Jonathan Kay, who "left" the National Post without really leaving, thinks the fact that we're being terrorized by "amateurish" "lone wolf" jihadis (like the guy who killed Canadian soldier standing on guard at the National War Memorial and carried a shotgun into Parliament while the Prime Minister and most federal lawmakers were on the premises) instead of by Islamist terror networks is a sign that we're--wait for it--"Winning the war on terror" (the headline of Kay's piece in today's paper version of the NatPo).
I couldn't disagree more. The "war on terror" is really a push-back against violent jihad in the service of Islamic supremacism, and with ISIS firmly installed in the Mideast and young Western warriors a-plenty heading its way while others remain in situ to wreak havoc on us as per ISIS orders (which is exactly what "amateur" jihadi Michael Zehaf-Bibeau did), not only are we not winning this war (a war we can't even accurately identify), we're moving in the opposite direction.
As for the idea that Michael Z-B and his ilk are "amateurs"--shall we ask Cpl. Nathan Cirillo's family and little boy if it matters to them that his killer was an "amateur" and not a "professional" jihadi? On second thought, let's spare them from that incredibly insensitive and idiotic question. It behooves us to remember this, though: before they hit the jackpot on 9/11/01, Mohamed Atta and Co. were "amateurs," too.
