FYI

Sorry for the recent silence. My beloved retriever--he turned nine the other week--is extremely ill, and likely won't make it (it's his heart). It was all very sudden. One minute he was his normal happy, hyper-energetic self; the next he was down on the floor and unable to move. I'm too upset right now to be coherent, so I hope you'll understand if I take a little break.

He's the best dog in the world, and we're all reeling over this dreadful and unexpected turn of events.

I can imagine how you feel right now, my dog passed away last year, he was 14 year old , from old age.

Sorry for your loss, Will. You understand as only another dog owner can how hard it is to say goodbye to such a good friend and integral part of the family. I know we'll get thought it, but right now it really sucks,

I went through this with my little Maltese. It is terribly devastating when it happens. I feel for you..

Dear Scaramouche,

I, too, wish to commiserate with you and your family over the loss of your Retriever. They are such lovely, lovable, and affectionate dogs, who love you and trust you right up to the end; ours, a Golden who lived to the unusually great age of 14 (he would have turned 15 this December) passed away in October. So, like Will, I can truly imagine how you feel right now.

With deep sympathy,
Carlos

I feel for you, man. Not much else worse than losing a beloved pet. All the best.

While neither of us have ever agreed on much, on this I feel your pain. We lost our pup exactly a year ago. He was 11 years old and a day rarely goes by that I don't think of him. Eventually the pain subsides and you are left with all the good and loving memories

curveball34--Thanks for the sympathy.

BMF--We may not agree on much, but I guess we can agree that there's nothing like a dog's unconditional love and how much you miss it once it's gone. I know that eventually the pain subsides and the good memories remain. We went through the same thing with our first dog, also a retriever. I appreciate your putting politics aside and sympathizing, one dog-lover to another: that much, at least, we do have in common.
