First Jacob doesn't think that lawsuit against the Gaza flotilla is a good idea because, for one thing, his lefty friends don't like it:
My third reason is that the lawsuit is more likely to alienate public opinion than to rally it in support of Israel’s position. I have close and very well informed non-Jewish friends in Toronto who are critical of Israeli policies in the West Bank and who strongly believe that Israel is as much a sinner as being sinned against. They will see this litigation as another (albeit covert) attempt by the Israeli government to influence international opinion in its favour. I have little doubt many other Canadians will share their skepticism.I have close and very well informed non-Jewish friends in Toronto, too, Jake, and unlike your pals, they think the lawsuit's a great idea. Seems to me you're hanging out with the wrong crowd.
Second Jacob wants CJN readers to know that those who fling (the Big Lie) of "Israeli apartheid" are not, in fact, Jew-haters:
There are good reasons to be suspicious of the term “Israeli apartheid.” That it is antisemitic is not among them. Antisemitism is hatred of or bias toward Jews as Jews – it’s less about what we do, than it is about who we are. That’s what makes it so terrible. The charge that Israel is an apartheid state is a charge about Israeli policy, about what the Israeli government does, not about the Jewish people as such (or even about what Jews as a group do). Misusing the charge of antisemitism isn’t good for anybody: it mischaracterizes many critics of Israeli policy, which is bad for healthy debate, and it weakens the ability to combat true antisemitism.Sorry, Jake, Zionhass is "true antisemitism"--the "true antisemitism" of our time. To think otherwise is not only clueless, it's delusional.
