Whom can we thank for persuading Harpoon Siddiqui to leave India and set up shop here in Canada? According to the "human rights" champion's  facebook page, all due praise goes to a former Canadian Governor General:

While at the [India] Press Trust he met Roland Michener, then Canada's High Commissioner to India who encouraged him to immigrate to Canada.

Gee, thanks, Roland. But for your intervention way back when, we might have been spared from not have been able to benefit from peals such as this.

Nothing Palatable on THAT Menu

So nice of the National Post to give a platform to "Ambassador" Said Hamad, the Palestininians' official rep in/to Canada. Said, who's really hot for that proverbial, chimerical "two-state solution," is selflessly looking out for Israel's interests. Ending "the occupation," he writes in an op-ed piece framed as an open letter to Canada's prime minister, would actually "protect Israel." Alas, since what he really wants is to put an end to the occupation of Israel (a.k.a the Zionist entity) by sovereign Jewry, he cannot help but tip his hand:

The international consensus for achieving this peace is the realization of the two-state solution - a solution that culminates with Palestine's exercise of sovereignty over the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital. And of course, any genuine peace will include a menu of options for refugees, including the right of return.

Sorry, Mr. "Ambassador." Your "refugees" will have to "return" to some other restaurant. Might I suggest one or more of the almost three score ones belonging to the OIC where Islam is on the, ahem, menu?

Anti-jihad writer Bruce Bawer is getting a rough ride in his adopted land. He's one of the few there willing to criticize its totalitarian speech codes, which stifle free speech, especially critcism of Islam, and to shine a light on its endemic Zionhass. In a new e-book he draws a direct line between these aspects of life in modern Norway and its lost years under Hitler:

To live in Oslo in the early twenty-first century is to frequently encounter plaques reminding you that, within living memory, this city was under Nazi rule. In one building the Gestapo carried out acts of torture. In another, Resistance members hid out, maintaining radio contact with the British military. In another, Jews were discovered hiding, then carted off.

There were Norwegian Nazis – not just collaborators, but full-fledged Nazis, who avidly embraced the Nazi ideology. Hitler, after all, considered Scandinavians part of the Master Race. In more than one Norwegian bar with which I am familiar, the walls are papered with wartime copies of newspapers, the articles in which demonstrate that there were plenty of journalists who did not shrink from transmitting Nazi propaganda about America, Britain, and of course Jews.

When the war ended, these Norwegian Nazis did not dissolve into the ether – nor did the widespread enthusiasm for totalitarianism, anti-Semitism, the strong state and strict limits on free speech. A generation after the war, many of the most influential figures in Norwegian society were self-declared Maoists and Stalinists. Today, although members of the cultural elite tend to be more careful about openly declaring allegiance to Communist tyrants, being an outright Communist is still no bar to being a respected member of Norway’s cultural establishment. (Members of the Rødt, or Red, Party hold important positions in several major cultural institutions.) Write the most sickeningly anti-Semitic article this side of Der Stürmer, and you will still be welcome in the corridors of Norwegian cultural power. Call publicly for strictly enforced limits on free speech about Islam, and your peers will hail you as a hero.

To deny that there is a disturbing degree of continuity between all this and what went on in Norway during World War II is to shove one’s head in the sand.

Actually, I Think Both Bernie and Jon Get the Mormons' Posthumous Baptism Thing Wrong

In the pages of the NatPo, Bernie Farber waxes lachrymose re Mormons baptizing dead Jews (such as Anne Frank):

Throughout the ages, Jews always have been targeted for conversion. Whether it be the oxy-moronic and deceptive "Jews for Jesus," using subterfuge and artifice to convert modern Jews, or the work of Spanish Inquisitors forcing Jews to convert centuries ago, all Jews have viscerally felt this denial of our faith and traditions. The effort of posthumous conversion stings our collective Jewish soul.

While there may be those who will wonder what all the fuss is about, in Judaism there can be no greater good than honouring our dead, especially those who were murdered by the Nazis sanctifying God's name (in the Hebrew faith tradition, al Kiddush ha-shem) many with the words of the sacred Jewish prayer Shma Yisroel - Hear O Israel the Lord our God the Lord is One - as they were sent to their graves. LDS practices not only revictimize Holocaust victims, they dishonour their memory and disrespects our own holy tradition. They must stop.

As for the notion that the practice comprises an "insult" to Jews, ask yourself the following question: What is more "insulting," the traditional Christian doctrine that one's failure to embrace Christ dooms Anne Frank and all the rest of us to a perpetuity in hell, or the Mormon notion that there is hope for everyone, even after death?

In fact, they're both wrong. Bernie, as per usual, is far too overwrought on the subject; Mormons posthumously converting Jews doesn't "sting" my soul--or anything else--because to me, a non-Mormon, it's a nutty and meaningless practice since the Jews in question are dead, and therefore un-convertable. And Jonathan, as per usual, doesn't really get religion. For Jews, Mormons baptizing their dead to give them access to heaven (because only Mormons get to go there) is not much different from other Christians damning us to hell for all eternity because in neither belief system are Jews allowed to enter heaven as Jews.

Compare the UN "Human Rights" Council's Overheated Rush to Judgement When Israel Killed a Handful of Flotilla Jihadis Versus Its Tepid and Laggardly Response to Assad the Slaughterer

There's no comparison. Mere days after Israel boarded a flotilla full of Turkish jihadis intent on breaking the Gaza blockade, killing several IDF-thrashing would-be blockade runners, the UN "human rights" racket condemned Israel for using what it called "incredible violence." Whereas months and months into a Syrian tyrant's butchery, resulting in at least 7,5000 deaths, the same UN "human rights" cretins (who--no joke--had planned to give Syria a seat on their  august body last May) have finally gotten around to condemning it:

As the Syrian military tightened its deadly vise on a besieged neighborhood of the central city of Homs, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted on Thursday to condemn the government of President Bashar al-Assad for widespread violations of human rights in the crackdown on its opponents.       

"Widespread violations of human rights" in a "crackdown" on "opponents"--why, that doesn't sound nearly as bad as the "incredible violence" that took place on that Turkish boat.

The two statements--and their vastly different time frames--tell you all you need to know about this alleged, this grotesque excuse for a "human rights" organization.
