"Voters will have to go with their gut about which guy has the best gut feel for navigating this world. Obama has demonstrated that he has something there. Romney has not"

Thomas L. Friedman makes what is perhaps the most asinine observation of his long and storied career as the NYT's leading pundit.

More idiotic, even, that all his Flinstones versus Jetsons bunkum.

The title of this column, BTW, is "The World We're Actually Living In." Which leads to the obvious conclusion that the world TLF's gut is actually living in isn't actually this one (the one which Obama has "navigated" onto the shoals of dhimmitude, chaos and insolvency).

Omar Has Been "Home" For But a Day and He's Already Pulling an "Arar"

The Ceeb reports that "Omar Khadr has filed a $10-million civil lawsuit against the Canadian government for its alleged role in his mistreatment."

Quel ingrate!

No doubt a slew of lawyers are already beavering away on his behalf as they look forward to the big cha-ching.

Islamic History Month Canada Off to a Great Start Courtesy Ottawa Cops

This event kicks off another fabulous month of misinformation celebration:
(Ottawa)- In partnership with the Islamic History Month Committee, the Ottawa Police Service will celebrate Islamic History Month and display a banner at Ottawa Police headquarters, 474 Elgin St., on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The banner will commemorate Islamic History Month and will be on display until Thursday November 1, 2012. Light refreshments will be served. Media is invited to attend.

About Islamic History Month Canada

Islamic History Month Canada aims at celebrating Muslim contributions to civilization, old and new, encouraging Muslim integration in Canadian society, and inspiring dialogue and introspection among all groups in Canada through a range of events such as a multicultural exhibition, public lectures, panel discussions, film showings at Ottawa Public libraries, and other complementary activities.

The project was launched in October 2007 and gained the House of Commons' support as they proclaimed October Islamic History Month across all Canada.

More information can be obtained through the official website:
http://www.islamichistorymonth.com/

For more information about the flag and banner program, please contact Zoye Coburn, Trainer and Outreach Worker, Diversity & Race Relations Section, 613-236-1222, Ext. 5011.
Dear Zoye: How does this sort of "diversity" grab you?

With Omar Back "Home," Khadrs Hunker Down in Family Abode Along With...Balloon Animals?

From the Toronto Star:
At the Scarborough highrise where several members of the Khadr family live, there were plenty of television crews and children with balloon animals, but no Khadrs speaking publicly about their relative’s return to Canada.
Several residents of the Kennedy Road apartment pointed to a unit that used to have a banner outside that read “Get Khadr back.” On Saturday, it was not visible. Earlier in September, building residents say, there was a demonstration outside relating to the controversial 26-year-old.
When reporters knocked at the door of the unit believed to belong to the family, the music was turned up inside. Repeated requests for comment went unanswered...
Okay, I'll bite: "Children with balloon animals"? Explanation, please.

Update: This Toronto Star editorial contends that the onus is on the Canadian government to figure out how to, er, fix Omar:
Rather than try to build a case that Khadr now needs to spend six more years behind bars, Canadian officials should come up with a plan to help Khadr rehabilitate himself, and ring down the curtain on this infamous spectacle.
Short of performing a frontal lobotomy on him, I can't think of any way Canadians could possibly "rehabilitate" the hardened jihadi. (The balloon animals are the perfect accompaniment for this nutty idea, since it, like they, are full of hot, stale air.)

Muslim, Ahem, Protesters Go On Anti-Buddhist Rampage in Bangladesh

As per usual, Reuters calls them "protests." As we know, however, they're really jihadi pogroms:
COX'S BAZAR, Bangladesh (Reuters) - Hundreds of Muslims in Bangladesh burned at least four Buddhist temples and 15 homes of Buddhists on Sunday after complaining that a Buddhist man had insulted Islam, police and residents said.
Members of the Buddhist minority in the Cox's Bazar area in the southeast of the country said unidentified people were bent on upsetting peaceful relations between Muslims and Buddhists.
Muslims took to the streets in the area late on Saturday to protest against what they said was a photograph posted on Facebook that insulted Islam.
The protesters said the picture had been posted by a Buddhist and they marched to Buddhist villages and set fire to temples and houses.
Police said they had deployed extra security forces and banned gatherings in Buddhist-dominated areas.
"We brought the situation under control before dawn and imposed restrictions on public gatherings," said Salim Mohammad Jahangir, Cox's Bazar district police superintendent.
Many people in predominantly Muslim Bangladesh have been angered in recent days by a film made in California that mocks the Prophet Mohammad...

TDSB "Lesson" For the Canadian Islamic Congress's Islamic History Month Canada: Natually, There IS No Israel

I found this info about "the State of Palestine" (capital: "Al Quds") via this link on the Toronto District School Board site:

Location and Geography

Palestine is one of the most ancient regions in the Middle East. It is located in southwest Asia between 290 30? and 330 15? lines of latitude north of the equator and 340 15? and 350 40? lines of longitude east of Greenwich line. Natural Palestine refers to the region bounded in the west by the Mediterranean Sea, east by Syria and Jordan, north by Lebanon, and south by Egypt and the Gulf of Aqaba. Despite its small area, Palestine contains five clear divisions from west to east: Continental shelf, Costal (sic) plain, Palestinian mountains, Negev, Dead Sea rift (considered to be the lowest area in the world, about 400m below sea level).
Since no map of "Natural Palestine" is provided, I thought I'd supply one. Think of it as my contribution to this year's Islamic Da'wa History Month Canada.

