culture conspiracy to bear fruit.

Jack Straw, Tony Blair's FM, Reveals Himself to Be Thoroughly Deranged Zion-Loather

The Straw man sez rich Joooos control American foreign policy and therefore impede the blossoming of peace in the Middle East.

Get thee to a rubber room, Jack, as soon as is humanly possible.

No Woman, No Drive

In a video that's gone viral, a Wahhabi traditionalist who, go figure, is a Bob Marley fan, makes a tuneful plea for chicks to accept the status quo. I.e.: keep away from the steering wheel since your "ova-ovaries" are safer in the back.

UN Set to Issue Righteous Smackdown to U.S. for Unbridled NSA Surveillance

In the wake of embarrassing disclosures about the NSA spying on American allies (including Angela Merkel), the UN is preparing to do what it does best--tackle an identified problem via high-toned yet ultimately vapid mumbo-jumbo:
The draft [of the resolution] appears designed to provide oversight of those types of incursions -- as well as surveillance incursions of average citizens worldwide. It requests that the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights report to the U.N. General Assembly twice in the next two years on "human rights and indiscriminate surveillance" with "views and recommendations" aimed at "identifying and clarifying principles, standards and best practices on the implications for human rights of indiscriminate surveillance."
I'm not sure that indiscriminate NSA spying is a good thing, but I do know that the UN "human rights" body is nest of Zion-loathing vipers, and the UN in general, dominated as it is by the thugs and despots, many of them members of the OIC, is both a morass and a joke.

The Rank Hypocrisy of Micmaq Anti-Frackers

Lorrie Goldstein sums up the current anti-fracking agita in N.B.:
What’s really going on in New Brunswick is environmental extremism hiding behind the cloak of aboriginal rights and violence by a minority of protesters.
It’s the same old anti-Western, anti-capitalist, anti-development, anti-growth, anti-progress, anti-human nonsense we’ve been hearing from radical environmentalists for decades, many of whom consider themselves above the law and better than the rest of us.
These are the same hypocrites who take the benefits of modern technology for granted — the cellphones and computers they use to co-ordinate their protests and riots wouldn’t exist without fossil fuel energy — while denouncing every conceivable means we have to create and transport energy.
So true. All will be well, though, once Natives score that "genocide" designation (because not having it is what's been holding them back, supposedly).

Zion-Loather Alex Neve of Amnesty International Castigates Canada for Reaching Some Imaginary "Human Rights" Tipping Point

Man, is he ever steamed:
In his speech, given at Zion United Church as part of Amnesty’s second annual Saskatchewan Regional Conference, Neve issued a scathing indictment of Canada’s recent track record on human rights.
He spoke of the unfolding situation with Omar Khadr.
He spoke of Canada’s refusal to sign or ratify with the UN’s treaty to crack down on the illegal arms trade — a treaty the United States has signed.
He spoke of the federal government’s continued resistance to instituting a “national action plan” responding to violence against indigenous women.
“It’s almost as if the longer the list of authoritative voices calling for Canada to do this becomes, the more insistent and defiant we are that we will not do so,” he said. “(But) I am increasingly convinced we are reaching a tipping point on this.”
If Khadr-champion Neve thinks we're on the wrong track, we must be doing something right. Soon enough, though, once future former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's in charge, all will revert to the way we were.

The Madness of UNRWA and Its EU Sponsors Exemplified by Winners of Its Photo/Film Contest

Two of the winners come from two different Palestinian refugee camps in Gaza (a Judenrein Palestinian territory wholly run by Palestinians: "Refugees" in your own domain? How does that work exactly?). The other winner lives in a refugee camp near Tripoli, Lebanon. (That camp is populated by Palestinians whose parents or grandparents became refugees following Israel's creation, in 1948. It is Lebanon's--and the Arab world's--shame that these refugees have been held in these camps and have not been absorbed/embraced by their Arab brothers.)

"Long Road to Getting Ban Relaxed on Saudi Women Drivers"

Other metaphors that spring to mind: Drive Is On to Get Saudi Chicks Behind the Wheel; Campaign to Persuade Wahhabis to Let Chicks Drive is Stuck in Neutral; and, Status Quo Maintained as Radical Islamist Men Remain in the Drivers' Seat.

