Here's where the sheer idiocy part comes in:
Today more than 800,000 refugees in Gaza receive food aid, UN officials said. Refugees make up the majority of the 1.7 million population in the tiny Mediterranean coastal strip, where poverty has deepened since Israel and Egypt blockaded the territory following a takeover by the Islamic militant Hamas in 2007.Refugees? In Gaza? Since Gaza is entirely in the hands of Palestinians, how can there still be Palestinian "refugees" there?
Any place else these folks wouldn't be called "refugees." They'd be called--now, what was that word on tip of my tongue again?; oh, yeah--citizens.
Why, it's almost as if the UN is perpetuating Palestinian refugee-ness until such time as there's a Palestine (formerly known as Israel) to which they can "return" (said tongue-in-cheekily, of course, since that's exactly what the UN is doing.)