"Natural Palestine" looks like this:

I'd Rather Read Naomi Wolfe's Vajayjay Bio Than This One

Warren K.'s overheated tome about "surviving the coming Conservative apocalypse" (no, really) has finally hit the shelves:
Everywhere you look, these days, Conservatives are winning elections. No matter where you look, the story is the same: white, angry men on the Right are winning power. The Left, meanwhile, is divided and dispirited, and rapidly losing ground. Fight the Right is a handbook on how to survive the nasty, brutish and short-sighted era in which we find ourselves and is designed to help progressives better understand their conservative adversary, and ultimately defeat conservatives wherever the battle is taking shape. It''s a manual on how conservatives have appropriated language and values, and how progressives can take both back. Written in a fun, accessible, style, Fight the Right will appeal to those about to launch an advocacy effort, as well as those who are simply curious about how (and if) the Right thinks. It is chock full of war stories and not-so-tall tales about winning progressive campaigns, from everyone from Jean Chretien to Bobby Kennedy, Jr., and it will argue--forcefully--that a United Right can''t be defeated until a United Left emerges. Wherever conservative power-brokers are hurting average citizens and hard-working families, Fight the Right will provide a tested road map on how to beat the bullies.
Those "bullies" are, like, really scary. Them and their fatwas and nukes and apocalyptic scenarios.

Oh, sorry. I got confused there for a moment. What I meant to say is those Conservative bullies are, like, really scary. Them and their principled support for Israel and cost-cutting measures. Because of them, the precipice is well within sight. (FYI, that was an example of how the Left "thinks.")

Obama Unleashes His Pitbull/Nutty-Uncle-in-the-Attic Joe Biden While Tackling an "Urgent" Problem

Loopy old Uncle Joe says pull my finger even as he accuses his Republican opponents of--wait for it--"deficit hypocrisy."

As opposed to his boss's unhypocritical spendaholism, no doubt.

Meanwhile, the POTUS, as always, has his priorities straight, much to the O-besotted media's intense delight:
You should know that President Barack Obama, who's presided over the worst national non-recovery economic recovery since before John McCain was even born, is positively delighted, even thrilled, over the contract settlement between the National Football League and its referees.

Really! It is great, isn't it? Listen over here.

Speaking on behalf of the perpetually campaigning Obama administration today, the first thing Jay Carney had to announce was that his father was from Norfolk, Virginia. But the second important exciting thing that the president's principal principal press secretary had to deliver to the world, including the 23 million Americans under- or unemployed was:

"The President is very pleased that the two sides have come together to resolve their differences and ensure that going forward, when we watch our favorite teams play in the NFL, we can focus on the players and the game rather than on the officiating. It’s a great day for America."

"A great day for America!"

The media, of course, ate it up because here's the leader of the free world commenting on one of the hottest water-cooler items since Madonna's threat to expose herself.

Malmo's Mayor a Maleficent Moron

In the wake of a bombing at a Jewish center in Malmo, the city's mayor has some words of, ahem, advice for the few Jews who remain:
Ilmar Reepalu, the mayor of Malmo, has advised Jews who want to be safe in Malmo to reject Zionism. He also has said that the Jewish community had been “infiltrated” by anti-Muslim agents and has denied that Muslims perpetrated the attacks on Malmo Jews.
I say it was done by pixies. Or gnomes.

Make No Mistake--"Forward" With Obama Means A Backward Slide Into Medieval Sharia

Mark Steyn writes:
One of the reasons why Barack Obama is regarded as the greatest orator of our age is that he's always banging on about some other age yet to come – e.g., the Future! A future of whose contours he is remarkably certain and boundlessly confident: The future will belong to nations that invest in education because the children are our future, but the future will not belong to nations that do not invest in green energy projects because solar-powered prompters are our future, and, most of all, the future will belong to people who look back at the Obama era and marvel that there was a courageous far-sighted man willing to take on the tough task of slowing the rise of the oceans because the future will belong to people on viable land masses. This futuristic shtick is a cheap'n'cheesy rhetorical device (I speak as the author of a book called "After America," whose title is less futuristic than you might think) but it seems to play well with the impressionable Obammysoxers of the press corps.
And so it was with President Obama's usual visionary, inspiring, historic, etc, address to the U.N. General Assembly the other day: "The future must not belong to those who bully women," he told the world, in a reference either to Egyptian clitoridectomists or the Republican Party, according to taste. "The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians," he added. You mean those Muslim guys? Whoa, don't jump to conclusions. "The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam," he declared, introducing to U.S. jurisprudence the novel concept of being able to slander a bloke who's been dead for getting on for a millennium-and-a-half now. If I understand correctly the cumulative vision of the speech, the future will belong to gay feminist ecumenical Muslims. You can take that to the bank. But make no mistake, as he would say, and in fact did: "We face a choice between the promise of the future or the prisons of the past, and we cannot afford to get it wrong." Because if we do, we could spend our future living in the prisons of the past, which we forgot to demolish in the present for breach of wheelchair-accessibility codes.
We have a choice between a future of ObamaCare/Obamaphones or a future of solvency; between a future of freedom or one of sharia-decreed dhimmitude.

