Have Authorities Been Playing Us Re Toronto Shooter Faisal Hussain?

Now, here's something you won't hear on the CBC or read in, say, the Toronto Star. It's a summary of what we know about a shooter who was allegedly wracked by psychosis, but who was able to cold bloodedly and accurately target infidels enjoying a balmy Sunday evening in Greektown, killing two--one a mere child--and injuring many others. Unlike every other mainstream media outlet in the land, the Toronto Sun is willing to poke holes in the "he was nuts, not jihadi" narrative (as if the two are mutually exclusive). See, for instance, this section:
Sources have also said the RCMP had spoken to Hussain about visiting pro-Islamist websites.
But Canada's Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale was quick to deny Hussain was on any federal watchlists.
"As far as we're aware at this stage based on the state of the investigation, there is no connection between that individual and national security," he told media.
One source with close ties to the policing world scoffed at Goodale's comment.
"Most people don't end up having the RCMP show up at their door to discuss their online activity," said the source, who asked not to be named.
The source said the feds, police chief and others have been "playing with words" and "deceiving the public."
"It's all political," the source said.
How refreshing to read such words in the pages of a mainstream Toronto newspaper. Too bad they will be dismissed by the feds, police chief and others, including members of the far too easily gulled public, as the ravings of a lunatic/"Islamophobe."

When It Comes to Modern Judenhass In France, the Craven French Refuse to Take Sides

Is it any wonder that more and more French Jews are hightailing out of there?:
France has a painful history of anti-Semitism, with its worst hours coming in the 1930s and during the German occupation in World War II. But in recent months, an impassioned debate has erupted over how to address what commentators are calling the "new anti-Semitism," as Jewish groups and academic researchers trace a wave of anti-Semitic acts to France;s growing Muslim population.

Nearly 40 percent of violent acts classified as racially or religiously motivated were committed against Jews in 2017, though Jews make up less than 1 percent of France's population. Anti-Semitic acts increased by 20 percent from 2016, a rise the Interior Ministry called "preoccupying."

In 2011, the French government stopped categorizing those deemed responsible for anti-Semitic acts, making it more difficult to trace the origins. But before then, Muslims had been the largest group identified as perpetrators, according to research by a leading academic. Often the spikes in violence coincided with flare-ups in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, according to researchers.

For the French government, the issue is deeply complicated, touching on the country's rawest political nerves, as well as ethnic and religious fault lines. France has Europe's biggest population of both Jews and Muslims, and Muslims face both discrimination in employment and in their treatment by the police.

French leaders fear pitting one side against the other, or even acknowledging that a Muslim-versus-Jew dynamic exists. To do so would violate a central tenet of France--that people are not categorized by race or religion, only as fellow French citizens, equal before the law.
What utter balderdash! What French leaders really fear--duh!--is the wrath of the Jew-haters.

FPM Officially Jumps the Shark (Or In This Case the Trump) With This One

In what alternate universe has "Trump stood up to Putin"?

More to the point, in what alternate universe could that be an actual perception?

Two Solitudes

The two are comprised of American Jews and Israel's Jews.

The Canadian Jewish News Targets Pro-Israel, Right Wing "Never Again Group"

Behold, the CJN's hard-hitting piece on what it claims is a dangerous "racist"/"Islamophobic" entity.

Behold, too, my comment:
In light of, and as a balance to, this article, I eagerly await the CJN's exposé of the CBC's inherent anti-Israel animus/bias.
Eagerly and, as I am well aware, in vain.

Can You Guess the Source of This Summary?

It's a rundown of Trump's recent ego 'n' ignorance-driven wrong-headedness:
To sum up: Trump disagreed with nearly all of the House and Senate on how much control he should have over Russia sanctions. He disagreed with modern economic practice when he openly welcomed a trade war with China and hiked tariffs even on friendly, free-trading nations: mercantilist nonsense whose heyday was two centuries ago. He buddied up with Kim and accepted his vague intentions prima facie amid calls for prudence; he legitimized the denials of Vladimir Putin although his government has concluded and insisted that the neo-dictator’s regime meddled and continues to try meddling in American elections.
So where do you think it's from?

