Winning "Arab Idol" Next Best Thing to Defeating Jooos/Other Infidels?

A Gazan has won the Arab Idol singing contest, and Palestinians are jubilant:
The talent show has been broadcast on MBC Television since March.
While [singer Mohammed] Assaf was born in Libya to Palestinian parents, it is the first time a singer living in Gaza has won the prestigious event.
"Mohammed Assaf didn't free Palestine," wrote one blogger on Twitter. "But he brought joy to people who didn't smile for the past 66 years of occupation."
That's not true. They were pretty joyful and there were smiles galore upon learning about 9/11.

Update: While "Palestine" was all the rage at this singing contest, "Kurdistan" didn't have the same sort of following:
Parwaz Hussein, a semi-finalist from Iraq's Kurdistan region, drew objections from some of the judges after listing her country as "Kurdistan". She began the competition singing Kurdish songs though she later switched to Arabic.
Numbering more than 25 million, the non-Arab Kurds are often described as the world's largest ethnic group without a state.
As crowds waving Palestinian flags rushed to lift Saturday's winner on to their shoulders, Hussein danced on to stage with the Kurdish flag. Security guards quickly tore it away from her.

Has the makings of a sequel to the Adam Sandler movie, no?--The Palestinian Wedding Singer.

You should hear his "Hava Nagiilla." It kills!
