What is McGill BDS?
The McGill BDS Action Network is the result of a growing concern among McGill students about the university’s complicity in the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the ongoing violations of Palestinian human rights. This support is given both through McGill’s investments in companies that profit from the occupation as well as ties with universities that are complicit in war crimes committed by Israel. We are a grassroots campaign led by McGill students to answer the call from Palestinian civil society in 2005 for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israel until it “meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law by:
- 1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall,
- 2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality,
- 3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.”
Vote yes to BDS on February 22 at the SSMU GA
Every semester, the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU), the undergraduate student union, holds a General Assembly where students are invited to voice their concerns, as well as present and vote on resolutions that can mandate SSMU to take certain actions. It will be at the Winter 2016 GA that we will present our motion for the SSMU to lobby the McGill Board of Governors in support of BDS campaigns. Specifically, we are calling SSMU to recommend to the Board that McGill divest entirely of all its holdings in companies that profit from the occupation, as well as implement a screening mechanism that would prevent future investments in similar companies. The motion has been submitted to SSMU, and will be posted on our website once SSMU releases the final draft.Who endorses the motion?
After reviewing the divestment motion, these McGill organizations have decided to endorse divesting from companies complicit in the occupation.

Oh, how we love to remember those balmy days of 1933. See them as clear as Kristall.
