Ottawa has been selected the host city for the 2016 One Young World Conference.
In two years, more than 1,000 international leaders, young and old, will come to the city to make lasting connections with the goal of creating positive change.
Glenn Duncan organized Ottawa’s bid and toured the deciding committee last month through the capital.
“You can probably see the smile on my face,” said Duncan at Monday morning’s early announcement live-streamed in from London, England. “It’s a great day for Ottawa.
“Our time is now.”
Ottawa beat out Hong Kong, Bangkok, Thailand and Kobe, Japan to host the One Young World summit in 2016.
Mayor Jim Watson and others were at a party before 7 a.m. Monday, awaiting the decision by the UK-based not-for-profit that brings together the brightest young people from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change.Swell. Just...swell.
