Things must have seemed ever so much clearer to Washington when Abbas was on his own and could therefore be proffered as a "peace partner." Now that he and unabashed jihadi outfit Hamas are singing in unison--and Hamas has condemned the killing of fellow jihadi bin Laden (calling it "a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood")--that's going to be a much tougher (say, impossible?) sell.
Where has all the clarity gone? Those who never for a second bought Abbas as a sincere peace partner had it all along.
