ISTANBUL – In an interfaith conference in Istanbul, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton agreed with a major global Islamic organization to pursue a new religious tolerance agreement which respects free expression of religious beliefs in order to resolve debates over religion between the West and Islamic countries.
"Together we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of religion," Clinton said, Reuters reported on Friday, July 15.
“We are pursuing a new approach based on concrete steps to fight intolerance wherever it occurs.”
On Friday, Clinton met Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the head of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), in Istanbul.
The meeting was intended to help set up new international mechanisms both protect free speech and combat religious discrimination around the world.
Since 1999, the OIC has annually sponsored a defamation of religions resolution in the UN Human Rights Council.
The OIC wanted the UN to adopt a binding international covenant against the defamation of religions...
A covenant that would in effect have decreed: "Shut your mouth, impudent kafir, and let Islam lead the way." To which the only rational retort is: "No dice, new caliphate," not "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"
