Love Me, Love My Veil

Zainab Bint Younas is a chick who describes herself as a "Salafi feminist," an oxymoron on the order of "jumbo shrimp." She also takes umbrage at a Jonathan Kay piece, and demands in no uncertain terms that he stop presuming to speak for her and other Muslimas who adore masking their faces (whether via the niqab or the burqa) in public.

Here's the letter I just dashed off re Ms. Bint Younas's rant:
Zainab Bint Younas chooses to see her niqab as a symbol of her empowerment as a strong Muslim woman; indeed, on her website, she bills herself as a Salafist Feminist. And yet, it seems clear to those who do not share her beliefs that her self-description is an oxymoron. For, to be a Salafist is to subscribe to one of the most rigid forms of Islam, one which grants women as second-class status and which allows their husbands to punish them physically for, say, refusing to have sexual relations on demand. To be a feminist, on the other hand, is to reject male chauvinism (and Salafists are nothing if not that), to insist on equality before the law and in the eyes of society, and to make one's own choices without being subject to the approval of one's husband and other close male family members.

Thus, putting a Ms. in front of her name does not make Bint Younas a feminist. And covering her face such that nothing shows saves her eyes is certainly not feminist in any way that makes sense to those who cherish Western freedoms. In fact, Ms. Bint Younas's assertions to the contrary, it is possible to see her as someone who is suffering from a form of Stockholm Syndrome in that she identifies with an Islamic symbol of oppression--a facial covering that, rather than "liberating" her, renders her a nullity, a void, a blank.

The niqab champion may have convinced herself that her facial covering amounts to a sort of "in your face" activism. To me, however, it looks like she's bought into a particularly regressive and repressive ideology that conflicts with Canadian values of freedom and equality.

Why Won't Arabs Recognize Israel's Jewishness? It's the Islam, Stupid

This guy gets it:
The explanation for the Arab position lies, I believe, in the traditional Arab-Muslim view of Jews as an inferior dhimmi people, a millet [see below] devoid of national rights, and only entitled to live if they pay a yearly head tax on dhimmis called the jizya. The dhimma system applied to all non-Muslims who were subjects of the Islamic state, with individual exceptions. Within this system, the Jews were at the bottom of the barrel, at least in the Fertile Crescent countries, including the Levant, where the Jews’ status was inferior to that of their fellow dhimmis, the Christians.
Whereas the Quran and medieval Arab historiography, such as the the writings of Ibn Khaldun, recognize the Jews as a nation or people, the entrenched Islamic view of Jews as an evil, inferior contemptible millet is now dominant. Moreover, in fact, in practice, that was the actual status of Jews in the Arab-Muslim countries for centuries. Even today in the 21st century Muslims believe that Jews do not deserve the dignity of having a national state of their own, the Quran and the old Arab historians notwithstanding.
This contemptuous view of Jews is clearly stated by the PLO in its charter. Article 20, already denies that the Jews are a people, claiming that they are merely a “religious” group. Jewish tradition holds that the Jews are both a people and a religious group. Here is the relevant text of Art. 20:
“The claim of historical or religious ties between Jews and Palestine does not tally with historical realities nor with the constituents of statehood in their true sense. Judaism in its character as a religion is not a nationality with an independent existence. Likewise the Jews are not one people with an independent identity. They are rather citizens of the states to which they belong.”

Zany Local Khomeinist Zafar Bangash Delighted to Report Rapprochment Between Ayatollahville and Hamas

And, no, this is not an April Fool's Day joke, though it indeed sounds like one:
Relations between Islamic Iran and Hamas are back on track after a hiatus caused by Hamas’ rash decision to burn its bridges with Damascus following eruption of the imperialist-zionist-Wahhabi inspired conspiracy in Syria.
Please note that Zaffy so loathes the Zionists that he's not even willing to dignify them with a capital "Z".

Think I'll call him zafar from now on.

Kerry's Dromedary

$400,000 to put a camel sculpture in front of the American embassy in Islamabad?

If they had to spend that much money, wouldn't an elephant (which, unlike a camel, is native to those parts) have made more sense?

