As Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer has detailed, al-Azhar University endorses a sharia manual called Umdat al-Salik. It is quite clear on the subject of women who become captives of Muslim forces: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.” This is so the woman can then be made a concubine of her captor...

Even by jihadi standards, that ain't no way to treat a concubine.

Update: Like many hair-splitters on the Left (remember The View yenta's contention that what Roman Polanski did to a 12-year-old may not have constituted "rape-rape"?), this Village Voice scribber thinks it actually makes a big difference whether Logan was "actually raped":

Now, was Logan raped last Friday? The Times's Brian Stelter skirted the question, writing, like almost all the other media, that Logan was "sexually assaulted." Was it rape, or was the sexual component of the vicious attack considerably less than that? Were there chants of "Jew! Jew" (even though she's not Jewish) while she was being attacked? It's also possible that she was sexually assaulted in every which way but rape. Yes, almost as bad, but still not as bad as rape.

So you mean to say it's "not as bad" to be serially and savagely "sexually assaulted" by scores of men as it is to be "actually raped" by, say, only one or two brutes?

Let's ask the victim of the barbarism how she feels about that, shall we?

More on Irwin Cotler's 'Brilliant' Idea

According to this article, the Jew and the Holocaust-denying statesman go waaaay back:

Cotler has kept in contact with Abbas since first meeting him in 1977. Abbas has previously met with Jewish leaders in the United States and France and, when Cotler was in the Middle East earlier this winter, he told Abbas that he wanted him to meet with Canadian Jewish leaders. That meeting, which lasted three hours, also saw Cotler meeting with PA Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Malki in Ramallah.

A meeting that bore ripe, lucious fruit, and which should in no way be perceived as a slap in the face of the prime minister who has been Israel's most steadfast friend. No matter. As we can see by the following, Cotler's old pal Abbas is an eminently cunning and duplicitous reasonable man:

Cotler said he also spoke with Abbas and al-Malki about the potential to have a Canadian serve as referee in a revived Israeli-Palestinian group monitoring incidences of “incitement,” which are present in PA textbooks, media and mosques. Both men were open to that idea, Cotler said. While Abbas didn’t deny that incitement against Israel takes place, according to Cotler, Abbas also said, “I’m not going to play the blame game. There’s also incitement on the Israeli side.”

Righto. Even-Steven. Fault on both sides, old bean. Jews as responsible for "incitement" as the Arabs who want to see the Zionist creation become a thing of the past. And the only thing more bollixed up than that is this:

Meeting with Netanyahu a week later, Cotler said the Israeli prime minister was also receptive to the idea of reviving an incitement-monitoring group and to adding a Canadian presence. Netanyahu also indicated to Cotler his willingness to go to the PA to speak with groups of Palestinians, as Abbas previously has done with Israelis in Israel.

Actually, I think I was being a bit too hasty. This is the most bollixed up thing ever:

According to Cotler, Abbas reacted favorably to the idea of designating “one or two” Palestinians to be part of the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism, as well. He said Abbas expressed regret that he couldn’t attend the coalition’s conference last November in Ottawa, although he did send a statement. Similarly, Cotler related that Netanyahu was pleased by the adoption of the Ottawa Protocol at the conference and indicated his desire to attend the next meeting.

Appoint the Holocaust denier's minions to an anti-Antisemitism body? Sheer genius! But only if they're there as, you know, the house Antisemites. Meanwhile, according to eternal optimist Cotler, things are looking up:

Meanwhile, things are “proceeding apace” in efforts by Canada to help reform the PA’s justice sector, Cotler said, adding that he’s pleased to see this continuing under the Tory government. He said he would like to revive the idea of holding a “justice summit” for justice ministers from interested nations, a project he began after becoming justice minister in 2003 but which never saw the light of day when the Liberals were defeated in 2006.

