At a vigil, a woman recited the Surah al Fatihah from the Quran, the Muslim holy book’s preface that asks Allah’s help in living righteously. Here's a verse which, thoughtfully but perhaps somewhat duplicitously, she did not intone:
Surah al Fatiha recited at Toronto vigil for victims of #OrlandoNightclubShooting:pic.twitter.com/XGa0QtY9ls
“Guide us on the straight path, the path of those who have received your grace,” goes the verse. “Not the path of those who have brought down wrath, nor of those who wander astray.”
Quran (7:80-84) - "...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)" - An account that is borrowed from the Biblical story of Sodom. Muslim scholars through the centuries have interpreted the "rain of stones" on the town as meaning that homosexuals should be stoned, since no other reason is given for the people's destruction. (The story is also repeated in suras 27 and29).Notice that while the account has been borrowed from the Biblical story of Sodom, fundamentalist Jews aren't executing gays a la ISIS, Hamas and Mateen.
Update: Why is the Left so intent on ignoring the jihad inherent in Mateen's bloodbath? Why are they blaming it on--what else?--"guns"? Robert Spencer nails it with this:
The Left has chosen to protect Islam at all costs, even at the expense of its other victim groups. In other words, Islam trumps gays (except, of course, if you're Trump). (Not that Trump's call for a "temporary ban" on letting Muslims into the U.S. is the answer. As the example of Omar Mateen, a jihadi who was born in New York City, demonstrates, the bad guys are already here.)
Update: "Dr." Roger L. Simon psychoanalyzes Barack "It Wuz Da Gunz" Obama:
No, Obama's refusal to name radical Islam stems from two closely entwined factors—an enduring distaste for American power and deep personal shame (not that buried, but buried enough) of his own profound childhood connection to Islam. Not to get too psychoanalytic, to Obama, if there is something wrong with Islam, there is something wrong with him. Better to think there is something wrong with us.That's mostly on the mark, but I think that, rather than being ashamed of his childhood connection to Islam, Obama is immensely proud of it. Hence his obvious affection for the faith, the same one practiced by his absent and adored daddy.
That said, there is something wrong with him: he's as narcissistic as he is utterly and incurably clueless.
Update: Not that our leaders are any more clued in than Obama (my bolds):
LGBT leaders, politicians and members of the public came together Sunday at a candlelight vigil in the heart of the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood to pay tribute to the victims of a mass shooting at an Orlando gay bar that left 50 people dead and dozens more wounded.
“What happened in Orlando happened to all of us,” Premier Kathleen Wynne told the crowd.
She said the shooting answers the question that is sometimes asked as to why Pride activities are still necessary.
She also said that whatever the motive behind the shooting, the suspected gunman does not speak for his religion.
“What we know is that homophobia cannot be fought with Islamophobia,” Wynne said.
Mayor John Tory also spoke at the vigil and sounded a similar note.
“This kind of hate-filled act has no place in the world. Love can conquer all,” Tory said. “It (the massacre) must not be placed at the hands of any particular faith or any particular group. This represents no one, this represents no set of values, this represents no faith.”To recap their clueless message: "There's no jihad/ Islamic supremacism to see here, folks. Y'all best move along now, 'kay?" (FYI and BTW, the vigil was held at the "Barbara Hall Park." Hall, as you may recall, used to head up Ontario's deranged "human rights" commission, and, in her capacity as chief commissar/champion of victim groups and their special status, was far more concerned about Mark Steyn's "Islamophobia" than she was about preserving free speech, the linchpin of a free society. Holding a vigil for gays massacred by a jihadi in a park named for Babs is thus risible in an especially grim way.)
Update: This is the (likely unpublishable) letter I sent to the NatPo in response to this article:
Let me get this straight: Prior to opening fire at a gay nightclub, a jihadi gunman calls 911 to inform authorities that he pledges allegiance to ISIS, an organization that executes gays by beheading them or hurling them off buildings, and the only thing mealy-mouthed leaders like Premier Kathleen Wynne have to say about it is that "horrible things" occur in this world and that we can't fight homophobia with "Islamophobia"?
Maybe we can't, but we can fight homophobia, at least in part, by acknowledging the homophobic passages in Islam's sacred texts, the ones that got ISIS-fan Omar Mateen so hot and bothered. Sadly for us, however, there appears to be no one in a position of authority who possesses the insight and the courage to speak that truth.
From the NaPo article you referenced:
ReplyDeleteThe event was organized by the Toronto chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an LGBT rights awareness group who raised funds for their non-profit affiliate in Orlando. Founded in San Francisco in 1979, members of the group dress as nuns, parodying Catholic iconography and use social performance to draw attention to issues.
So its OK to parody the Catholic faith without worrying about Catholicophobia.
But even with this abuse I don't see Catholics murdering bar-fulls of gays.
