Proud and Stupid
Meet Salaam, one of the "proud" sponsors of Israel Apartheid Week. Salaam describes itself as
The Queer Muslim Community of Toronto. An organization dedicated to Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual and/or transgender, as well as those questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity, and their friends.
Salaam is proud to be sponsoring the Israeli Apartheid Week...
Yeah, we know, we know. Now, pray tell, why would a queer organization be "proud" to diss a land where gays actually have rights? Versus all those Muslim places where queers live in fear for their lives? Apparently, it's because Salaam is super-dedicated to--wait for it--
social justice, peace and human dignity through its work to bring all closer to a world that is free from injustice, including prejudice, discrimination, racism, misogyny, sexism and homophobia.
Prejudice, discrimination, racism, misogyny, sexism, homophobia, huh? Sounds an awful lot like the situation on the ground in much of Dar al Islam. How about trying to bring social justice, peace, and human dignity to that "Shangri La" before tackling non-existent Israeli "apartheid"?
