Supposedly this is a "grassroots" initiative aimed at making Toronto "a better place" via small urban "interventions." It's hard to see, though, how any of the following will fulfill that goal:
Urban “interventions” across the GTA
City Love: Participants are invited to inscribe a word or message on 100 clay hearts, which will be glazed, fired and tied to a rail bridge near Inspirations Studio. After July 1, the public will be encouraged to relocate the hearts around the city. 2480 Dundas West, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Silent Disco Squad: Participants are encouraged to help make music tracks ahead of time, and download a crowd-sourced dance mix that will be played through their headphones to create a quiet, communal dance party. Fred Hamilton Park, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At Home In The Park: Unplug from electronic distractions and connect with neighbours in one of the “rooms” in a park on the city’s east side. Rooster Ukulele Ensemble will perform in the music “room” at the end of the day. Withrow Park, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Let’s Get Fysical, Flemingdon: The Flemingdon Urban Fair Committee is trying to make fitness and physical activity more accessible. Exercise sessions will include zumba, yoga aerobics and Bollywood dancing, and will begin with a short demonstration. Don Mills/Gateway Blvd., 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
To The Streets: In an effort to re-create the disappearing arcade experience, the Hand-Eye Society will be projecting video games onto the sides of buildings at several locations in the city and encouraging passersby to play. 35 Bellevue Ave. and 180 Spadina Ave., from roughly 9 p.m. to midnight.
Sorry, but all of that sounds pretty silly to me no matter how good it makes participants feel.