C'est tout.

Et Tu, Ahmadi?

It is distressing though perhaps not surprising that not even the head of Ottawa's Ahmadi Muslims (the most gentle of Islamic sects, one which is horribly persecuted for its beliefs) is willing to stand up for free speech:
After weeks of violence erupted over an amateur video criticizing the Muslim faith, members of Ottawa’s Islamic community will call for an end to the violence and limits to free speech at a meeting Saturday.
“It is against the teachings of Islam to burn flags, burn property and kill people – including an ambassador,” said Imtiaz Ahmed, an Islamic missionary and community leader. “There is a fine line between freedom of speech and hurting people’s sentiments.
When we hurt people we have to draw a line on freedom of speech.”...
Ahmed reiterated that "violence is not a solution to anything," but went on to "condemn the video produced in America and the cartoons in France.” He further noted that where he comes from, Pakistan, "we can't even call ourselves Muslims."

Well, Ahmed, mightn't that be a function of Pakistan's not having free speech (the freedom that ensures all others)?

You might want to ruminate on that for a second before you go running off at the mouth and telling us to shut ours.

Here's Michael Coren on the subject of religion and free speech.

Tie an White Keffiyeh 'Round the Maple Tree--Our Homie Omie's Comin' Home!

He's comin' home, he's done his time.
Well, it seems he's unrepentant for his crime.
But Vic has seen the videos
And thinks he should return.
Alas, some foolish kafirs they don't
Never, ever learn.
And Omie they won't spurn.
So tie a white keffiyeh 'round the maple tree.
It's been ten long years
Of his "misery."
If he don't see keffiyehs 'round
Those maple trees.
He'll say, "Hell, no."
Go back to Gitmo.
Get down on his knees.
If he don't see a white keffiyeh
'Round a maple tree...

Everybody sing!

A Lesson From Canetti on Crowd-Power

Salim Mansur writes:
In Crowds and Power, the late Elias Canetti, a wonderfully gifted writer and Nobel laureate, brought a unique perspective in examining the human condition and history under the stress of mobs in politics.
When individuals gathered together turn into a crowd and then erupt into a mob, the transition from one into another is the obliteration, even momentarily, of the individual as a thinking being reduced physically into a mindless atom constituent of a mass set in motion by the wish to demonstrate power.
The crowd as mob, wrote Canetti, “wants to experience for itself the strongest possible feeling of its own animal force and passion and, as means to this end, it will use whatever social pretexts and demands offer themselves.”
The politics of the Arab-Muslim world of late — or at least since the 1979 revolution in Iran that brought clerics with a medieval mind-set to power — has been reduced to the pathology of the mob in politics.
This is not unique in history and, for instance, as it was with the pathology of mob politics during the “reign of terror” in France or the Maoist “cultural revolution” in China, the situation in the Arab-Muslim world may likely pass at some point in the future.
In the meantime, however, it should be clearly understood that there is no reasoning with mobs, and any sign of weakness in terms of appeasing mobs by acknowledging or giving in to their demands amounts to stoking their wild frenzy...
Smart man. Unlike some others I could name.

An Unexceptional/ist President Throws Israel Under the Bus

Mini-doc Perilous Times recounts the ongoing Jew-tossing/Muslim-succoring (an odious Obama two-fer). H/t: Just Me.

The Story So Far--The Guy Behind the Laughably Crappy Trailer "Innocence of Muslims" Is Not a Jew, Not a Copt, But an Arab Fraudster

The plot both thickens and sickens. Walid Shoebat says the gent in question is a criminal who's in cahoots with Walid's first cousin.

If this accusation pans out, could it be that the trailer was made by a Muslim for Muslims--that is, as a tool to get 'em all hot and bothered so they'd have an excuse to run wild?

Just Heard a Promo on Ceeb Radio for the Toronto Palestine Film Festival (TPFF)

It's a gem of a festival, gushed the film-lover, who said she always meets simply fab people every time she goes--and she goes every year. Here's the fare for this year's fete, which starts this weekend:
The 2012 festival opens with the Canadian premiere of the award winning documentary, The War Around Us, directed by Abdallah Omeish. Set in the winter of 2008, when the first Israeli bombs dropped on Gaza in Operation Cast Lead, the film follows Ayman Mohyeldin and fellow Al Jazeera journalist and friend Sherine Tadros, who found themselves the only Western reporters there to capture it. To watch the film trailer, click here.
One of the highlights of this year's festival is our special programming of Arab film: the Arab World Perspectives. This year's Arab World Perspectives spotlights and celebrates Egypt with the award winning film Microphone by Ahmad Abdalla. Completed on the eve of the remarkable youth-led revolution that ultimately ousted President Mubarak last year, Microphone captures the rarely filmed arts scene in one of Egypt's most vibrant cities. To watch the film trailer, click here.
The 2012 closing film, Habibi by Susan Youssef, is based on the Arabic folkloric story of Layla and Qays (the Arabic Romeo and Juliet), which is re-told, and filmed, in modern day Gaza. The subjects of this tragic romance are two university students studying in the West Bank whose love story is abruptly interrupted after their student visas are revoked by Israel and they are forced to return to their families in Gaza. To watch the film trailer, click here.
Er, I think I'll give 'em a pass. Too much overt Israel-bashing; not enough Gravol in the world to keep me from upchucking on fellow film-goers.

