Or maybe not. Writes Jeffrey T.Kuhner in the Washington Times:
Contrary to the spin of the mainstream media, the fever that is sweeping the Middle East is not some long-suppressed desire for political liberty. These are not secular democratic revolutions."Arab spring"? Looks like the joke's on us kafirs.
Instead, they represent the fury of subjugated peoples who have been deeply embittered by decades of autocratic rule, corruption and the pro-Western policies of their leaders. Many of the demonstrators despise America and Israel. They want one-man, one-vote democracy only once - to erect a theocratic state based on Shariah law.
Update: Speaking of April fools, Thomas L. Friedman, Tahrir Square gusher, is counting on luck--yes, luck--to see Obama through the Middle East morass:
Welcome to the Middle East of 2011! You want the truth about it? You can’t handle the truth. The truth is that it’s a dangerous, violent, hope-filled and potentially hugely positive or explosive mess — fraught with moral and political ambiguities. We have to build democracy in the Middle East we’ve got, not the one we want — and this is the one we’ve got.Um, doesn't "lucky" describe Obama's entire political career? Couldn't "Lucky" be the nickname of a dude who aspired to be a "community organizer," but who kept getting kited ever upward into higher and higher positions? Me? I'm not praying for Obama's "luck". I'm praying that America will be able to recover from the fallout of having "Lucky" as Commander-in-Chief.
That’s why I am proud of my president, really worried about him, and just praying that he’s lucky.
