Scanner Fatwa a Boon to Infidels

Much is being made of the Fiqh Council of North America's fatwa against airport body scanners (because they contravene Islamic modesty laws). In so doing, the council has actually done us all a great service. For if  Muslims aren't going to be screened, these machines are now useless: even from the standpoint of security theatre, there's no point making a big show of scanning granny's crannies when Muslims are being directed to the frisking line. And if airport security can't depend on their fancy gadgetry and security rituals, authorities may actually have to use their brains and come up with real, effective ways of keeping us safer.

So thanks, Fiqh Council. You da best!