Ironically enough, this U.S. taxpayer-funded camel
is a white elephant.

Abbas Pulls a Fast One, Bypasses Kerry's "Peace Process"

Why bother with Kerry and the Jooos when you can appeal to an "international community" that's already on your side?

The FINAL Final Solution

It's Iran's. For Israel.

Textbooks in Saudi Arabia Still Pushing the Same Old "Apes 'n' Pigs" Shite

The Wahhabis had promised to clean up their act re teaching Jew-hate, but--surprise, surprise!--haven't followed through:
In the wake of the 9/11 attacks attention was focused on the hatred young Saudis learn at school for Christians and Jews. There was a tremendous amount of official pressure put on the Saudi government—the al-Saud family—to edit out the offending passages in school books.
While there has been some progress in bringing a degree of tolerance to Saudi textbooks, many still have passages like one twelfth grade monotheism book that claims God made Jews out “of swine and apes.”
The same book describes Christians and Jews as “the worst of creatures” who “will dwell in hellfire,” according to a report by Dr. David Weinberg, senior fellow at Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
Weinberg said the problem with Saudi textbooks is a long standing one. For more than a decade, the Saudi government has been saying they are fixing the problem, he pointed out, “Where’s the progress?”
Er, how can there be "progress" when the Jews-are-animals trope is part and parcel of another book--the Koran?

"Hooky" Hamza's Trial Set to Begin in the U.S. on the 14th

It took only 12 years to reach this point, but better late than never, eh?

Taqiyyah--What a Concept!

Too bad Kerry and Obama don't understand it. If they did, they would know that their "peace process" is nothing more than a Palestinian passel of lies--with a purpose:
Before he met with the American president last week, Mahmoud Abbas told Fatah's Revolutionary Council in Ramallah that he would not recognize Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, would not waive the so-called "right of return" of the Palestinian refugees, and would not abandon the idea of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine." An Abbas confidante and member of Fatah's Central Committee, appearing on official Palestinian Authority television, revealed the true Palestinian intentions for the Jews during that conference. Abbas Zaki promised that "Allah will gather all the Jews together so that the Palestinians can destroy them."
All the Palestinians' fabricated religious, moral and historical demands on the land of Israel and Jerusalem are based on Islam's permission to lie to the enemy, considered "legitimate" because their ultimate objective is to destroy Israel and establish "Palestine" on its ruins. No matter the current historical revisionism, honest Palestinian scholars know that there was never a Palestinian state in the land of Israel (or anywhere else); there was never a Palestinian people until Jews started populating the land; and nothing was ever promised to them in the Qur'an. When the United Nations called for a Jewish state and an adjacent Arab state in 1947, the Arabs rejected it.
Because of stunning defeats visited upon the Palestinians whenever they attempt to destroy Israel with violence and terrorism, they have decided instead to implement Arafat's "salami plan" and destroy Israel piecemeal through fraud and deception. To that end they have recruited the gullible West to do the work, if not for them, then with them. The Palestinian demand for the so-called "right of return" is one aspect of the plan: its objective is to swamp Israel demographically, thus destroying its Jewish character and making it possible to establish the Muslim "Palestine" on its ruins.
Unfortunately, through the United Nations, the Western world willingly collaborates with the Palestinians...

Readin', Writin' and 'Ria

Toronto is home to a public school with a conveniently located mosqueteria. But over in the U.K., writes Bruce Bawer, sharia has made even more extensive inroads:
At one school, Park View, which has been praised by Prime Minister David Cameron for its purported “educational excellence, a senior teacher who publicly eulogized terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki is now in the running to become head teacher. “Extremist preachers” have addressed school assemblies; girls have been pressured to cover their hair; £70,000 was spent on loudspeakers to summon students to Friday prayer. “It felt like a faith school. Islam permeated everything,” one source “close to the investigation” told the Telegraph. “All the citizenship teaching was about being a good Muslim.” All this, mind you, at a nominally secular state school.
All this, mind you, courtesy the wussified doctrine of multiculturalism, the entry point for the spread of sharia in the West.
