"Many Jewish Groups Rightly Stood Up for Free Speech"? Could've Fooled Me

Jonathan Kay says that that anti-Israel bus ad in Vancouver is definitely not hate speech. Re that, I would merely point out that not all pro-Palestinian propaganda claiming that Israel is rapacious and just too damn big is a manifestation of Zionhass (the Jew-hate of our time), but most of it is. That said, I think it's more effective to delegitimize Israel's delegitimizers than it is to insist that the ad be nixed because it's hateful, as some mainstream Jewish organizations have done. As well, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Kay gets it completely wrong when he writes
In the years after 9/11, the greatest threat to free speech in this country emerged from the human rights censors who investigated the likes of Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant for the crime of uttering or printing forceful views about militant Islam. Many Jewish groups rightly stood up for free speech, and successfully so. It is therefore ironic to see leaders from this same community seeking to impose another sort of political correctness on Canada’s marketplace of ideas. It is not only misguided, but also hypocritical.
I'm not entirely sure which Jewish groups Kay is talking about. The fact is that, during the protracted fight to get rid of Canada's state censorship provision, the notorious Section 13 of our federal "human rights" legislation, almost every notable Jewish group I can think of, including B'nai Brith, Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal and the now-defunct Canadian Jewish Congress, stood foursquare against free speech. And were you to ask them today, they would tell you that they are still in favor of silencing foes via Section 13 and its provincial/territorial equivalents, even though it should be clear to even the most short-sighted Official Jew by now that that policy has backfired--big time. So in that sense, these groups, though misguided, are being completely consistent, and therefore are not the least bit "hypocritical."