The POTUS Toes the Sharia Anti-Blasphemy Line and the Media Remain Mute? What Gives?

Diana West has some thoughts on the matter:
Who said the following: "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."
Iran's Ahmadinejad? Egypt's Morsi? Some little-known, fatwa-flinging cleric increasing the bounty on Salman Rushdie's head?
None of the above. The words are President Obama's, and he spoke them this week to the U.N. General Assembly.
No Big Media outlet reported this stunning pronouncement. It's as if Ronald Reagan addressed the National Association of Evangelicals in 1983 and the media failed to report that he used the phrase "evil empire."...
I doubt  the word "evil" is even in Obama's relativistic vocabulary. Although it is, thank God, in Stephen Harper's (who has more moral courage in his little finger than Obama has in his entire body).

Five Questions Worth Pondering About Justin Trudeau

These aren't them:

1) Justin Trudeau--WTF?

2) Pantene, Nexxus or Aussie Hair Care--which keeps his hair so silky-shiny?

3) Dad's motto: "the Just Society"; son's motto: "the Justin Society"?

4) Boxers or briefs?

5) WTF?!?

No Doubt About It--Israel Sucks at "Ethnic Cleansing"

In his speech to the UN, Mahmoud Abbas once again tried to play the "ethnic cleansing" card. Here's the truth about the so-called cleansing:
According to a projection published by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees extrapolating from UNRWA's past growth rates, by 2030, UNRWA's refugee list will expand another 70 percent to 8.5 million.[10] In fact, at the same growth rate, by 2060 there will be four times as many Palestinian refugees as there are today and twenty-five times the number registered by UNRWA in 1950—though not a single one of the original Palestinian refugees is likely still to be alive by then.

Spanish Soccer Team Makes Gilad Shalit a VIP Guest; Muslim Fans Seethe and Rage

They're such cry babies:
CAIRO – Spain’s football giant FC Barcelona has angered Muslim fans by inviting released Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit as a guest of honor to a derby game with rival Real Madrid next month.
“Gilad Shalit's invite is a new cover up of Zionist crimes under the pretense of sports,” a Gaza-based prisoners’ organization said in a statement cited by Yediot Aharonot on Thursday, September 27
“How can a dignified sports club, which calls for culture and humanity, invite a murderer and criminal like Shalit to honor and thank him?"
The football giant has extended a VIP invitation to Shalit, who was released last year after five years in captivity by Palestinian resistance group, to attend a derby match with Real Madrid on October 7.
“Barcelona is a place of unity not divisions,” the club’s vice president, Carles Vilarrubí, told reporters.
“This invitation does not indicate in any way that Barca takes a position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”...
Had Carles any stones, he would have pointed out that Shalit was in Israel when he was captured by members of Hamas, and that his kidnappers were the criminals.

By Ted, I Think He's Got It

The great Theodore Dalrymple writes re free speech and those, like a certain imam in French, who have a problem with it:
Freedom of expression requires not so much the exercise of self-control in what is said as its exercise in reaction to what is said.
Exactly. Which is why an out-of-control reaction to that which is "offensive" is an exercise of brute power, and why it can be such an effective means of curtailing--with the aim, ultimately of killing--that very freedom.

"Off to the Races"--Wasn't That a Marx Brothers Flick?

The guy in charge of our national shrine to competitive victimhood gloats about the mega-bucks that have been shaken from the pockets of gullible donors:
The group raising money for Canada's new human rights museum says it has collected $136 million in donations to date, but it still needs to raise at least $14 million more.
The Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights announced Tuesday that it has raised $6 million from the private sector in the past year, bringing the total to $136 million.
Stuart Murray, the museum's president, said what the group has achieved so far is nothing short of amazing.
"It's unprecedented. I mean, they've raised $136 million. I think that that has to be acknowledged as something that's incredible," he told reporters.
"This is unbelievable, what they've done. And because of that, this museum is going to be spectacular."
Some of the money has come from students at École Selkirk Junior High School, who have raised at least $32,000 over the last two years by auctioning off hand-crafted guitars that have been autographed by celebrities.
The national museum is already under construction at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg, and organizers have been closing in on their goal of $150 million in private donations.
"No uncertainty now at all — we are totally off to the races," said Gail Asper, the group's national campaign chair...
Off to the races? Horse feathers! We'll be paying for this misbegotten behemoth for years to come.