During a Concert in Israel, Did Rihanna Change a Line in a Song to Show Solidarity With Palestinians?

CAMERA tries to get to the root of the issue:
Cyberspace has been abuzz in the aftermath of what the popular singer Rihanna said — or didn't say — during her concert in Israel two days ago. According to a story that spread online, catching the attention of both anti-Israel and pro-Israel web surfers, Rihanna replaced the lyrics “All I see is dollar signs” from her song “Pour it Up” with the words, “All I see is Palestine.”
The pro-Palestinian gesture was carefully recorded by pro-Palestinian websites and blogs, accompanied by declarations  about how “it seems Rihanna's heart is in one place - Palestine.” But her wordplay was also noted by mainstream sites like Huffington Post and Buzzfeed
In no time at all, Rihanna was transformed into the latest heroine of the anti-Israel community, the great warrior against Israeli “apartheid”...
The truth is that she did not change the line, and the belief that it has been seems to be a function of Israeli-self loathing as exemplified by self-loathing lefty rag Haaretz.

Update: In other RiRi news, the singer got in trouble posing a fashion shoot outside an Abu Dhabi mosque. (I can't think why. She was wearing what looked like one of those ultra-modest burkini thingys.

Turkey Time: The Latest Plan to Get Obamacare's Clunker of a Website Up and Running Is to Get a Clunker-Fixer to Fix It

Sounds like a plan to moi. That last word, in case you were wondering, is in ironic homage to CGI, the clunker-creating Quebec tech firm which, had the Obama team bothered to conduct due diligence, would have been revealed to be behind some dubious enterprises (including the then-Liberal government's dubious and dumbass "long gun registry" scheme; we were told it would cost peanuts but it ended up costing a queen's ransom). Re the Quebec-based clunker component, Mark Steyn has a few choice words:
CGI is not a creative free spirit from Jersey City with an impressive mastery of Twitter, but a Canadian corporate behemoth. Indeed, CGI is so Canadian their name is French: Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique. Their most famous government project was for the Canadian Firearms Registry. The registry was estimated to cost in total $119 million, which would be offset by $117 million in fees. That’s a net cost of $2 million. Instead, by 2004 the CBC (Canada’s PBS) was reporting costs of some $2 billion — or a thousand times more expensive.
Yeah, yeah, I know, we’ve all had bathroom remodelers like that. But in this case the database had to register some 7 million long guns belonging to some two-and-a-half to three million Canadians. That works out to almost $300 per gun — or somewhat higher than the original estimate for processing a firearm registration of $4.60. Of those $300 gun registrations, Canada’s auditor general reported to parliament that much of the information was either duplicated or wrong in respect to basic information such as names and addresses.
I dunno. Were I an Obama factotum casing around for the perfect techies to design the uber-complicated website whose success or failure might be the difference between an Obamacare that was acceptably non-functional, and one that, having seized up entirely, was bound for the landfill of failed historical experiments--hello, Prohibition!--I think I might have been inclined to give CGI a pass.

For those inclined to blame Canada--or at least Quebec--for the mess, I suggest you hold off. CGI, after all, had a shot at making a fortune, and who in their right mind would balk at that? No, it is more fitting to blame those for whom "long gun registry debacle" has no resonance, since it occurred in a country far, far away. That they willingly hitched Obama's signature and transformational piece of legislation to be these turkeys amounts to an epic fail on their part.

The take-home here: hitch your wagon to a turkey and there's no way that bird'll  fly.

Or dindon, as they say in Quebec.

CGI says, "We do not want to be the turkeys of the farce."

Ontario Brings In Sweeping Reforms to Protect Animals

Great. (Not really, since it amounts to spending mega-millions for more regulations.)

Guess this means Premier "Kitty" Wynne has the cat and porpoise vote locked up.

Coming Soon: An Order of Canada for John Greyson and Tarek Loubani?

