Odd Phrasing Alert--"Death Plunge: ISIS Throws Gay Men Off Buildings Under Guise of Sharia Law"

Whaddya mean "under the guise of sharia law"? There's no "guise" about it, guys. The gay guys were hurled from buildings because of sharia law--because under the terms of this law being gay is a crime for which the punishment is death.

That's pure, unadulterated sharia law--guiseless and undisguished.

The "rationale" for the enslavement:

“This is how they attract young men — we have women waiting for you, virgins that you can marry,” [UN envoy on sexual violence] Ms Bangura said. “The foreign fighters are the backbone of the fighting.” 

A recent UN report said close to 25,000 foreign fighters from more than 100 countries were ­involved in conflicts worldwide, with the largest influx by far into Syria and Iraq.

The "foreign fighters" motto seems to be: "Think globally, act locally, party like it's 1215":

The envoy likened the jihadists’ abuse of women and girls to “medieval” practices and said ­Islamic State wants “to build a ­society that reflects the 13th century”.

Where's the outrage? Ms. Bangura just went to Europe, to try to drum some up: 

Ms Bangura returned from a tour of European capitals to discuss the plight of women and girls under Islamic State and hopes to address the Security Council soon to discuss what can be done.

Where's the UN? As per usual, it's springing into action with all the haste of a snail:

A UN technical team is due to travel to the region soon to work out details of the plan to help victims of sexual violence.

Swell. I'm sure that must come as immense comfort to the chicks who are being sold, enslaved and raped.

Daniel Pipes Cries Uncle, Stops Using the Words "Terrorism"/"Terrorists" In His Writing

Here's his thinking:

If the BBC and the U.N. cannot define this little word, neither can anyone else, including politicians, the police and specialists. One study, titled “Political Terrorism,” lists 109 definitions for terrorism and debates over its meaning. The concept just involves too many moving parts — personnel, weapons, tactics, networks, and goals.  

An American security specialist, David Tucker, urges those who would define it instead to simply “abandon hope,” like those entering hell. His Israeli counterpart, Boaz Ganor, jokes that “the struggle to define terrorism is sometimes as hard as the struggle against terrorism itself.” 

Does it make sense to soldier on, fighting a semantic battle that will never be won? Why argue for a word that everyone agrees is confusing and some find loaded? 

Therefore, I too have stopped using “terrorism” and “terrorist” (“counterterrorism,” however, is a tougher word to drop). It’s not worth the fight. Better to use words like “violent,” “murderous,” “Islamist,” and “jihadi,” words that do not generate a definitional uproar. Better not to have to waste time arguing that the U.S. or Israeli governments are not terrorist.

Faint hope. If Pipes thinks that eschewing these two "t" words will ameliorate and/or clarify things--including the way leftists and Islamists think of the U.S. and Israel--he's dreaming in Technicolor, VistaVision and Dolby Stereo.

Victor Davis Hanson Nails Why the Leftist Thought Police Are Winning

...The wish to silence, censor, and impede thought is just as strong a human emotion as the desire for free expression — especially when censorship is cloaked in rhetoric about fairness, equality, justice, and all the other euphemisms for not allowing the free promulgation of ideas. 

George Orwell devoted his later years to warning us that while the fascist method of destroying free expression was easily identified (albeit only with difficulty combatted), the leftwing totalitarian impulse to squelch unpopular speech was far harder to resist — couched as it was in sloganeering about the “people” and “social justice.” It is easy to object to the speech codes of a self-interested, corrupt dictator in sunglasses and epaulettes, but difficult to fight censorship that allegedly helps the poor, minorities, and the helpless.

Exactly. A reading of history as well as my own years of experience in the free speech trenches has taught me that totalitarianism that claims to be on the side of the angels and that dons the sheep's clothing of "human rights"/"social justice"/"tikkun olam" is easy to fight but exceedingly difficult to vanquish.

Add to that the fact that, as the poet wrote, "Human kind cannot bear very much reality" (hence the backlash against those, like Pamela Geller, who demand that we "get real" re the scriptural provenance of the jihad), and it is clear that we have our work cut out for us.

Talk About an Incompatibilty Problem: This Imam Says "There Are Actually People Who Go Out and Marry a Jinn"

A jinn. As in a non-human spirit creature that can assume the shape of animals or humans.

If you really believe you've married a jinn, I would suggest that you're either extremely gullible or off your nut.

Maybe even both.

That's not what the imam in this video believes, though. He is fully onside with the idea that marriage to a jinn bride, while not advisable, is possible, and is not an indication of mental illness on the groom's part.

What a load of codswallop! In fact, having an incomplete strategy is his complete strategy. With only 18 months left in his term, he's determined to run out the clock through the use of such feckless endeavors as using airplanes to shoot at stuff and "training" (ha!) the Iraqi army.