It Came From Outer Space

This story sounds like something from one of the loopier supermarket tabloids, the kind that's printed solely in black and white, but it's actually from National Geographic: A Buddhist statue that was once in Nazi hands (they carved a Swastika on it) turns out to be made from a meteorite that fell to Earth from the heavens.

Sigh. I'm So Old I Can Remember When "Experimenting With Vegetables" Meant a New Recipe for Ratatouille...

After blogger BCF, you should pardon the expression, spilled the beans re the TDSB's kinky vegetable tips for kids, the media picked up on it, much to the school board's embarrassment. In an effort to quell the controversy, the board has now removed the kinky link.

Props on the Prop, Bibi

For his speech at the UN, Netanyahu came equipped with an easy-to-understand bomb diagram, and deployed a marker to draw a red line at the 90% enriched uranium level, so that even the dimmest among his audience could understand where we're at vis-a-vis a nuclear locked and loaded Iran.

Compare and Contrast: Innocent Muslims Versus a Horseless Horseman

A) Innocence of Muslims

Running time: Not quite 14-minute long trailer for a movie that may or may not exist.

Shown where?: On youtube.

Production values: Laughably shoddy; like an old SCTV skit--without the frills or laughs.

Offensive part: Mocks Islam's founder mercilessly.

Muslims' reaction to it: Frenzied, incendiary, out of control, over-the-top.

B) Horseman Without a Horse

Running time: 41--count 'em, 41--episodes.

Shown where?: First shown on Egyptian TV ten years ago; revived following initial "Arab Spring" revelry.

Production values: Not up to Hollywood standards, but not too shabby either.

Offensive part: Claims Jews are engaged in plot to take over the world; dramatizes portions of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the "warrant for genocide" that inspired Hitler.

Jews' reaction to it: Anti-Defamation League issued a media release condemning it. C'est tout.

The "Cure" for Zany Khomeinists and Their Naked Zionhass Showing Up in Toronto--a Liberal Government in Ottawa?!?

That, apparently, is the claim of some, well, Liberals. Terry Glavin shoots it down post haste:
It’s a small world after all, and the Liberal party manner of steering Canada through it by way of the shallow waters of official multiculturalism is fine and clear sailing until its inevitable encounter with the thing that Canada simply isn’t big enough to “accommodate,” reasonably or otherwise. That’s the thing that was goose-stepping through the crowds last Saturday in Toronto at what was the very specific sort of public intimidation ritual that is routinely staged to enforce the ghastly theocratic discipline necessary to the enslavement of hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world.
During his sleazy but ever so carefully worded megaphone exhortations last weekend, the Khomeinist thought-police demagogue Zafar Bangash could not help but expose this eternal irreconcilability: Free people simply cannot coexist with slavery, the world is going to have to be ours or it will belong to the slavers, and no amount of interfaith dialogue or multicultural sensitivity training will matter.
The demands Bangash and his allegedly aggrieved accomplices enumerated last weekend are easily made presentable as of a happily perfect piece with Canadian multicultural propriety. Their placards last weekend even had kind words for Baby Jesus. After all, the things Bangash wants criminalized in Canada are not just words or deeds that might give offence to the contested dignities of Islamic law, but to the cherished imaginings that beset the followers of any and every faith.
It is quite true that this is not merely a demand that Canada disallow free and open debates about the stultifying, cattle-prodding theocratic mumbo-jumbo that props up the police states that Bangash and his fellow Islamists are determined to replicate the world round. It is also a demand that Canadians rescind and annul the foundation of liberalism itself: the right to mock religion, to expose its falsehoods, and to bloody well enjoy ourselves as we do so.
Somehow, it’s hard to imagine Trudeau the Younger leading liberalism’s last-ditch defences here...
No kidding. If we had to depend on Trudeau fils to reinforce our gates of Vienna, we could pretty much kiss Canada and its freedoms goodbye. Justin would be all but certain to act a la Obama--i.e. to bow and grovel in an undignified, dhimmified fashion before the chronically aggrieved.

Stick a Turnip Up Your Wazoo!

Something I was prompted to say to Toronto's loony school board upon reading that it was planning to advise the young 'uns to "experiment" sexually with vegetables.

Hey, maybe they can co-ordinate their efforts with Michelle Obama's "eat healthy" campaign. I can see the PSA slogan now: VEGGIES: GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH; GREAT FOR YOUR SEX LIFE.

Alternate slogan: "Is that a zucchini in your pants or are you just happy to see me?"

Update: Morsi adjusts his "parsnip" in public.

"Pro-Obama 'Super Pac' Uses 47% Comment to Strafe Romney"

To "strafe" him, eh? Wow, that's, like, really harsh. I suggest a pro-Romney 'super-pac' "strafe" right back by pointing out the if the country re-elects Obama it will be 100% screwed.

"I Felt Like She Would Never Be Fixed"

That's the cry, and also the rationale, of a Montreal mom, an immigrant from Afghanistan, who tried to murder her teenaged daughter for "rebelling".

Fast Easy

The Day of Atonement is nigh, and I'm signing off until it's over.

