Egypt: Suleiman, opposition discuss blueprint for reform
Reality check: the only "blueprint" the opposition Ikhwan is prepared to accept is the one laid out in the Koran and expatiated by Islamo-totalitarian (suggested neologism: Islamotarian) Sayyid Qutb.

A Profile of an Israeli Lefty Useful Idiot
How could a clever man be so astoundingly, so colossally, so dangerously foolish?
The Awful Truth About Egypt
While both left and right cheer the idea of democracy in Egypt, David Warren dares to tell it like it is:
Update: Oh, look--the Ikhwan is already flexing its muscles (while Obama twiddles his thumbs).
There are two, and only two, credible sources of power in Egypt, at the national level. One is the army, and the other is the Muslim Brotherhood.Looks like that "Arab democracy" thing is likely to be a bit of an uphill struggle, no? Maybe the freedom fans can take a few pointers from Iraq, which, forcibly "freed," was supposed to be the "Light Unto the Muslim Nations." (Oddly enough, no one seems to be mentioning Iraq at all in the context of unrest in Tunisia and Egypt.)
Update: Oh, look--the Ikhwan is already flexing its muscles (while Obama twiddles his thumbs).
Alert the Human Rights Commissions!
According to a new poll, 55% of Canadians don't think Muslims are "integrating well into society."
Yikes. And here the not-integrating-well population in Canada is expected to triple by 2030.
Only one thing to do--spend lots more time and money indoctrinating Canuckis to believe the multiculti mush that every religion/culture/belief system (save the West's "lesser" Judeo-Christian tradition, of course) is the same--and as equally valuable--as every other religion/culture/belief system, and punish them if and when they don't fall for it.

Harpoon High Fives Obama's 'Jettison'
Harpoon Siddiqui is on board with Obama's quick 'n' dirty dismissal of long-time ally Mubarak:
Update: The pro-democracy rally yesterday at Queen's Park was attended bymembers of Canada's first family of jihad such noted democracy proponents as the Khadr klan. Oh, and Jack "Chillin' and Shillin' for Muslim Votes" Layton was there, too.
Update: FYI, here are Stephen Harper's "not at all surprising" remarks (which Harpoon has completely misrepresented):
Update: Further to my comment about how Obama has "created room" to shaft Israel as he's shafted Mubarak--BINGO!
...[It's not at all surprising] that Benjamin Netanyahu, Stephen Harper, Republican stalwarts in Congress and like-minded pundits would parrot the dictator’s refrain that it’s him or chaos. Him or “the Arab street,” with hordes ready to overrun civilization. Him or the Muslim Brotherhood, waiting to undo the peace treaty with Israel.Yes, he has "created room" to do to Israel what he's done to Mubarak--and aren't Harpoon and Co. tickled at the prospect?
It is, however, a pleasant surprise to see Barack Obama jettison Mubarak in a jiffy, abandoning decades-long American foreign policy.
In calling for a new transitional government with “a broad spectrum of voices,” secular and religious, Obama has created room for the United States to play a useful role in fashioning a new Egypt and perhaps a new Middle East.

Update: FYI, here are Stephen Harper's "not at all surprising" remarks (which Harpoon has completely misrepresented):
"I don't think there is any doubt from anyone who is watching this situation that transition is occurring, and will occur, in Egypt; the question is what kind of transition this will be," Harper said.Doesn't sound like much of a "parrot" to me. Instead, he sounds quite independent-minded and sensible. Much more sensible, in fact, than both Obama and Harpoon.
"What we want to be sure is (that) we lead to a future that is not simply more democratic, but a future where that democracy is guided by such values as non-violence, as the rule of law, as respect and respect for human rights — including the rights of minorities, including the rights of religious minorities."

A Vast Non-Right-Wing Non-Conspiracy (to Tell the Truth)
What sort of right-wing crank would create a biopic about JFK and the Missus that failed to genuflect to the "Camelot" mythology such that the film was axed by the channel that commissioned it prior to being aired? Why, a card-carrying Canadian Liberal non-right-wing crank, that's who.

Send in the 'Human Rights' Clowns
Rex Murphy regales us with another farcical tale from one of our "human rights" tribunals (the same case Margaret Wente detailed here). In brief: it has something to do with a Muslim chick who thought her "rights" were being violated when her boss objected to the overpowering aroma of the curry-infused lunch the chick warmed up in the company microwave. A "human rights" body sided with the chick, natch, and ordered the boss to pay up (money the boss, a small business owner--as are many "human rights" targets--could come up with only by selling her house, thereby becoming homeless); the ruling was later overturned by a real court. Murphy wraps things up thus:
How long must it be before provincial and federal political parties come out of their respective caves of cowardice and timidity and pronounce on the degradation of human rights in Canada? The public are so far ahead of the politicians on this issue that it has become a matter of wonder why the politicians continue to hold back. How long must it be? Your guess is as good as mine, Rex. I think it could well be a very long time indeed (because no one, not even a Conservative government, which should know better, has the cojones to face down the powerful "human rights" industry).
Why Is Israel Such a Party Pooper Re Arab 'Democracy'?
While many Westerners (including NDP leader Jack Layton) are positively giddy about rumblings of "democracy" in the heretofore unfree Arab world, Israel is being criticized for its failure to kvell with everyone else. Caroline Glick has this to say about Israel's apparent lack of enthusiasm:
Hate,
Hate will keep us together.
Think of the Jews whenever
Times are tough and sh*t hits the fan,
Do what you can.
Don't mess around--blame the Jews for their "plan."
Just seethe,
'Cuz Obama is clueless.
Seethe,
If the want the world Jewless.
Look in your heart and let hate
Keep us together,
Forever...
Western — and particularly American — willingness to pretend that the Muslim Brotherhood is anything other than a totalitarian movement has been greeted by disbelief and astonishment by Israelis from across the political spectrum.
It is the likelihood that the Muslim Brotherhood will rise to power, not an aversion to Arab democracy that has caused Israel to fear the popular revolt against President Hosni Mubarak's regime. If the Muslim Brotherhood were not a factor in Egypt, then Israel would probably have simply been indifferent to events there as it has been to the development of democracy in Iraq and to the popular revolt in Tunisia.Update: The Caliph and Shlemiel sing:
Israel's indifference to democratization of the Arab world has been a cause of consternation for some of its traditional supporters in conservative circles in the US and Europe. Israelis are accused of provincialism. As citizens of the only democracy in the Middle East, we are admonished for not supporting democracy among our neighbors. The fact is that Israeli indifference to democratic currents in Arab societies is not due to provincialism. Israelis are indifferent because we realize that whether under authoritarian rule or democracy, anti-Semitism is the unifying sentiment of the Arab world. Fractured along socioeconomic, tribal, religious, political, ethnic and other lines, the glue that binds Arab societies is hatred of Jews...
Hate,
Hate will keep us together.
Think of the Jews whenever
Times are tough and sh*t hits the fan,
Do what you can.
Don't mess around--blame the Jews for their "plan."
Just seethe,
'Cuz Obama is clueless.
Seethe,
If the want the world Jewless.
Look in your heart and let hate
Keep us together,
Forever...