Finally, we cut to the chase: this battiness is about Cotler's unslakable desire to reprise his past glory--to shine in the spotlight once more. Even so, maybe he's on to something:

Cotler said he emphasized to both Abbas and Netanyahu the importance of direct negotiations without preconditions on the overriding issues of security and borders when he broached the subject of the peace process. “I said [former Egyptian president Anwar] Sadat and [former Israeli prime minister Menachem] Begin made peace because of direct and sustained negotiations. There were no Europeans, no international community, no Americans.”

Nope, he's on to nada. And, fortunately, that argument is bound to be a much tougher sell now that that deal is pretty much defunct and the entire Arab world is roiling in intense turmoil. But do continue, Mr. C.:

A deal was achieved then and is possible now, Cotler believes, because each leader has the capacity to “carry the country” with a deal in hand and is “looking for his place in history.”

 Well, someone is sure looking for his place in history.

As a mad Libyan potentate unleashes his wrath on his own people, where, asks the National  Post, is the UN's "human rights" body?

Where is the United Nations Human Rights Council? As the Libyan government deploys tanks, helicopter gunships and military aircraft against its own people, many are asking this question, including United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay. In a statement issued on Tuesday Ms. Pillay — whose office is separate from the council itself — denounced the “callousness” of the government of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and stated that she expected the council to call a special session and support the call for an international inquiry.

The UNHRC’s thundering silence might be explained, of course, by the fact that it counts Libya as a member. Bahrain, China, Cuba, India, Jordan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and 10 other Islamic states occupy nearly half of its 47 seats. Convening a special session requires the endorsement of 16 countries; since the UNHRC’s African and Middle Eastern members tend to vote as a block, it is small wonder that the organization has yet to act on the violence in Libya...

As we know, the human rats (sic) organization has far bigger, i.e. far smaller, fish to gefilte.

Update: But wait--it gets better:

Libya remains on the United Nations Human Rights Council as it continues to pay mercenaries and use tanks, planes and helicopters to massacre hundreds of protesters.

The American Jewish Committee has called on the United Nations to suspend Libya from the rights panel, which has targeted Israel in virtually all of its resolutions condemning abuses of civil rights.

 Best of luck with that one, Jews.

Kookoo Moo Moo

In 2009, Libya's addlepated potentate Moo Moo Gadaffi delivered a speech at the UN that was so bonkers, so disjointed, so paranoid, and so long, that it actually made his translator faint from the sheer exertion of trying to keep up with it and put it into plain English.
Given that Moo Moo has been certifiably loco for years if not decades, how can anyone be surprised to see him behaving, well, screwily during what is shaping up to be his last stand?

Here's a usefully idiotic idea whose time should never, ever come--Canadian Jews feting their enemy, Mahmoud Abbas.

Yes, you read that correctly, Mahmoud Abbas. From the CJN via Liberal M.P. Irwin Cotler's website:

MONTREAL — Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Canada “within the next six months” specifically to have a “meaningful dialogue” with a cross-section of Canadian Jewry, The CJN has learned.

“It is confirmed,” Liberal MP Irwin Cotler disclosed in a recent interview in his Mount Royal riding office. “The raison d’etre for his visit to Canada is to meet with the Jewish community.

“The idea would be that he would meet with a representative group [of Canadian Jewry],” Cotler said. “Organizational heads, students, academics, business people, rabbinic leaders – a cross-section, for an open dialogue.”

The only Jewish community figure made aware of the visit so far is Canada-Israel Committee CEO Shimon Fogel, Cotler said.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry is not involved with arrangements for Abbas’ visit, he said...

The only "meaningful dialogue" possible with the likes of Mahmoud Abbas, who differs from Hamas only in method, not in the ultimate goal of suffocating the life out of a sovereign Jewish Israel is...well, actually, pace Cotler the fool, there is no meaningful dialogue possible with the likes of Abbas. One can only hope and pray that the current convulsions in the Arab world will prompt him (i.e. Abbas) to think twice about the wisdom of such a Quixotic--not to mention cockamamie, not to mention crazy--adventure.
