Serial Plagiarist Chris Spence Issues a Mea Culpa, Takes Steps to Rehabilitate Himself

TDSB chief Chris Spence has apologized profusely for stealing the words of others and misrepresenting them as him own. (The plagiarism exposed yesterday turns out not to have been a one time occurrence.) "I am not a student anymore," says Spence, who holds a PhD from OISE.  "I am an adult and an educator. I should know better. And I must set a clear example for the nearly 250,000 students at the TDSB."

Indeed. But will the man who presides over a system that has a policy of zero tolerance for student plagiarism set a clear example by resigning?

Don't be silly. Spence intends to remedy the situation by--get this--enrolling in an Ethics and Law course offered for journalism students at Ryerson U.

Ethics? In journalism? Yeah, that's sure to set him on the straight and narrow.

Don't Toronto kids--and taxpayers, who, after all, fund the system and pay Mr., er, sorry, Dr. Spence's big fat paycheck--deserve better than that?

Update: It would be interesting to read Spence's PhD thesis and see how much, if any, of it was the product of plagiarism.
