Geert Wilders: Scary, Far-Right, Islamophobic and therefore really, really bad. Saudi students arriving by the "thousands" to study at Canadian universities: evidence of our "diversity" and "inclusiveness" and therefore really, really good.

I'm not sure: exactly when did the G&M turn into something approximating Al Jazeera?

My letter:

How fitting--and how grimly ironic--that on the same day Doug Saunders calls Geert Wilders “scary” and “irrational” for wanting to retain Western freedom by putting the brakes on sharia-creep in the Netherlands, there’s a front page article about “thousands” of young Saudi Arabians coming to study at Canadian universities--on the Saudi government’s tab, of course.

I sure wish Canada had a politician who was “scary” and “irrational” enough to point out that, apart from anything else, this scholarship program is one way for the Wahhabis to spread their belief system (funding mosques and madrassahs and bringing libel suits against writers it doesn’t like--a.k.a. “lawfare”--being other methods). Alas, so far no one has mustered the wherewithal (i.e. the cojones) to do so.
