The Globe and Mail devotes a two-page spread to "The Oprah Effect". Apparently, said effect plays out in the main by enriching Oprah's constellation of acolytes (Rachael Ray, Dr.Phil, Oprah-BFF Gayle Whassername, etc.). As well, writes G&M TV scribbler John Doyle, Oprah has used "the templates of television to make the viewer a better person and the world a better place."
Gee, and here I thought the Oprah Effect was to drench the airwaves in syrupy uplift, narcissistic preening and Barack! Barack! Barack!
Shows how little I know.