Wishing all my fellow atoners an easy fast, as they say.

This Just In--President Obama NOT a Muslim, Even Though He's Prepared to Throw Free Speech Under the Bus as a Sop to Angry Muslims

Dear President Bumps In the Road (a perfect Native American name for him, no?): If, as you opined at the UN, "the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam," then it will, in fact, belong to Islam.

Sorry to have to break it to you, but that's the way it is.

Here's Salman Rushdie, in his just released memoir, Joseph Anton, describing the pointlessness of groveling to the "offended." When British police realized, post-Khomeini fatwa, that the kerfuffle was not, as they had initially assumed, going to die down within a few days, Rushdie was told he had to do "his bit" by signing a statement of apology. If he didn't, it was made clear to him, authorities would no longer be willing to protect him:
It was an impossible task: to write something that could be received as an olive branch without giving way on what was important. The statement he [i.e. Rushdie, who throughout the memoir refers to himself, somwhat annoyingly, in the third person] came up with was one he mostly loathed. "As author of The Satanic Verses I recognize that Muslims in manyu parts of the world anre genuinely distressed by the publication of my novel. I profoundly regret the distress that publication has occasioned to the sincere followers of Islam. Living as we do in a world of many faiths this experience has served to remind us that we must all be concious of the sensibilites of others." His private, self-justifying voice argued that he was apologizing for the distress--and after all he had never wanted to cause distress--but he was not apologizing for the book itself. And yes, we should be conscious of others' sensibilities, but that did not mean we should surrended to them. That was his combative, unstated subtext. But he knew that for the text to be effective it had to be read as a straightforward apology. The thought made him feel physically ill.
It was a useless gesture. It was rejected, then half-accepted, then rejected again, both by British Muslims and by the Iranian leadership. The strong position would have been to refuse to negotiate with intolerance. He had taken the weak position and was therefore treated as a weakling.
Obama, too, has taken the weak position, and will therefore be treated as the weakling he is (even if he did, as he constantly reminds us, kill Osama; might that be the real reason he green-lighted the killing--so he could rest--and harp on--that one laurel?).

NYT Tells Readers Don't Worry, Morsi's MuBros' Believe in "Democracy, Essentially"

Smoke and mirrors, my friends; smoke and mirrors:
Q: I want President Morsi to know that millions of Americans were supportive of Egypt’s desire for some form of democracy. Perhaps we were not clear about what that means. My question is: Does Egyptian democracy include Shariah law? I ask this question because Shariah law is about religion and morality. How can that be a democracy? He also states that Egyptian democracy will be for all people. If it is an Islamic state and is under Shariah law, how is that possible?Madeline | Florida

A:Thank you for articulating a frequent question. I think the honest answer is that there is a robust debate going on right now in Egypt and across the Arab world over how to apply the teachings of Islam in a democratic context, in the Arab Spring.
It is worth noting that Egypt’s Constitution, like many in the region, has long contained an article stating that its civil laws derive from the principles of Islamic law. So that is old news here.

There are some ultraconservatives — under the umbrella term Salafis — who say they want to change that to make the law conform more directly with literal, even medieval Islamic law, although the details are hazy. But Mr. Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood prefer to keep it as it is. When I have asked Brotherhood leaders about how to apply Islamic law, they say that they believe the first principle is “shura,” or consultation, which they interpret to mean representative government or the consent of the governed.
They say that the question of how to apply Islamic law should be up to the citizens, through their elected officials. Democracy, essentially.

But the same Brotherhood leaders also sometimes say that they believe the people who craft Egypt’s public policy should have expertise in a practical field — economics, or transportation, for example — but also in Islamic law. And Mr. Morsi says he will be a president for all Egyptians while also apparently sticking to the view that under Islamic law the president of the state should be a Muslim.
There is either democracy--equality before the law, rule of law, human rights under the law (which is man-made, and does not emanate from a remote sky god), etc.--or there is no democracy. There is no such thing as "democracy, essentially." "Democracy, essentially" is not democracy as we in the West understand and practise it. "Democracy, essentially" is sharia, plain and simple.

Bernie Farber Et Al: Let's Welcome the Roma 'Cuz They've Been "Stereotyped" and Were Victims of the Nazis--Like the Jews

