To Hector and Rage or Not to Hector and Rage?

Chinese mothers a lesson to us all? Maybe not.

With my sons I always been the sort to tell them "Get out of here, just don`t light any thing on fire and come back with the same number of eyes, fingers and toes that you left with". Their doing very well today. And they know how to have fun.

I have just the one kid--a son--and, like you, I've never been into micromanaging. However, he does need us to, well, nag him to get everything done (which, at the moment, includes learning his Bar Mitzvah portion). If we don't, he's apt to spend far too much time on the computer playing Roblox and listening to thumpa-thumpa dance music on youtube. Also, he's just discovered girls--big time. So I'm not worried about his ability to have fun. I'm kind of worried about his ability to defer the fun until he gets his work done.

Rather a challenge for Mum and Dad, and we haven't even yet hit the teens.

The teen years! Wow do you ever have some fun times coming. Just remember as well justified you may think it is to strangle him, it is frowned upon by polite society.

Thanks. I'll try to keep that in mind. (Could never strangle him. He's far too cute.)