It's not outside the realm of possibility. After all, Mohamed Azar Ali Khan has one, and he wrote this:
West Bank Palestinians and Gazans have been under occupation since 1967. There have been numerous negotiations. But Israel keeps violating both United Nations resolutions and international law. It continues to build illegal settlements.
Half a million illegal Israeli settlers live in occupied territories, subsidized by the state; harassing Palestinians. They are protected by Israeli forces and roads have been built for their exclusive use. Israel is building a massive wall that goes well beyond the 1967 borders and grabs more of the already fractured Palestinian land. Palestinians are arrested at will of the Israeli army and detained indefinitely without charges. Numerous checkpoints control their movements disrupting their everyday lives. Gaza is kept under a strict siege. There is no evidence that the Likud government has any interest in a just peace.
The U.S. response is to provide billions of dollars annually in military and economic aid and supply intelligence, diplomatic and other assistance that enables the Israelis to defy the UN, control the Palestinians and dictate to their neighbors.
Israeli leaders are now threatening to attack Iran if it continues its nuclear program. The U.S. response is to assert that Israel has the right to do whatever it wants to ensure Israel’s security, and that the U.S. will support it fully. It is apparently within Israel discretion to determine who or what it sees as a threat.
Specialists agree that even if Iran wishes to build nuclear weapons it won't have that capacity for at least one year. That said, Israel and the U.S. have the capability to down any missile or plane heading towards Israel. And there is no credible evidence that Israel faces a military threat from Iran or elsewhere. Nevertheless it is targeting Iranian scientists and may launch a full attack on Iran with U.S. weaponry...
Yesterday, in a Saudi Gazette article claiming that Canadian Muslims "live under a shadow," Khan had this to say:
The third factor is the Islamophobia among some of the media, politicians and academics. They are not interested in a rational dialogue. Their aim is to vilify Islam and portray Muslims as evil and a threat to Canada and to Western civilization. They propagate lies incessantly –that Islam orders Muslims to kill infidels (non-Muslims), that Muslims seek to impose Shariah on all Canadians, that Muslims immigrated to Canada to take control of the West, that Muslim organizations condone the attempted terror and that Muslim religious schools instill hatred of non-Muslims in gullible students.

Since 9/11 Islamophobes have worked overtime to blame Islam and all Muslims. They attribute the actions of a few Muslims attacks - which were universally condemned by Muslim scholars and leaders - not to their grievances over the killing, maiming and displacement of Muslims by the US and US-supported and financed attacks, but rather to Muslims’ jealousy and hatred of the West.

Canadians being an open-minded and friendly people, Canadian Islamophobes are having only limited success. So anti-Muslim speakers from the US, such as Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, leaders of the Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), come to Canada to spread their venom. They were denied entry by the United Kingdom.
I repeat: the gentleman who is spreading such lies (Geller and Spencer are not anti-Muslim; they're pro-freedom and anti-jihad and sharia) and who, as a true believer, will not acknowledge the truth about his faith's jihad imperative, is the recipient of Canada's highest, most prestigious civilian honour.

John, Tarek, your O of Cs are a shoe-in!

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Was Prescribing "Sweat Lodge" Therapy? Seriously?

Why yes; yes it was. And the Toronto Star's Joe Fiorito is p.o.'d that the "burn with Vern" option has now been nixed:
Vern Harper is an aboriginal urban elder; for the past ten years or so, he has worked at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, helping native people who suffer from alcohol or drug addictions. But Vern hasn’t worked at CAMH for months.
He said, “They told me they were sailing in a different direction.” When I called, a spokesperson for CAMH said Vern is still on staff as a casual employee, and they have taken on two other elders and are offering additional services, based on client feedback.
That may be, but Vern hasn’t worked since April; sounds to me like he’s been dumped and that’s between him and them.
But I was curious to know why Vern was doing that sort of work in the first place. He said, “I was deprived of my culture, growing up. I want to keep our men and women out of prison and to work with our youth so they don’t go into prison.”
In essence, he has been trying to counter the cultural isolation many native people feel. How? In addition to working with people at CAMH he said, “I have a sweat lodge in Guelph. I’m an unusual lodge keeper; there are lodges for women, and lodges for men; mine is for families.”
That’s both modern, and apt; periodically, he would bring people to his lodge as a way of reintroducing them to their culture.
The purpose of the sweat lodge? “You sweat the poison out of your body. You purge spiritually, mentally and physically."...
Whadya know? Jews have a sort of sweat lodge, too. It's called "the shvitz." But I don't think it has ever been prescribed as a cure for addiction. ;)