Bernie Farber and two others invite you to embrace the Roma (who were victims of the Nazis, same as the Jews), and get really angry at Ezra Levant, who had the temerity to question whether that's enough to justify their entry into Canada via our notoriously gameable refugee system. Bernie and Co. write:
The Roma are a small community in Canada, numbering roughly 80,000. Some families have been living here since the early 20th century. These families, which still speak the native Romani language and share a culture dating back to the eastern and central Europe of the 16th century, are now into fifth and sixth generations. Many more Roma came to Canada during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956; and numerous others have arrived in the last two decades to escape vicious and violent attacks from neo-Nazi groups in Hungary and the Czech Republic.
There will always be those who claim the Roma engage in lawlessness and crime. And in Europe, statistics do demonstrate a significant increase in theft by those living in Roma encampments. These numbers have been used by French authorities to justify large scale deportations of Roma.
Yet to ascribe such negative characteristics to an entire people is grossly unfair. Jewish history is replete with Jews described as thieves, beggars and cheats. Many Jews trying to come to North America from Europe in the early 20th century were denied entry as a result. Poverty and discrimination may beget lawlessness. But targeting an entire identifiable group for the actions of some is not the answer.
In the late 1990s, a group of Roma refugees arrived in Canada and were temporarily housed in a downtown motel. In short order, members of the neo-Nazi Heritage Front demonstrated in front of the hotel with hateful pickets and the straight-arm Nazi salute, terrorizing the new arrivals. Police acted, and anti-hate charges were laid. It took almost a decade, but the demonstrators eventually were convicted.
I don't know how much Farber et al have read about the Roma--beyond a cursory scan of Wikipedia, I mean. Having read several books on the subject, I know that their "lawlessness" is not a function of "poverty and discrimination." It is, sad to say, woven into their culture--even if they were Nazis' victims like the Jews. Hence this:
Nine more people are facing criminal charges related to the largest human trafficking ring in Canadian history.
RCMP laid the charges under Project OPAPA, which brought down an extended Roma family who recruited mostly men from their native Hungary to work for the family’s construction businesses. Once in Canada, they were treated like slaves.
RCMP Constable Lepa Jankovic said the charges are related to an alleged mail theft ring that was one part of the extended family’s criminal organization.
It’s alleged the group would steal checks from mailboxes across London, Halton, Waterloo and the Toronto area totaling loses in the “millions of dollars,” she said.
It’s believed the mail theft end of the organization picked up steam after investigators busted the human trafficking ring.
Most of the thefts took place between March 2010 and July of this year, Jankovic said.
On Thursday RCMP and CBSA arrested Zoltan Horvath, 21, in Hamilton and charged him with being part of a criminal organization.
Similar arrest warrants have been issued for Zsolt Szolnoki, 41, Zsolt Pataki, 36, Maria Kolompar, 34, Gyozo Kolompar, 20, Zoltan Horvath, 43, David Zsolnoki, 36, Szandra Zsolnoki, 21 and Jeno Bogdan, 21. They are believed to be living outside of Canada, according to an RCMP news release.
That's a whole lot of Zsolts, Zoltans, and Zsolnokis, who, had we not been such bleeding hearts, might be plying their trade back in Hungary or wherever.

The thing I would ask Messers Farber et al: if Roma are being "terrorized" by "neo-Nazis" in Canada, same as back home, why come here at all?

Update: Bamboleo!

Update: The Beeb did an expose last year revealing lucrative Roma criminiality--involving very young children--in the U.K. It ain't a pretty picture.

Bangash's Credo: Free Speech For Me Not For Thee

Zafar Bangash and his Zion-hating rent-a-mob crowd loathe, despise, abominate and spit on the sort of free expression that allows for crappy YouTube videos mocking the prophet. But Zafar's the sort of sharia devotee who revels in the free speech the West affords him and his ilk. Here, for instance, is the cover of the Septemember issue of Crescent, Zafar's Khomeinist publication:

I'd have put a photo of Iran's Grandiose Ayatollah on the cover, but, hey, that's just me.

Celebrate Mercy, Organization Devoted to Blowing Smoke Re Islam's Founder, Collects Thousands of Condolence Letters for Family of Raped, Murdered Libyan Ambassador

Most laudable. However, since this outfit "aims to instill a deeper understanding of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam, among Muslims and friends of other faiths," and is thus in serious denial about the more problematic aspects of the message of Islam's founder, forgive moi for seeing it as more about proselytizing than about consolation. (I just heard about this effort on Ceeb radio, which, as you can imagine, is thrilled to pieces by it.)

Jihadis and Liars and Libyan Sodomizers and Things That Go Bump in the Mideast

A clueless, tone deaf Obama characterizes recent events in the Middle East (including the rape and murder of his unprotected Ambassador and three other American diplomatic personnel in Libya, and the metastasized "protest" re a silly, two-bit YouTube video) as mere "bumps in the road." Romney, thankfully, calls him on it.

Lizze Get Your Tomahawk

Since Elizabeth Warren, who's running to become a senator from Massachusetts, is still being assailed by accusations that she claimed to have Native Americans in her family tree for purposes of academic and political advancement, I suggest she disarm her critics with a rendition of the appropriate (albeit politically incorrect) number from Annie Get Your Gun.

Omar Khadr re His Jihadi Daddy, An Osama Chum: “I Think He Was Just a Normal Dad...He Was Just Trying to Raise His Children the Right Way"

Such a "touching" defence of the indefensible, no? No wonder so many vocal Omar fans want their lad to come "home." (When reading this Maclean's exclusive, you might want to take Kathy Shaidle's advice and read it upside down--that is, start with the comments, which, on the whole, are far more illuminating than the article.)

Papa Khadr: Just a "normal" dad trying to do his best for his "normal" mishpacha

Barry O Killed the Radio Star

R.I.P Radio Liberty, an idea which has fallen by the wayside in this post-modern, post-American and yes, post-liberty world.

