Barring our decision to "revert"--which, for me at least is unlikely in the extreme--you and I will probably never get to visit Mecca; that and Islam's second holiest city, both in Saudi Arabia, are out of bounds for us infidels (lest we defile it will our kafir cooties). But no worries. An article in this week's New Yorker--a special travel issue--will make you feel as if you're right there in the flesh with the Haj-celebrating author (who, oddly enough, never mentions that it's out of bounds for us non-believers).
