Something Fishy About CAIR's 'Red Herring'

The CSM asks: Can Rick Perry retain his good ties with Muslims as a GOP candidate?

Good question. Frankly, I'm not too worried about Perry's close ties with Ismaili Muslims and their head honcho, the Aga Khan; Ismailis are Westernized Muslims who are sort of the Reform Jews of the Muslim world and who are unlikely to take up the cause of jihad/sharia. What concerns me is how Islamists are twisting--and capitalizing on--GOP trepidation re Islamism:
...Mustafaa Carroll, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Houston, calls the candidates’ recent questioning of Muslims and Islam a “chilling” trend designed to galvanize support among the conservative base of the Republican Party.
“I think what is happening is they’re using this anti-sharia law stuff as a red herring to get everybody fired up,” Mr. Carroll says. “In order to show how patriotic you are, [you have to demonstrate] how negative you can be about Muslims.
Nuh uh, Mustafaa. That ain't no "red herring." That's the real deal. The heart of the matter. The big enchilada. The long and the short of it. The whole shebang/ball of wax.

Okay, I'll stop now.
