Turn the money-hoovering "human rights" mausoleum into a water park? What a fabulous idea!

After repeated construction delays, cost overruns and funding roadblocks, the people in charge of building the Canadian Museum for Human Rights have finally thrown in the towel ... the beach towel.

The Winnipeg Sun has learned the federal government has reached a tentative deal to sell the museum to a group of private investors who plan to convert the still-unfinished edifice into a world-class water park. The exact terms of the deal are unknown, but it is believed the Winnipeg investors will pay only a fraction of the building’s $357.5-million price tag.

“Enough’s enough. Canadian taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for the spiralling cost of this museum,” said a source at the Department of Canadian Heritage shortly after Thursday’s federal budget. “Never mind the $100 million we’ve already spent on construction ... we were also committed to spending $21 million a year in operating costs.”

Although the deal has not yet been finalized, the water park consortium has already hired a team of consultants to adapt architect Antoine Predock’s original plans to accommodate an assortment of slides, wave pools and splash pads. A source close to the investors says the exterior design of the building should be just as impressive as Predock’s original vision.

“It’ll be awesome ... visitors to The Forks will still see this huge glass monument to mankind’s ingenuity,” the source revealed. “The only difference will be the addition of several hundred metres of PVC pipes curling around the exterior.”...

The Holocaust Log Luge; the Holodomor Waterfall; the Liquid Zone of Mass Atrocities--it's all coming together without too much effort at all...

Canadian Textile Museum Displays a Tad Too Much Dhimmified Reverence for Muslim Prayer Rugs

The Textile Museum of Canada is currently running an exhibition, Portable Mosques: The Sacred Space of the Prayer Rug.

Drawing on the TMC’s significant collection of carpets and rugs, Portable Mosques: The Sacred Space of the Prayer Rug features 30 prayer rugs created during the early 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Textile Museum of Canada is one of Toronto’s most engaging visual arts organizations. 

Also one of the most "diverse" and "inclusive,"  no doubt. But read the following "Exhibition Overview" and ask yourself whether this is an exhibit of rugs or an opportunity to engage in a bit of da'wa:

An important element of worship within the Islamic world, the prayer rug is a powerful expression of worldview, integrating local aesthetics and materials as well as textile practices shared across centuries and generations of weavers.

As part of daily life within Muslim cultures, the prayer rug is used several times a day, offering a clean and sanctified space in both material and representational form. Each has intricate and powerful symbolic meaning, enacting a transcendent space isolated from the profane world in which to concentrate in prayer.

Our Federal "Human Rights" Commission Comes Clean Re the Real Purpose of Its Latest Annual Report--Self-Perpetuation

It isn't often that the truth shines through in prose written in turgid bureaucratese, but I think this bit on the CHRC site re its hot-off-the-press 2011 Annual Report is actually as clear as can be:

The Annual Report tells stories of individuals who have successfully used the Canadian Human Rights Act to bring about meaningful change, and illustrates how the Act continues to play an important role in the daily lives of Canadians.   

I doubt it. Most Canadians live their daily lives without giving the Act and its guardians so much as a second thought. It's not even on their personal GPS. I venture to say that, were the CHRC to disappear tomorrow, thereby sparing us its officious intrusions and saving us a ton of dough, we and our "stories" would keep calm and carry on very well without it.

George Galloway, Panderer Extraordinaire

Melanie Phillips writes re the decadent media's glee over a  reptilian Zion-loather's "stunning" victory:

Most commentators have dismissed this victory as a shocking one-off with no further significance than an upset by an entertaining maverick.

Not so. For with Galloway’s election, religious extremism has become for the first time a potential game-changer in British politics.

The point being so resolutely ignored is that Galloway ran on an Islamist religious ticket. It wasn’t simply that he was pandering to Islamist foreign policy obsessions. He made explicit references to Islam throughout his campaign.

‘All praise to Allah!’ he saluted his victory through a loud-hailer — having previously told a public meeting that if people didn’t vote for him, Allah would want to know why.

Indeed, declaring in one address that ‘God knows who is a Muslim’, he implied that he was even more of a true adherent of that faith than Labour’s Muslim candidate who, he suggested without a shred of evidence, drank alcohol whereas he himself had never touched the stuff.  

Pinch yourself — a British politician using the inflammatory rhetoric and professions of Islamic piety more commonly heard in Iran or Saudi Arabia.  

Just as such religious hucksterism inflames millions of followers in the Islamic world, so certain unscrupulous British politicians have now realised they too can tap into the same well of irrational hatred to deliver them electoral victory.

So much for "Britons never, never, never shall be slaves."
