The Ayatollah's Hitlerian Pronouncement

What year is this again? Because whilst I was reading this triumphalist peroration in the Tehran Times, I could have sworn we were back in the dirty late 30s, and the Fuhrer was running off at the mouth again:

TEHRAN - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says that the university students’ seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979 was a sign of the bravery of the revolutionary younger generation of Iran.

The move brought the United States to its knees, Ayatollah Khamenei stated in an address to thousands of students in Tehran on Wednesday.

The 13th of Aban in the Iranian calendar, which corresponds to November 4, is Iran’s national day of struggle against the global arrogance (imperialist powers) and the anniversary of the university students’ seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran, which was called the Den of Spies. It was also the anniversary of the exile of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, in 1964.

U.S. seeks master and slave relations with nations

The 13th of Aban is also a symbol of the United States’ avarice, the Leader noted, adding, “The Iranian nation must keep in mind that the United States never seeks normal relations with other countries; rather it seeks some sort of master and slave relations as well as the exploitation of their resources.”

If no country confronts the United States, it will “trample upon the dignity of nations,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei stated that U.S. President Barack Obama’s remarks are “soft” on the surface but are actually like “an iron hand in a velvet glove.”

“Today, the Iranian nation is stronger than ever and the enemies are weaker and more hated than at any other time, but the enemy’s plots must never be ignored,” the Leader observed.

He also urged the Iranian youth to increase their insight into global events and called them the “sources of national pride.”