"Moptop" Morsi Sings: Please Appease Me

Last night I spoke to B. Obama.
I told him I don't want no drama.
C'mom, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon,
Please appease me, oh yeah,
Like Neville II.

You got the supine thing down pat now.
'S what comes of being such a prat now.
C'mom, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon,
Please appease me, oh yeah,
Like Neville II.

I am in the driver's seat now
And so I can go repeat: now heed me.
You fell for that "Arab Spring."
It conned you quick as anything.
You fool, oh yeah, now dhimmitude's the rule.

Last night I told some tit-for-tat lies:
"You scratch my back; I'll control my guys."
C'mom, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon,
Please appease me, oh yeah,
Like Neville II.
Whoah, yeah, like Neville II,
Whoah, yeah, like Neville II.

Beware of Mad, Mulling Mullahs

They're said to be "mulling" over the the idea of attacking Israel before it has a chance to attack them. Hard to know, though, whether this mulliing is actually occurring, or if it merely amounts to more mulish mullah nuke-rattling.

"The West must learn to see Islamist violence as intentional, not spontaneous"

Smartest thing I've read today. Tell it to the White House, though, which thinks nothing of throwing free speech under the bus/kowtowing in a prettily dhimmily way to sharia blasphemy regulations in an effort to quell the jihad/intifadas that are busting out all over the Arab and parts of the Muslim world.

And you want to re-elect this supine doofus, Americans? Fool you twice, shame on you.

Old Black Eyes ( A-jad) Sings "New York, New York"!

Start slamming the Jews.
They're losin' today.
I'll spread a brand new calumny in
New York, New York.

These Khomeinist views
Are far from cliche.
You'd better listen up to me,
New York, New York.

I want my Mahdi,
The old Twelvers' imam to return.
And so I'll nuke all the Jews--
They're gonna burn.

My genocide news
I'll try to convey.
First we'll melt Tel Aviv and then
We'll torch New York.

You cannot kill me there.
Can't get me anywhere.
So hear me spew,
New York, "Jew" York.

An Expensive University Textbook About Art that Has No Pictures?

The Calgary Herald claims that it's about the perennial problem of pricey textbooks. Not so. It's about the perennial problem of the idiocy of some elements/aspects of post-secondary education.

An art history textbook sans art? That makes about as much sense as, say, a Yale University Press book about the Danish Motoons controversy sans the 'toons.

USA Today Baffled Because "Arab Spring Reforms" Have Not Translated Into Rights for Egypt's Women

Er, the publication is aware of the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood, an outfit created to perpetuate and spread sharia "rights," is in charge there, no?

Bangash Hits the Big Time--Coverage in the Toronto Star

The dogged local Khomeinist has finally hit on the formula for getting the Toronto Star to pay attention to him--drop the "free, free Palestine" stuff and rant about "insults" to Islam:
Zafar Bangash stepped off his makeshift stage across the street from the U.S. consulate Saturday to hugs and kisses from his Muslim brothers.
Bangash, director of the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought in Toronto, led a crowd of roughly 1,500 in chants against the anti-Islamic film, Innocence of Muslims
“The Muslims, united, will never be defeated,” yelled Bangash, the crowd following suit. “Shame, shame, U.S.A. Shame, shame, U.S.A.”
Bangash, the organizer of the protest, told the crowd to rise up against the inaction of the U.S., and the Canadian government as well.
“Harper, Harper, shame on you,” said Bangash, the crowd of men, women and children roaring his words back at him.
“Islamophobia has now become the official policy of the U.S. and Canadian governments,” Bangash said once offstage. He said that neither government has taken enough action against the film.
“Not a single Canadian politician has uttered a single word about this scandalous and filthy movie,” said Bangash, adding the statement issued by the U.S. government is not enough...
Dear Zaffy: Shall we bring back drawing and quartering, or would a simple beheading suffice?

Update: What the heck is the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought? Wikipedia describes it as
an international intellectual centre of the global Islamic movement.[1] It consists of individual activists, journalists and academics from around the world who share a common commitment to developing the social and political ideology of Islam, and promoting their ideas and analysis as an alternative worldview to that of the western civilization. ICIT was established in 1998 to continue the work initiated by the late Dr. Kalim Siddiqui (1931–1996), who was Director of the Muslim Institute in London. Following his death, Dr Kalim Siddiqui's closest associates advanced the work of ICIT. These include Zafar Bangash of Toronto, Canada, who is now Director of the ICIT, Imam Muhammad al-Asi and Imam Abdul Alim Musa of Washington DC, and Iqbal Siddiqui of London, now the editor of the Crescent International newsmagazine.
The ICIT also has affiliates all over the world. These include organizations and contacts in Canada, the US, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, and numerous other countries. Many of these are contacts who have been working with the Muslim Institute for over two decades. ICIT activities can be divided into the following six categories: Media; Internet; Publishing; Conferences and Seminars; Teaching and Lecture Courses; and Research.
In a nutshell: it's a beachhead of zany Khomeinism here in the West--and Zafar is its leader.

Gotta love that "multiculturalism," eh?
