R.I.P. Esther Williams

The former screen siren/swimming star has passed away at the age of 91. As I wrote in a comment on BCF's blog, she wasn't much of an actress, and her movies were the ultimate in Hollywood hokum and kitsch. But going by her autobiography (which I read some years ago), she was sweet though hardly a prude, dated some of Hollywood's hottest hunks (some of whom she married, including Fernando Lamas, who was abusive, and Jeff Chandler, who she said liked to dress in her clothes--a big turnoff for her, BTW), and left the spotlight without grumble or regret.

Whatever the female equivalent of "mensch" is--menschette?--that was her.