TIME? The Nation? Harper's? Some other mainstream, left-of-center publication?

Nope.

It's from the very conservative Weekly Standard

Melanie Phillips: "Victim Culture Is Innately Anti-Jewish. But Victim Culture Lies At the Very Heart of Progressive Left-Wing Thinking"

So true. And yet, something that is rarely articulated, much less acknowledged.

The Authoritarian's Apprentice?

I see that, despite Trump's obvious shortcomings (to put it mildly), the pundits over at FrontPage Magazine continue to swoon over their POTUS. Thankfully, however, there are a few conservatives who would sooner barf at than swoon over Trump's embarrassing and dangerous antics. Anthony Furey, for one, is no fan of the man's Helsinki hustle; of how, for reasons known only to himself, Trump humbled himself "in the presence of Putin."

I'm with Furey on that one. The result of which is this letter to the Toronto Sun's editor:
In the reality TV show that is currently underway on the global stage, Vladimir Putin has been cast as mob boss Tony Soprano.
As for Donald Trump: he, alas, has willingly cast himself in the lesser role of Tony's flabby, deferential sidekick, Big Pussy.
And if Trump isn't careful, his political career may end up sharing the same fate as that character and "swim with the fishes."

"At What Point Do We Hold Russia and Putin Accountable?"

Great question. We know, however, that with a Putin-besotted Trump at the helm, the answer to that is an emphatic "never!"

And for the record--and until/unless more concrete evidence comes to light--I don't believe there was any collusion between Trump and Putin in '16; the Russian despot, who admitted during today's presser that he wanted Trump to win, didn't have to collude with him. All Putin had to do was mess with the U.S. election sans collusion, which appears to be exactly what happened.

To be clear: I was disgusted when Barack Obama sucked up to the likes of Iran's Grandiose Ayatollah. I am equally--if not more--disgusted by the sight of an American president abasing himself, and by extension the USA, before Putin, a revolting, irredeemable thug.

Update: High fives to those on the right, including many at Fox News, Trump's mothership, who have had the courage to speak truth to power.

Update: Then again, some on the right are so completely in the tank for Trump that they don't even know that they're drowning.

Trump's Tactic: Accentuate the Negative

Trump says he has "low expectations" re his meeting tomorrow with Putin and, whadya know?, I feel a song coming on:

Next time you wait
To "make America great"
Take a look at your fate
'Fore it's too late.

Just what makes that puffy old dude
Want to schmooze a despot who's shrewd?
Everyone knows with shrewd dude
Puffy will get screwed.

And he's got low hopes.
He's got low hopes.
He's got low/a tale of woe/soften the blow hopes.
So anytime you're thinkin'
To link in Helsinki
Just remember that dude.
Whoops, there goes another Yank gettin' screwed...

Didn't Know He Spoke Russian

This one made me chuckle:

Political Correctness in Montreal Leads to...Bedbugs?!?

Yup. Wouldn't want to exclude the great unwashed (and bug-ridden) from a great public institution, right?

Intolerance In Our Time

In our day, it's primarily a leftist phenomenon, as self-declared liberal Dave Rubin explains here:

Old fashioned progressive tolerance: "I disagree with your thinking but you have every right to express it."

Newfangled "progressive" tolerance: "You conservatives are too evil to even speak."

Don and Vlad's Execrable Adventure--In Song!

Justin Trudeau says NATO has plans to tell Donald Trump that Russia poses a threat.

Why bother, though, when Don and Vlad have a bromance made in Hades--or is it on Broadway?

Arguing for the latter, here are the two alpha males singing a golden oldie by Mr. Porter (and, how perfect!, it first appeared in his show Anything Goes):
Don: If you ever have a scare, I'll be there.

Vlad: If you ever need to flee, call for me.

Don: If you're ever so angry, and Ukraine invade; accolade!

Both: It's bromance, bromance. It's what makes us crow-mance.

Don: When others' bromance have run aground, ours'll still astound.

Vlad: La de la de la de dum dum dum...
